Leadership Message

Jane EisbrennerPresident & CEO

Jon TaylorChair

Board of Directors

Jon TaylorChair, Board of Directors

Jane EisbrennerPresident & CEO

Hard to believe that JA Worldwide (JAWW) is celebrating their 100 year

anniversary! Equally as impressive is the fact that JAWW was recently

ranked #7 in a global list of 500 of the world’s best not-for-profit

organizations. Surviving a century of world events and landing in the top

10 of the world’s best, is no small feat!

As a proud member of the global JA network, we are delighted to deliver

on the impactful work of this brand in Central Ontario. This last year once

again provided applause and gratitude from teachers, corporate partners,

volunteers, parents and donors for the fact that what we do is so critically

important to the next generation. Household debt continues to rise and

young people living in a ‘cashless society’ fail to understand the value

of money and how to care for it. The good news is that JA is creating

a pipeline of entrepreneurs and raising a generation of astute money

managers. Skills and job expectations are changing dramatically, and JA is

paving the way to this change.

Year-over-year we are overwhelmed at the stories we hear from volunteers

who have been in the classroom or mentored students in Company

program. Our work would not happen without them and for that we are

most grateful. These volunteers have experienced first-hand the value of

what we teach, and repeatedly we hear our volunteers say: “I wish I had a

JA program when I was in school!”

To those reading this message and the highlights of our last fiscal

contained in this report, thank you. We appreciate the part you played in

fueling our responsibility to improve the money-management skills of the

next generation, to add value to their choice of career and to spark the

entrepreneurial spirit that will drive economic gain for our city, province

and country. Your friendship is valuable to us and we are most grateful.

Sincerely,

JA Field Trips provide students with a unique “out of classroom” learning experience. Hosted at a corporate office, post-secondary or community venue, students hear from industry experts and participate in a JA program led by an engaging

team. Participating in a field trip allows students to experience first hand what a corporate or post-

secondary environment is like.

As the winning team, JA Central Ontario was awarded the grand prize - a $75,000 USD donation from FedEx.

Company of the Year

This year, AcornTalent was the recipient of our Company of the Year award. This student-run company focused on helping STEM students get their first job in data science through digital quizzes, hackathons and recruitment events.

Company Program is a hands-on business and career skill-building program for high school students. With mentorship from Volunteer Advisors, these young entrepreneurs worked together as a team to create, build and liquidate their very own business in 18 weeks.

855Students

In May 2019, we hosted our first financial literacy event for Milton students. Thanks to support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation*, over 400 grade 7 students learned from mentors and industry experts about currency and what it means to be SMART consumers. The insights shared, provided students with a basic understanding of what it takes to successfully manage their financial futures.

Throughout the year we hosted several JA World of Choices events for high school students. Through engaging career mentors and inspirational speakers, students learned about the limitless opportunities available to them as they consider their future educational and career pathways.
