OFFICE OF RESEARCH ADMINISTRATION
September 2010 We are pleased to present the report of Sponsored Programs activity for The City College of CUNY during the fiscal year July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010. Our faculty and staff received more than $68.8 million in awards during this period, a 24.3% increase over last year’s total. With this all-time high figure, we have surpassed all the funding goals outlined in the strategic plan for 2009-13. In addition, the faculty was awarded $338,560 in PSC-CUNY grants and $20,000 in CUNY Collaborative, Equipment, and Start-up funds. Only $6.5 million of this year’s total can be attributed to federal spending through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). A strong commitment to research programs has contributed to the significant growth in funding. There were strong gains in Engineering, Science and Sophie Davis awards. Faculty continue to submit highly competitive proposals which I am sure will lead to even better results next year. Already in the first two months of this fiscal year, they have brought in well over $15 million. The attached report shows the breadth and scope of our faculty’s grant activities and illustrates the high caliber of talent to be found throughout the College. We hope you find the report both interesting and informative. We have added additional tables and charts to enhance the report. Special thanks this year go to Adam Greenberg and Leonard Wilson for compiling this report and to the entire ORA staff for another year of excellent service to the college community. Sincerely,
Regina Masterson Director

The Professional Staff Congress-City University of New York (PSC-CUNY) Research Award Program was established as a major vehicle for the University's encouragement and support of faculty research and leverage external funding. It seeks to enhance the University's role as a research institution, further the professional growth and development of its faculty, and provide support for both the established and the younger scholar. Awards are distributed by the University Committee on Research Awards, a faculty committee, and administered by the Research Foundation of CUNY. Preference is given to junior faculty in the allocation of funds.
Once again, Humanties thrived on PSC-CUNY funding, representing 31 percent of monies awarded and 27.8 percent of total awards.
