of Social Organisaons 'Alraid' created in

1997 was the rst one to unite Ukrainian Muslims

regardless their ethnic origin, social status and

dierences of opinion for certain maers.

This work gives us neither prot nor polical in-

uence. Comming good deeds is our duty as

Muslims and our responsibility to God. Besides,

we love our Homeland and want to see it peace-

ful, safe and prosperous.

Today we have 20 social organisaons in dierent

regions of Ukraine. Our priories are cultural and

educaonal projects and providing assistance for

people of Ukraine.

Today 'Alraid' matches its name (Ar. 'leading,progressive') by being one of the largest Muslim

social unions in the country. This became possi-

ble with the zeal and commitment demonstrat-

ed by every member of our mulethnic

team.

Our aim is to unite the Ukrainian Um-

mah for good. We do not avoid prob-

lems even if they arent of the Mus-

lims direct concern: we work for

the welfare of our country and

upgrade the living standards

for everybody including

Muslims.

Many people have a wrong

belief that 'Alraid' is some charity

fund, which is not quite right. Charity is, of course, one of most

important sphere of our work, we, however, place our stake on

cultural and educaonal projects. We see ourselves as a social

organisaon represenng Islam as it is, without extremies and

stereotypes and calling upon every Muslim to develop oneself,

aim at gaining knowledge and take an acve part in the life of

Ukrainian society.

cial to other people', Prophet Muhammad once said.

We bring this hadith to life not only by our words

(i.e. booklets on overcoming casgate vice, lectures, roundtables

on topical issues), but by acon as well. We take part in free do-

norship beneciaries, do some community redevelopment and

take care of graveyards, reconstruct mosques, fundraise for the

poor and needy (vicms of the oods, refugees, etc.)

babbling of idle gossips. We hold regular cultural and educaon-

al seminars, roundtables and conferences at our Islamic Cultural

centres in order to dispel stereotypes on the non-Muslims and

increase knowledge of the Muslim women.

The Associaon acvely cooperates with the governing bodies,

research instuons, internaonal and social organisaons and

dierent religious communies, i.e. Centre For Islamic Studies,

RAMU 'Umma', RAM of Crimea. Representaves of our female

department regularly parcipate in the events held by the men-

oned instuons.

A cow for a low-income family

e, the AUASO 'Alraid' team, are trying to

lend a helping hand to everyone in need

for support at the best of our ability.

More than 2100 orphans receive quarterly al-

lowances. Needy families receive both target aid

('A Cow For A Low-Income Family' Project, wells

and water boreholes for selements with no

access to fresh water, covering the medical aid

costs, school supplies for schoolchildren frompoor families, providing needy families with warm

blankets) and facilies to earn their living on their

own (sewing machines for mothers of large fami-

lies, greenhouses for the repatriate families, free

dressmaking courses for women, free computer

courses, hairdressing courses, etc.)

We hold charity iars during the month of Ram-

adan, and poor families are provided with full

grocery baskets for the whole month of fasng.

of Ukraine 'Umma' contributes to building, renovang and

reconstrucng Mosques in the areas of Muslim compact selement

and reconstructed since then; another 2 are to be completed in 2014.
