RESOLUTIONS OF CONFERENCE; .
Resolved, That the first Friday in December be set apart as a
day of fasting and prayer for the prosperity of the cause of God in
our midst, and elsewhere; and thai the preachers iu charge of
circuits and stations be requested to publish this in their respective
charges, and that it be published in the minutes.
Reported by the Committee on Ediwation: ' ■'■' ;
Resolved, That the perseverance and success of Key. Reeider
Smith, as the traveling agent of the Wesleyan rSeminary at Al-
bion, are highly worthy of the commendation of this conference,
and we recommend his continuance in the traveling agency.
Resolved, That we recommend the erection of new buildings as
soon and as fast as can be done without involving new indebted-
ness or preventing or retarding the payment of existing debts.
Resolved, That we recommend to the trustees the establishment
of an Indian Department in the institution, under such arrange-
ments as may best promote the interest of the Indian youth of this
state connected with our missions; and that the travelling agent
be charged with raising means for the support of this department.
■ Resolved, That we recommend to the trustees to separate the
support of the boarding hall and all the current expenses of the
institution from the traveling agency.
Resolved, That the deficiency "! good teachers, and the cause of
education in the West, both among our common schools, and mis-
sions present a strong claim upon the public to support and finish
the Seminary at Albion.
Resolved, That an endowment of one or more Professorships in
the Albion Seminary is highly important to meet the free tuition
necessary to aid the cause of education, morality and religion, in
the West, and is worthy of the benevolence and liberality of the
Benefactors of the world.
Reported by the. Convmilteee. on the Bible Cause.

ly catholic character' and judicious management of the affairs of
the American Bible Society.
Resolved, That we most cordially respond to the invitation of
the Parent Society, to carry their proposed scheme of home bene-
volence and moral enlightenment into effect, and that our co-opera-
tive efforts shall be especially directed in the following ways : 1st.
By welcoming among us the societies' accredited agent, and facili-
tating his access to our people. 2nd. By co-operating with auxil-
iary societies; interesting ourselves in their organization, where
they do not exist, and in their revival where they exist in a languid
condition. 3rd. By seeking out cases of destitution among the peo-
ple of our charge. 4th. By preaching at least once during the
year in our respective congregations upon the Bible cause, and ta-
king up a yearly collection in such congregations as are able to
bear it; and which have not been visited by the traveling agent,
and paying over the money to the treasurer of the nearest auxiliary
society, and taking his receipt, or forwarding it to the society's
agent for the state.
From the Committee on S. Schools.
Resolved, That we will, at as early a period as practicable the
coming year, preach in our several congregations on the subject
of Sunday Schools, and the religious instruction of youth.
Resolved, That we will take up collections in all our societies
dnring the year for the Sunday School Union, which collections
shall be brought to the Conference and reported at the celebration
of the Conference Society.
[The Conference organized a Sunday School Society, and ap-
pointed W. H. Collins, David Burns and R. Reynolds', a commit-
tee to make preparations for its oelebration at the next session.]

The prospects of the Seminary at Albion, we are happy to say,
are of a promising character. '•'•• "Is-'-' '■■•»• * '>.!;'!" :
• It« pecuniary prospects are apparently.brightoning ;hhI we tnist,
that with proper economy and energy on the" part of it* Trustees,
and Conference, the day* of its rritita) dtinsier ait past.
At the last Conference, Rev. Reeder Smith received the appoint-
ment of Traveling Agent, accompanied by a resolution,, expressive
of the confidence of conference in his 5rif$grity' and' faithfulness.
As nothing has nppcarcd to the Committee in tfie course of1 the
Agent, during the past year, to impeach the correefness of the
judgment of the Conference in regard to his qualifications, they see
no reason for reconiroending that he should be superseded, or that
the farther prosecution of his plans should be suspended. We
therefore recommend that he be re-aptiointerl, that the expression
of confidence awarded him at the last Cohteienco be repeated,
that his Agency bo separated from all demands for the payment of
current exercises; and it is td be Loped, that, while on hi* part, be
will make regular and formal reports to the Trustees of the Insti-
tution, he will receive their undivided and energetic co-operation.
Your Committee wouldinvite particular., attention to that most
important part of our Provfdennal 'Mfysron as a' Conference., trie
Indian Diepartmerit. The strange success which has attended the
labors of bur beloved missionary brethren among the sons of our
Peninsular forest, almost entitles us to say, with the warriors of Is-
rael of old, "Truly, the Lord hath delivered them into our hands,"
and upon our hands they are a most responsible charge. The de-

education, and we are no more able than they, to divorce the two
assunder. At the same time, it must be remembered that the wily
emissaries of Rome are among them, gaining proselytes in great
numbers to a pompous superstition, which fascinates the imagina-
tion, without purifying the heart or elevatingthe character. Against
these machinations, nothing, but the most vital piety, united with
intelligence and cultivation on the part of our converted Indians,
can be expected to prevail, and, perhaps, a brief period must de-
cide on which side the victory shall be. Several primary mission
schools have, as far as the means have been obtained, been estab-
lished ; but, there is a large and increasing number of young per-
sons of both sexes, anxious to obtain the higher advantages of the
department of our Seminary.
Your Committee would recommend, that the department be
place under the supervision of a well selected Superintendent,
who shall exercise over them, a parental guardianship—who shall
direct their physical habits, encourage a civilizing intercourse with
surrounding associates, and give them instruction, when they can-
not unite with the regular Seminary classes. Your Committee can-
not doubt that the Christian liberalities of the public will sustain a
continued enlargement of this department, forming as it does, a
proper part of our missionary work, and entitled therefore, to the
avails of missionary contributions. Your Committee cannot con-
clude this part of the subject without adding, that the hearty thanks
of (he Conference, are due to our liberal friends at the East, most
of whom, not being members of our denomination, can have made
their donations only from motives of the most enlarged benevo-
lence. ■ •

we recommend his continuance in the Traveling Agency.

THE WESLEYAN SEMINARY AT ALBION.
The design of this institution is to confer a critical and thorough
English Education, and to give instruction in the Ancient Langua-
ges, so far as is necessary to prepare the student for admission to
college.
The following are the faculty :
Rev. Clark T. Hinman, A. M., Principal and Professor of Moral
and Intellectual Science and Belles-Letters.
Elijah W. Merrill, A. M., Professor of Ancient Languages and
Elocution.
Rev. M. Sidney Hawley, A. M., Professor of Mathematics and
Natural Science.
Miss Nancy Fitch, Preceptress and Teacher of Modern Lan-
guages, and Painting and Drawing.
Mrs. Heljen E. Furguson, Teacher of Instrumental Music.
The Board of Trustees believe they are prepared to offer to
the youth of Michigan, advantages enjoyed in no other institution
in the State.
Some of these advantages are the following:
1. We have a large Board of highly accomplished and experi-
enced teachers.
Rev. C. T. Hinman, our Principal, is a finished scholar, a gen-
tleman, and a christian. To those acquainted with the Seminary
at Newburg, Vt., in which his service as Principal and Instructor,
have been for years most highly valued, nothing need be said. The
public need only know him, and we are sure they will award him
their entire confidence.
Professor Merrill is already too favorably known to require our
commendation.
Rev. M. Sidney Hawley, a Presbyterian clergyman, has been a
successful teacher in the east and is known as a ripe scholar.
Miss Fitch, the Preceptress, and Mrs. Furguson, Teacher in In-
strumental Music, are well qualified for their respective duties.
2. Our Apparatus is new and superior in kind to that of most
similar institutions, even in New England.
3. We devote an entire hour to each recitation, which, in com-

5. A Norjnal CUss is.forrncdieach term, designed expressly to
aid teachers \h the Ifwjitldipti apd government of common schools.
6. Numerbiis Lectures oti Science, History. Education, &c, are
gratuitously delivered for the benefit of the students.
The Boarding Hall is under the direction of David Hale, Esq.,
well known to the traveling community as steward of public houses
in Geneva, Auburn -and Syracuse, and also of steamboats on the
North River. We also hazard nothing in affirming, that Mrs.
Hale, both as a lady and skillful manager, possesses superior quali-
fications as Stewardess.
The Trustees have secured the Agency of Rev. Reeder Smith,
in whose integrity and financial skill, they have implicit confidence.
He has undertaken the payment of all our liabilities and the rais-
ing of means for the ; erection of two greatly needed additional
buildings ; also for the silpport of the Indian Department. And
here, we would make grateful acknowledgment to the public for
their generous benefactions; but more especially are our thanks
due to those disinterested benefactors at tho east, whose liberality
towards our institution is beyond all praise.
Winter Term—1st quarter commences, October 7th.

Summer Term—1st quarter commences March 24th.

N. B.—The winter term opens favorably. In the Seminary and
village we can accomodate 300 students. Shall we have them .'
Brethren, the school is yours. We are only your agents. Bv a
little extra effort on the part of each member of the conference,
the number of students may be doubled the present term. Now
is the time to commence your efforts. React this in your congre-
gations ; talk about the Seminary in your pastorial visits, and ask
God in your prayers that this Altar, consecrated to Science and
Religion, may be a blessing to the youth of Michigan and an hon-
or to the church.
With our present arrangements, we have the utmost confidence
of success.
