PRESIDENT’S REPORT – Jeffrey Israel

The season 2010-11 was a most difficult and frustrating season as Melbourne suffered its wettest summer in history. As a result most of our season and matches were abandoned, due to the rain and destroyed pitches and grounds. I would like to extend my congratulations to all the players who represented the Maccabi AJAX Cricket Club last season. I would like to congratulate the efforts that the club’s captains went to last season. Dave Majtlis took over as 1st XI captain, Simon Morawetz captained the 2nd XI, and Jeremy Seigel debuted as the captain of our 3rd XI. Ian Jones once again captained the Silver Arc Sunday XI. Congratulations must also be extended to Ian and his team as they finished 3rd on the ladder after being narrowly defeated in their Semi Final. Simon Fisher once again took the difficult and challenging role as Chairman of Selectors. Simon spent hours on the phone each week ensuring that we fielded full teams. Some of the challenges that Simon faced this season included a very young and inexperienced playing list, low player numbers and the constant rain and washouts made his task even harder. I would also like to thank our dedicated coaches for their continued support and efforts. One of the initiatives trialled this season was the recruitment and employment of a new head coach, Steve Atkins. Steve brought to the club a new level of expectation, both with the physical preparation as well as the mental approach to the game. Whilst Steve’s direct approach may have been a “culture” shock to some of our players, the messages and ‘club first’ attitude that he taught and displayed were something that our players were fortunate to see. I would like to highlight and thank our most generous sponsors for their continued and on-going support and sponsorship for the last season. Without the continued support of our sponsors our club would not be able to continue to offer the excellent coaching and facilities we are all so proud of and lucky to have. Special thanks to Rod Morley and TBM for their unwavering support of our club. The Sunday side’s sponsor Alex Rouditser and the “Silver Arc” continued to support the club, also sponsoring the “Silver Arc Cup” that is the marquee game on the past players and family day. Due to the continued support and sponsorship from our “Kosher Sponsors” we were able to once again continue with our kosher policy, and also increase the “Haymishe” feeling around

the club. I would like to congratulate and thank all of our sponsors for their commitment to Jewish sport, and in particular our club. Perhaps the club’s most exciting initiative was the recruitment last season of International player Bensiyon Songavkar. In what was a world-first for a Maccabi club, our club recruited an international Jewish player to play and represent our club. Bensiyon’s recruitment generated much publicity and enthusiasm, highlighted by the fact that the story about Bensiyon was featured in the Jewish Chronicle in London. The initiative with Bensiyon was overwhelmingly successful, and we are already exploring a return by Bensiyon as well as the recruitment of other international players. I am really proud of the effort made by our committed and enthusiastic committee last season. Once again the committee worked tirelessly to ensure that the club’s off-field position was improved upon. Leon Jacobs and Benny Spicer took on the joint role as Vice President. Benny headed up the sponsorship liaison, whilst Leon headed up the Past Players Association, the golf day and the leadership group, just to name a few. Brad Abrahams continued as club secretary, whilst Jarrod Newton took on the role as Treasurer Special mention must go to Joel Beebe for his enormous efforts once again this season. Joel was Assistant Treasurer, the head of the new nets initiative, was responsible for all administrative work required to get Bensiyon here and much, much more. Joel was awarded the Kurt Defris Award this season, an award and recognition thoroughly deserved. Yossi Herbst took over as the Kosher sponsorship liaison; Darren Bloch was responsible for many on-field changes, particularly with pre-season; Simon Fisher continued with his great work with the Junior club; whilst Barry Kave, Craig Woolf and Dean Kino could always be counted on for support, feedback and assistance. The club is in a really strong financial position, mainly thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and the many, many hours of hard work and dedication that the committee particularly have put in. Fundraising continues to be a major issue faced by our club, and I feel that in the future more player-led functions and support will be vital to ensure the continued success of our club. This season also saw the debut of the Maccabi AJAX Cricket club radio show - “The Swing Doctor”. This radio program was hosted by Nathan Rothschild and Joel Beebe.

Their weekly wrap-up of the matches and interviews were both informative and humorous, and the time and effort that these guys went to was extraordinary. Mark Soffer was quite simply outstanding as a club man and leader, and special recognition must go to Tahl Lerner for his ‘club-first’ attitude and efforts that saw him win the Hans Spitz Award for being the best clubman. The club is facing a bright and challenging future. There is the excitement of the new nets that we plan to have ready for the start of the 2011-12 season, there is the further exploration of international players, and many more exciting on-field plans being discussed and investigated. I would like to thank my wife Rachel and my four great children, Maddy, Marley, Bella and Jonty for their support and understanding during my three years as club president. Being the club President is a very time-consuming role, and if not for the efforts that Rachel went to I would not have managed the time to successfully fill this challenging and rewarding role. After three fantastic and extremely rewarding years as club president, reluctantly, due to personal work commitments I have had to step down as club President. I cannot thank enough all those I have had the pleasure of working with and socialising with. I have established some terrific friendships in my role as president, which helped make the position so enjoyable for me. I feel that as club president I have been fortunate to be supported by very active and enthusiastic committees, and together we have strengthened the club both on and off field. Whilst unfortunately player numbers are currently low, the enthusiasm, efforts, dedication and commitment shown by our playing group has been nothing less than inspirational to me. I have really enjoyed my role as club President and look forward to continued involvement with the club under the new President. The next season is not far away and I encourage all players, both past and present, to start planning now for a strong season ahead.

1st XI CAPTAIN’S REPORT – David Majtlis Season 2010/2011 will be looked upon in years to come as a season that provided a base for solid learning and experience for our younger players and ultimately a year that launched future successes for the Maccabi Ajax Cricket Club. The season saw the First XI win 1, draw 4 and lose 6 of its scheduled 11 games. Of the 11 fixtured matches two of these games had no play taken place and in two of the other drawn games weather prevented the firsts from playing the second day of the matches in games where we were in strong winning positions. Weather was the real winner in season 2010/2011 and out of the scheduled fixture the Firsts was meant to play in nine 2-day matches and only one of these was completed fully. The results on field meant that the firsts finished bottom of the South Division ladder and have now been relegated to South A1 for season 2011/2012. The wet weather not only meant that a number of match days were missed it also meant that numerous training sessions were cancelled, statistically runs and wickets were down on previous seasons, match conditions were tricky on a week to week basis and it also made it a very trying and frustrating season for everyone involved. The main reasons why the on field results were so disappointing are for the following reasons. Our batting was our biggest weakness of the year and I believe the key reason for our downfall. The firsts struggled to build consistent fruitful partnerships and often after losing a wicket our opponents would get on a role capturing several wickets in succession. An encouraging sign to come out of our batting was a more positive intent from the top order that has been lacking in previous seasons. However, at times batsman failed to capitalise on their good starts and this required batsman to be more patient and value their wickets more cautiously particularly in key stages of the game. These factors meant that the firsts struggled to score enough runs most weeks to put itself in winning positions. In the bowling department our bowling was steady without being over threatening. At times during the season our bowlers looked to attack too much especially when the order of the day was to bowl tight, increase dots

Page 13: Annual Report 2007/08 - Maccabi

Page 11

and build pressure. There weren’t too many batting line-ups that got a hold of our bowling attack which is an extremely positive sign for a side with such young bowling stocks. Batting and bowling weren’t the only two reasons for our demise. Training attendance was down on previous seasons probably due to the bad weather and the quality of training was not of a high enough standard due to the fact that the quality of players at training was not sufficient. Some players and they know who they are trained professionally and I believe took a lot out of training and I praise them for their efforts. Although the on field results and weather were real dampeners on the year there were numerous positives to come out of season 2010/2011. 25 players donned the baggy blue cap including 10 debutants, more than any other year. The youngest team in the competition had the opportunity to play in a strong grade competing against many seasoned campaigners and experienced cricketers many who have played higher-grade cricket including; former Zimbabwean Test opening bowler Waddington Mwayaenga, former Victorian All-rounder Ian Hewett and former New South Wales representative Matt Daykin. The ‘baby jackas’ also had the privilege to play alongside some of the legends of the Maccabi Ajax Cricket club including Jonathan Weinstock, Daniel Onas and David Gelbart. There is no doubt that the significant improvement of the younger players in the team is a testimony to their guidance, intuition and insight. Finally, the team had the opportunity to play with our two recruited international players Bensiyon ‘Benzee’ Songavkar from India and Yoni Fingleson from South Africa. Benzee and Yoni’s personality and temperament added a real vigour and confidence to an inexperienced team complemented by the abovementioned team leaders. The highlight of the season was the teams remarkable away from home win in Round 10 against eventual grand finalists Old Mentonians. The victory was led by the heroic performance of David Gelbart with 5 wickets and the song was sung that day with great voice and enthusiasm from all who were present. In addition to this great victory, Benzee’s debut in Round 3 away at Mentone was something unforgettable. Benzee basically hopped off the plane strode to the crease under great pressure, anticipation and expectation from all involved at the club and the first ball he faced is something that all who saw is something that we’ll never forget.

Page 14: Annual Report 2007/08 - Maccabi

Annual Report 2010/11

Page 12

Benzee hit his first ball like a tracer bullet right out of the middle of the bat piercing the cover and cover-point fielders before the ball thundered into the boundary for four. After witnessing this special moment in Maccabi Ajax Cricket Club history I will never forget committeeman and former 1st XI captain Leon Jacobs face which read something like, “%$#@ the boy can play.” Benzee’s most outstanding performance of the year was the Round 4 one dayer versus Port Melbourne which saw him bamboozle Port Melbourne’s top order for multiple wickets and finish the day smashing a quick half-century with the bat. Another notable performance during the year was Jonathan Weinstock’s half-century in Round 5 versus Chelsea. The batting display was so good that it forced the Chelsea Cricket Club into offering Jono a lucrative contract for his services for the 2011/2012 season. There were some other incredible individual performances in the Round 8 clash at home to Brighton District. Opening batsman Mark Soffer hit his maiden First XI half-century which was highlighted by some enormous and lusty sixes off their spin bowlers and club stalwart Paul Fink rolled his arm over for the first time in the 1st’s, a performance which netted him 3 valuable wickets. Lastly, the final game of the season versus MHSOB saw the Maccabi Ajax Cricket Club say goodbye to two of its greatest sons with the retirement of David Gelbart and Jono Weinstock. Highlights of the day included Daniel Onas’s powerful half-century with the bat, a tribute to David Gelbart’s headbands and the firsts enjoying playing along side two of its greatest mates for the final time. The 2010/2011 1st XI members were: Darren Bloch: Blochy had the difficult task of opening the batting often against tight opening bowlers and difficult batting conditions. Darren transformed his batting into a more positive and attacking style and definitely benefited from opening up with either Jono or Benzee. Darren was one of our best trainers and most prepared cricketers something that all his teammates should take note of and aspire to be like. Darren needs to continue to improve his fielding and once he learns the ability of reading how to bat in different scenarios and conditions including when to capitalise on a start and attack and when to be more moderate and defend he will become heavy run scorer for us.

Page 15: Annual Report 2007/08 - Maccabi

Annual Report 2010/11

Page 13

Jono Weinstock: ‘Package’ was the best wicket-keeper in the competition conceding very few byes on a week to week basis and was our most consistent batsman often batting at the top in the most difficult of conditions. Jono’s leadership skills are quite remarkable and they speak volumes for the person he is and I’m sure he would’ve had a direct impact on every player that played alongside him this season. Jono’s cricket knowledge and insight definitely made my role as captain a lot easier because of his assistance. Adam Lubitz: When Adam played he was our most reliable and consistent bowler being able to put it wherever he was asked. Adams competitive edge and determination to bowl out opposition batsman made it really hard for me as captain to take the ball out of his hand. Adams busy work commitments meant that he missed several matches towards the latter part of the year and thus really hurt our bowling stocks towards the end of the season. With a huge pre-season focused on bowling, fitness and a stronger commitment level I believe Adam is the ideal person to lead our inexperienced bowling attack deep into the future. Mark Soffer: Mark struggled early in the year and towards the end of the season he was our most damaging batsman being able to score freely and heavily to all parts of the ground. Mark was our biggest improver this year and I feel not only like he belongs at the 1st XI level but he too looks like being the match winner every time he goes out to bat. Mark has remarkable leadership skills for someone so young and he often offered valuable support too his team-mates throughout the year. Mark needs to continue to improve his fitness and work harder on his batting at training and once this transpires the club may have one of the most destructive batsman in the competition. Simon Lipschitz: Simon’s first year at the club was highlighted with a blistering pre-season that earnt him starting in the firsts. Simon quickly became known as reliable with both bat and ball and when called upon to do a job he did so admirably. Simon has real natural talent and this coupled with more experience at the First XI level and a hungrier appetite to succeed could mean that Simon may become a real match winner for us next year. Craig Werb: In Werby’s first year at the club he too started in the First XI. He was our fastest and most threatening bowler often shaking up the top orders that faced him and he too was quite handy with the willow in his hand often batting strongly with

Page 16: Annual Report 2007/08 - Maccabi

Annual Report 2010/11

Page 14

the lower order. Craig’s work commitments meant that he couldn’t attend trainings towards the end of the year and this forced Craig from being available for First XI selection. A big pre-season next year awaits to unleash his full potential. Daniel Onas: Every time Daniel pulled on the whites for us this year he looked like being the match-winner with either bat or ball. His wealth of cricketing knowledge and nous was often relied upon during the year. Ona leads by example both on and off the field and his outstanding cricketing talents mixed with his relaxed personality means that he is greatly admired by all his team mates. David Gelbart: Dave missed the first few games of the season and when he returned to the side he was a destructive warrior with the ball bowling the majority of our overs and was feared by the best of the opposition batsman. With the bat he was solid, gusty and determined and led by example in whatever he did whether it be at training or on game day. Paul Fink: Finky had a fantastic year playing the majority of his matches in the First XI and when he played looked really comfortable as a handy medium-pacer. Paul was real professional on the training track being one of our best trainers and fought adversity most weeks to play through injury. Simon Fisher: Fish was very consistent and tight with his off-spinners and he played a crucial role in our win over the Old Mentonians when he opened the bowling. Bad weather meant shortened games limiting his overs and he was definitely under bowled during the year in a difficult year for spinners. Simon needs to keep working hard on his fitness, batting and look to bowl more at training. Simon has the potential to change games very quickly for us and with this years important overs under his belt and more overs in future years means he will become our number one spinner. Jordan Klotnick: Jordan debuted this year in the First XI as a 15 year old and when he played he displayed maturity beyond his years. On debut he batted extremely impressively taking it right up to the bowlers he faced. Jordan has a huge future at the club but in order to reach his full potential Jordan must work harder and smarter at training in all areas of his game.

Page 17: Annual Report 2007/08 - Maccabi

Annual Report 2010/11

Page 15

Simeon Goldenberg: Sim played the second half of the season and was very useful as a handy middle-order batsman. Sim added valuable First XI experience and expertise to a young team deficient in these areas. David Fayman: The ‘Mailman’ missed a lot of the year due to travel and the team sorely missed him. We got a taste of what he can do towards the end of the year which is really anything he wants too on a cricket field an extraordinary talent to have. A big pre-season from Dave will mean that the club could have one of the most damaging all-rounders in the competition. Bensiyon Songavkar: Our Indian recruit was a genuine star of the competition. When he played everyone including opposition players and supporters would watch in amazement of what he could produce and all other captains praised his cricketing talents. Whether it was with the bat or the ball Benzee made things happen and he was a real leader and mentor to the younger players. The bad weather would’ve been really frustrating for him and this was the only thing standing in his way of dominating our competition. Other players to represent the firsts for the year include; Jay Kramersh who moved to the Prahran Cricket Club towards the end of the year, Ben Fisher and Jeremy Seigel who played in the Round 10 win versus Old Mentonians, South African import Yoni Fingleson, Ryan Fisher and Devon Spilkin whose seasons were cut short due to VCE studies, Jeremy Balbin, Josh Sacks, Mark Shnider and Asher Cooper. So where does the Maccabi Ajax First XI go from here? The Maccabi Ajax Cricket Club does pride itself on being a social club but if the First XI players want to take their cricket more seriously and play the highest level of competitive cricket possible then each and every player must make more of a commitment to the team and all must make certain sacrifices in order to achieve success. Players must learn from their mistakes of the year passed and areas that need assistance should be rectified and players should also look to build on their strengths. Every player should take something away from our retiring stars that have provided such great knowledge and assistance for so many years and it is this leadership that will surely guide us on the path to future sustained successes. The club needs to undertake an earlier pre-season regime for season 2011/2012 in order to be cherry ripe

Page 18: Annual Report 2007/08 - Maccabi

Annual Report 2010/11

Page 16

for the season proper and during the season players must train smarter for harder and longer. Players must get out of their comfort zone and try new challenging initiatives because the same processes and procedures will continue to provide the same results. Importantly, on match-days players must recognise their key moments during games and capitalise on them and not make excuses of why they failed. There are several players who will make a return to cricket in season 2011/2012 and many of those players have already flagged a commitment to the club for the whole year. There are also numerous talented cricketers in the Jewish community who have had some time out of the game for a variety of different reasons (We know who you are!). If these former players are prepared for some hard work, good times, mateship and success then there’s no better time than now to jump on board the Maccabi Ajax Cricket Club bandwagon. I’d like to thank the committee led by the outgoing President Jeffrey ‘Jeffa’ Israel and express thanks to them for electing me as captain and acknowledge all the tireless amount of work they have put in especially helping out this year with the recruiting of our international players. Often in a club such as ours too much is left to too few and I’m very grateful for all the committee have done for the players this season. I’d also like to wish the incoming President Leon Jacobs good luck and all the best for the year ahead in a period that looks very promising for the club. In addition, I’d like to thank our coaches Joey Silver, Steve Atkins, Steve Sandor and Marc Simon for all their hard work and assistance during the year. Whether it be trainings, match-days or out of cricket hours your passion and involvement is something that is invaluable to us as players. The playing group are very appreciative for all you have done for us and I believe you have led us on the right path to sustained success both on and off the field. Furthermore, I’d like to acknowledge the best scorer in the VTCA Laurie and our entertaining team manager Nathan who week in week out made our match days run more smoothly with their help. Not only did Lozza and Nato fulfil their duties for the side they too were very valued members of the First XI team.

Page 19: Annual Report 2007/08 - Maccabi

Page 17

Moreover, I’d like to recognize the hard work of all the captains Simon Morawetz, Jeremy Seigel and Ian Jones and recognize the incredible efforts of our chairman of selectors Simon Fisher. Boys I thoroughly enjoyed our selection meetings and you all should be commended on your hard work and efforts during the year. Finally, I’d like to thank the players for their commitment and support and congratulate retiring players Jono Weinstock and David Gelbart on their fine careers. Jono and Dave it has been an absolute pleasure playing alongside you each week and you two have been for such a long time perfect role models for our younger generation of players. Boys, Saturdays won’t be the same without you and from the entire playing group we wish you all the best in your future endeavours whatever they may be. I hope each and every player thoroughly enjoyed their season of cricket in 2010/2011 and urge all involved to stay positive and upbeat about the season ahead. Go Maccajackas! 2nd XI CAPTAIN’S REPORT – Simon Morawetz

When I was first asked about captaining the Second XI, I wasn’t sure I was up to the job. I had thought about putting my hand up, but self-doubt is a powerful force. It prevents us from fulfilling our potential because we do not like to be tall poppies. So it was only with a little bit of prompting that I undertook the position. The Twos didn’t have the best year on the field, but this is by no means due to shortness of talent. On the contrary, we had numerous players who have earned – this year or previously – spots in the First XI. Some of our players were doing serious damage in junior XIs. It seems to me that the little voice in our heads is at work, preventing us from playing to the level we know we can. It is so silent only we can hear it yet, yet so loud it drowns out all encouragement and advice. I think the difference between our performances this year and what we can achieve has nothing to with umpiring decisions, pitch-preparation, or big Friday nights. It lies between our ears. That said, I would like to congratulate all the boys who bowled and batted like their lives depended on it during the year. Bowlers like JJ Zimmet and Michael Bell busted their guts from preseason to the final round. Jeremy Balbin was a rock at the crease for us and provided one of the season’s highlights with his 84 against Youlden Parkville. I’d like to also acknowledge stand-in skipper Ben Fisher, who came through for the side in my lengthy absence, for which I am grateful. Finally, I’d like to thank the club for giving me the chance to captain the Seconds. My only regret is that I had to spend so long with a pin in my thumb – given the chance, I would love to give it a go for a full season. I believe great things are possible with the talent at the club, regardless of how young a squad we have, and I believe they can happen soon. I hope you all believe it too. Simon Morawetz 2nd XI Captain

3rd XI CAPTAIN’S REPORT – Jeremy Seigel

I would firstly like to thank the committee for giving me the opportunity to captain the 3rd XI and for supporting me throughout the season. I thoroughly enjoyed the role and it is a position that I am extremely honoured to hold and one which taught me many valuable lessons about strategy, commitment and leadership. Although the team had little success during the season, 3rd XI cricket is not all about winning premierships. It was important to develop as many juniors as possible throughout the season in order to play higher elevens in the future. With the likes of Daniel Sneider, Sam Brygel, Adam Klein, Josh Baron, Jono Aldor and Steven Lustig who all played 3rd XI cricket this season, the future certainly looks bright. To the Selection Committee and especially Simon Fisher, thank you for your support and assistance in helping to field an XI every game. There were times where it was so difficult that we were forced to make up to 10 changes to the line up from one week to the next. Despite the weather gutting a vast proportion of season 2010/2011, there were still some highlights to reminisce of my first season in charge of the mighty 3rd X1. In terms of fresh talent: Brent Callis eventually playing a game at the end of the season after facing more hurdles than Colin Jackson which was a terrific reward for his perseverance both on and off the track, and I look forward to him playing in higher elevens in years to come. The quietly spoken Zac Aflalo showed he is quite the swinger with the new ball. Certainly his bowling does the talking. I would like to thank veterans and former 1st XI players Barry Kave and Jeff Nadelman for their continued advice throughout the season. Whilst there was not a lot of play due to the weather, when we did get on the field it was most enjoyable to implement some of the tactics I learnt during my development in Laurie Shneider’s Academy. Short covers and short midwickets definitely have a place in cricket, just not in a side where fielders can’t catch.

To the club’s outgoing President Jeff Israel, you have done truly a magnificent job the last 3 seasons and the club is far better off the field as it prepares for next season. Finally a massive thanks to all the players that filled in, and I look forward to a more successful season in 11/12. Also thanks to Asif for preparing afternoon tea, without you we would be hungrier, which tends to happen when there is no food to eat. Jeremy Seigel 3rd XI Captain 3rd XI BOWLING STATISTICS:

Silver ARC 4th XI CAPTAIN’S REPORT – Ian Jones

The Silver Arc Fourth Eleven enjoyed an entertaining season in a new format for the MCA Sunday C Grade competition, playing mainly one day games and two 20/20 games. With only six teams in the competition, the Fourths played most teams four times during the season. Despite the impact of wet weather on the season, the Sunday team was fortunate to be able to play on more days than any other team. The wet weather was also the cause of the end of our season, with the semi-final against Bentleigh being abandoned due to rain, resulting in a loss due to finishing lower (third on the ladder) than our opposition. While it was disappointing to end the season in this manner, it was very pleasing to reach the finals following a number of sound wins in January and February. However, the 2010-2011 season will be remembered for its consistent rainfall, with both the pitch and the outfield being regularly affected. The Fourths had a few games where the scores were very close and the results hinged on players being able to cope with the conditions. Some batsmen made 30 at Albert Park this season which would be the equivalent of more than double that score on a dry ground with a mown outfield. The team comprised its usual mix of senior players with a number of talented juniors, but were bolstered this season with a few players who have played in higher grades. The outstanding performance of the entire season was the wonderful 101 not out scored by Mark Shnider against Parkville – out of a total of 0/125 scored in 23 overs! Mark made a total of 276 runs for the Fourths, and this total was more than double the next highest aggregate by any player. Benji Jones was a consistent performer with both bat and ball, while Craig Werb was a formidable opening bowler. Nathan Rothschild and Laurie Schneider contributed a number of wickets with their crafty bowling, while Simon Fisher had a “day out” against De La Salle with 4 wickets for 8 runs. The stylish batting of Aaron Fetter showed further improvement this season, and Eli Lipshatz regularly bowled tightly at the end of the opposition’s innings.

Mark Shnider’s 101 against Parkville in Round 19 Benji Jones 4 for 13 against Parkville in Round 10 Laurie Schneider (4 for 26) and Nathan Rothschild ( 4 for 20) bowling out

Thornbury Turf Strokers in Round 6 Craig Werb taking 3 for 14 against Thornbury Turf Strokers in Round 1 Aaron Fetter regularly batting through to the end of the Fourths’ innings with

five not outs for the season The partnership between Benji and Josh Jones against Bentleigh in Round 20 –

while it was only 30 runs, on a very wet ground they took the score from 5 for 14 to 6 for 44

My thanks go to the members of the team for their assistance, and also to our loyal supporters of Mark Soffer (no. 1 ticketholder), Jeremy Seigel and Simon Fisher for their regular attendance at our games. I am appreciative of the number of players and club stalwarts who came to support us at the semi-final against Bentleigh. I would also like to thank my wife Alison and daughter Leah who assisted the Fourths by scoring and providing afternoon teas. Last year, the afternoon teas were very good, but this year I am confident we had the best afternoon teas in the competition – with homemade Pavlova being offered with dips, crackers, cake and fruit! Hopefully, the performance this season will allow the Sunday team to rise next year to a higher grade and thereby return to playing two-day cricket, which will suit both our ability and the further development of our junior players. Ian Jones Silver ARC 4th XI Captain
