DIRECTORS' MESSAGE
Dear Alumni,
Greetings from TISS!!!
The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936, as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. The first school of social work in India, TISS was a pioneering effort with the objective of social welfare through academic excellence. In 1944, the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work was renamed as the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. Since then, TISS has been expanding continuously in terms of educational programmes and infrastructure. While responding to the changing needs of the social and educational system in the country, the Institute has gone far beyond the initial concern of social work education. Thus, what started as a small Institution offering a postgraduate diploma in Social Work, grew into a Deemed University and, as a result, diversified its activities.
Since its inception, TISS has never limited itself to the mandate of a conventional university; rather, it has worked for the promotion of sustainable, equitable and participatory development, social welfare and social justice for all. We recognize the contribution of and supremely grateful to the founders of the Institute, alumni, teachers and staff for creating and nurturing an Institution of excellence in higher education that continually responds to changing social realities.
I am glad that alumni have come forward to form TISS Alums Association and registered itself under the Bombay Public Trust and Society Registration Act 1860 (Registration No.: 529/201212, Mumbai). I am hopeful that this initiative will increase the level of communication and promote positive lifelong relationships between alumni and the Institute.
I welcome the activities and events organized by TISS Alums Association and its Chapters, such as National Alums Meet, Regional Alums Meets, Blood donation camp and the effort to launch a separate website dedicated to the alumni and their relationship with the Institute.
Staying connected through experiences at TISS is a simple but powerful bond, and provides the opportunity to reflect on our time at the Institute and the rich tradition and growing community that make our alma mater unique. We all have special memories of TISS, including the bonds we made with room mates, friends, and professors, as well as the classes and experiences that touched our lives. There is no better way to keep those memories and that meaning alive than actively being a part of the TISS Alums Association. I encourage you to connect with each other, give back to the Institute and current students and take advantage of the opportunities TISS continues to offer. This is your alumni association. Please join your fellow TISS Alums Association in exploring and participating in its dynamic programs and services today, and begin to add great new TISS memories to those you already have. Wherever you might be, remember, you always have a home right here in the Institute.

FROM PRESIDENT'S DESK
Dear Fellow Alumni,
Greetings from a fellow TISSian !
In the pages that follow you will see what your Alumni Association has done over the past year. i would say that we have had a mixed year with positive developments around organising our Blood Donation camps, Re Unions for the various batches of Senior TISSians , having our Managing committee monthly meeting cadence in place etc. Our efforts to reach out to Alumni teams from the different schools and also across the 4 campuses of TISS have also started moving in the right direction now. However we have a lot of ground to cover in terms of reaching out to all our Alumni (especially the senior Alumni from earlier batches), strengthening our Alumni base and bringing Alumni together into the TISSAA family so that we can develop into a strong and vibrant alumni community that supports TISS and the many noble causes that TISS undertakes. These efforts cannot be accomplished by one person or a small team but will require the wholehearted support and spirited participation of many TISSians so that that we can really make an impact for our Alma mater and the society at large.
I would personally request you to please come forward and participate with your ideas, actions and contributions to make TISSAA more effective and relevant Association in times to come.
Before ending this note I would like to place on record my gratitude towards our Director Sir and his team for the excellent support and guidance that they extend to us time and again when we reach out to them knocking their doors for help. I would also like to Thank the Dean Students Affairs and his team for their help and support extended this year. Last but not the least I would like to THANK all wellwishers ( Student Union, Students community and others) who have helped TISSAA in their own small yet significant ways in the last year.
In the years ahead we will continue to look for new and bold ways of serving our Alma Mater and our members and the society at large. We will continue to seek out innovative methods to bring alumni together and communicate with them (we are confident of having our Alumni Website ready later this year) . We will continue to focus efforts to supporting our Alma Mater and the Alumni in areas as required. In parting, I would like to say that " For a Tree to grow tall , the roots have to be strong ", The common roots that we share is our Alma mater TISS. My appeal to all would be to come together putting aside the many narrow differences that might prevent us from being known as a " TISSian " to nurture our roots and fuel our development and sustainable growth as One BIG TISS family.
With Best Wishes,
Mr. Arun S. Kaimal,President, TISS Alums Association

ABOUT TISS ALUMS ASSOCIATION
TISS Alums Association (TISSAA) came into existence as a notforprofit organization, under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 on 11th March, 2013. It is also registered under the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950. During the time of registration the membership base of TISSAA was only seven, who were also the founding members (Trustees). Since then the membership figures have been growing in a slow but steady manner and at the end of FY 201415 TISSAA had registered 235 Life Members.
Managing Committee Members
The founding members of TISSAA were the Managing Committee Members in the FY 201314. In September 2014, election of the new Managing Committee (MC) of TISSAA has taken place for the period of three years, i.e. September 2014 to August 2017. The election has taken place through the mode of selfnomination of the life members because the number of nominations were less than the maximum number of MC positions, i.e. 12 members. In the month of January 2015 three more MC members were coopted by the existing MC, whose term will end with the term of the current MC, i.e. August 2017.
The list of MC members are:

FINANCE AND FUND RAISING
TISSAA is a year old association, which is still in the process of streamlining its financial viability. Currently TISSAA has two account, one with the Institute and another at ICICI bank. To better serve alumni, the TISSAA needs more funds and for which it has initiated its own fund raising drive since its inception. Various means of fund raising has been discussed and deliberated from time to time but the entire process is yet to take up momentum.
TISSAA Life Membership Fee: The life membership fee constitute the corpus amount of TISSAA. The association has initiated its Life Membership drive from November 2013. This is a paid membership, with certain valueadded services. The membership fee has been fixed at Rs. 2500.00 but it has been lowered to Rs. 2000.00 for alumni of 201214 batch (decision has been taken by the TISSAA Managing Committee), which is required to be paid only once. As on March 31, 2015 there were 235 Life Members of TISSAA, which needs to be driven more strategically to raise the corpus amount of the association. The funds raised through this will be used solely for the benefit of the members and in the official capacity. On date, the fee is being deposited in the ICICI bank account of TISSAA.
