The Executive Committee has pleasure in presenting the Annual Report alongwith Audited Accounts of the Wheat Products Promotion Society (WPPS) for the year ending on March 31, 2004.

THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING of the WPPS was last held at 7.00pm on July 29, 2003 at 22, Sunder Nagar, New Delhi - 110 003.

Elections for the Executive Committee of the WPPS were held and the

following were reelected/elected unanimously in accordance with the provisions

of the Articles of Associationfor the year of 2003 - 2004;

The Registered office of WPPS continued to be at 8381 Roshanara Road,

Delhi. However, the office work continued from office of M/s Assocom-India Pvt.

Ltd. (A-416, Ansal Chambers I, 3, Bhikaji Cama Place, New Delhi - 110 066) who

were apponited Secretaries of the WPPS for the year 2003 -04

ACTIVITIES OF THE YEAR :

The Bankers of the WPPS continue to be the State Bank of Bikaner &

Jaipur and ICICI Bank Ltd, New Delhi which is very close, hence convenient to

WPPS operational office.

The Executive Committee held 7 meetings during the year.

AIB Baking Science and Technology Course :

Market Survey of Wheat products consumption pattern in

Haryana and Punjab was entrusted to Indian Market Research Bureau ( IMRB )

,New Delhi by WPPS and Micronutrient Initiative ( MI ) , South Asia Regional

Office ,New Delhi to make a situational analysis of wheat flour consumption as

also determine the consumption pattern of Roller Flour Mill atta and maida flour

amongst various consumer categories based on economic classification .The

study was conducted to ascertain the user profile on economic criteria to decide

upon the projects which the MI could conceptualise, plan and implement for flour

fortification in various areas within the country with the active support of WPPS /

other national or state roller flour mills and chakki associations .The objective was

to priortise the action plan over a time period . In the initial phase it has been

planned to initiate the process in the two states of Haryana and Punjab . As a

sequel of the market research , the MI has decided to support the fortification plan

for Haryana and Punjab initially through RFMs . A one day sensitisation

workshop was organised on May 3, 2003 at Chandigarh with various

stakeholders from Haryana & Punjab.

The American

Institute of Baking in association with Central Food Technological Research

Institute (CFTRI) organized a 2 - day short update baking course in Baking

Science and Technology at CFTRI, Mysore on December 11-12, 2003, for

professionals in the baking industry.

The course was supported by Wheat Products Promotion Society (WPPS)

and American Soybean Association. The

course topics such as Evaluation

techniques of sweet goods and breads,

how to create standard operating

procedures for bread and sweet dough

productions; how enzymes and additives

extend product shelf life. The Valedictory

address was given by Dr. V. Prakash,

SIB Award : The Society of Indian Bakers had instituted awards to confer

recognition, and to honor distinguished persons who have made significant and

substantial contribution towards advancement and betterment of bakery

technology and craft, and towards promotion of bakery industry in the country.

the WPPS decided to sponsor SIB ANNUAL

AWARD FOR EXCELLENCY IN BAKERY

INDUSTRY for three years through financial

support from Wheat Products Promotion

Society. In this connection, SIB constituted

an AWARD COMMITTEE who finalized

AWARDS for the year 2003-2004. This

committee consisted of Mr. J. R.

Chandna, Mr. G. Selvarajan, Mr. Ravi

Krishna and Mr. Jai Prakash. For the year

2003-2004, SIB decided to honour Mr. Mr. Arun Khanna, IAS, Jt. Secy. Dept. Of Food Processing

Industry, GOI, Presenting the Gold Medal to Mr. S. C. Dubey

S.C. Dubey, renowned Bakery Expert with this prestigious AWARD (GOLD

MEDAL), through sponsorship of the WPPS.

The AWARD Ceremony was held on March 13, 2003 at Hotel Central Point,

New Delhi. Mr. Arun Kumar, IAS, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Food Processing

Industries, Goverment of India (GOI) did the honours. Dr. Sundeep Khanna, IAS,

Joint Secretary, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, GOI

deliverd presidential address. On the occastion, Mr. R.P. Jain, Chairman, WPPS, Mr.

Jai Prakash, President, SIB, Mr. L.R. 'Pat' Kandhari, Founder President, SIB/Hony.

Secretary, WPPSMr. D.V. Malhan, Hony. Secy. SIB were also present.

WPPS/MI WHEAT FORTIFICATION PROJECT

Wheat Products Promotion Society (WPPS) received a proposal from

Micronutrient Initiatives (MI) for implementation of flour fortification in the states

of Punjab and Haryana and Union Territory of Chandigarh with an objective to

reduce prevalence of nutritional anemia. During the year members of WPPS

spent several man hour to study the project and completed the spade work before

finalisation of an agreement with the MI for the project.

Mr. Dubey is a science graduate

from Agra University, and holder of a diploma in Catering Technology and Bakery

and Confectionery from the Board of Technical Education, Bombay. In 1967, Mr.

Dubey attended a training program at the American Institute of Baking (AIB),

Chicago wherefrom he graduated with distinction. In the year 1980, Mr. Dubey

received training in Biscuit Technology from the same Institute i. e AIB.

Wheat Monograph : The project could not be reinitiated during the year

due to other committed activities.

The Executive Committee places on record its deep appreciation of the

cooperation and assistance received from various Government Bodies,

promotion of wheat based foods.

The work of WPPS continues to get recognition as an All India Body

engaged in looking after the diverse interests of the wheat based industries. This

has been possible due to cohesive functioning of the Society with fullest

cooperation from all its members and the Executive Committee.
