“ Nelson Mandela said of Africa’ssupport for India: ‘you took up
our battles as if they were your own’… India has outlined a foreign anddevelopment policy that is demand-driven, free of conditions and basedon countries’ needs. … India may notbe able to compete with Africa inlong-distance running, but it will al-ways stand shoulder to shoulder withAfrica in the race for development”

Solarenergy power is as the AfDB has cal-led it the energy revolution and totake it to 75 million people in Africa,we will need billions of dollars worthof public and private investments.

I am Rajkumar, a citizen of theGoujarat State. I am a driver
at the India Mamipal Pur, N.DKarachi Tourist Company. Ihave worked in the KTC forsome years now and my role atthe African DevelopmentBank’s Annual meetings is totake delegates from the Hotel to the Conference centre. Ofcourse, I do this job with passion because I like it. My job is todrive cars. For the past two weeks, I have driven the Bank’sstaff (Communication officers) and I get on well with them. They are pleasant and this gives me a good picture ofAfricans. You want me to come to Africa with you? No(laughter). I love my country and I have a family. I will not goanywhere else. I prefer living here. Which countries do Iknow in Africa? I’ve heard of Nigeria, Benin, Kenya, Côted’Ivoire, Senegal and South Africa. I am aware that Indianslive in many African countries, which is good. Which onewould I like to visit? Sincerely, I want to stay in India, but Ilike cooperation between India and Africa. Together, they canchange the world.

T he work I do here is to ensurethat the statutory events – the
main purpose of the Annualmeetings – go on smoothly.Meetings of the Standingcommittee, Board of Governorscommittees etc… Our business isalso to do everything possible toensure the success of the eventsin general. Our work impactseverything, including knowledgeand side events as far as planning
and provision of adequate documentation. What has not workedduring the Annual meetings? Everything is under control and theMeetings have progressed at a very brisk pace. The issue is notwhether we get problems to solve, but how quickly and efficientlythey are resolved. Getting on with Indians? I must say that ourhosts have been exemplary in this regard. Honestly, it’s a goodexperience that, we come from such different cultures andbackgrounds. I honestly do not have any complaints. The peoplehave had a very good attitude and are very welcoming.

W e are very interested in what the AfDB is doing, interms of transforming agriculture in Africa for
African youth to make money out of it. At this exhibition,we are currently looking at equipment for processing andpreserving cat fish. We produce and process catfish. Weare now looking to upskill to international standards andto import technology and technical know-how to Africa.Concerning the leadership and the vision at the Bank, Ithink it is correct. They have a direction in the field ofagriculture. I believe it is being used as a tool oftransformation. With my wife, I attended three seminars.During the one on teaching agriculture at school andmaking agriculture appeal to young people, it was clearlyshown that agricultural sector can be transformative foryoung people. As a Pastor, for me, everything was good. The people are very good and friendly. The sessions wereinformative.
