Dr.S.Subbiah, Vice-Chancellor, Alagappa University, Karaikudi, has been invited as

the Chief Guest for the 51st Founder‟s Day and College Day Celebrations on March 16

th

2016. Since, the date for assembly elections has been declared as 16.05.2016, the code of

conduct came into effect immediately. The Government of Tamil Nadu instructed all

educational institutions to cancel / postpone all celebrations in the college. Therefore the

Annual Day scheduled for 16.03.2016 was cancelled.

INTERNATIONAL ACHIEVERS AWARD:

Our beloved Secretary Thiru.N.Rameswaran has been awarded the prestigious

International Achievers Award by the International Achievers Conference, New Delhi, for

the year 2015-2016 for his valuable contribution towards the development of the society,

particularly for his commendable achievements in providing quality education to the rural

poor. Only 40 people in India are selected for the award from different fields like Health,

Corporate Sector, Individual Achiever, Education etc., Out of 40 only 5 people are selected

for Education and our Secretary is one among the five achievers selected for education. It is

no wonder that our Secretary has been awarded this honour as we all well know about the

achievements and honours of our management starting from our beloved Founder, former

President and the present President.

Gesture of Gratitude:

I would like to express my profound gratitude to our college Management, our

Respected President.Dato.N.Vasantha Rajan, our beloved Secretary Thiru.N.Rameswaran

and our beloved Secretary – Arumugam Pillai Seethai Ammal College of Education,

Thiru.N.Arumuga Rajan, for the timely and valuable suggestions so that I could steer the

college in the right path and in the right direction. At the same time, I will be failing in my

duty, if I do not mention the co-operation extended to me by our teaching and non-teaching

staff. I have to thank my loving children – students who are my strength and power. I am

deeply indebted to the team of Vice-Principals Dr.N.Ramani, who is completing her 6th

year

as Vice-Principal, and Dr.GV.Gopinath, who is completing his 2nd

year term respectively

who had spent more time in the college than with their families. Their dedication to the

college is commendable.

With a view to promote the educational attainment in this backward District and also

to alleviate the unemployment problem due to the lack of educational qualifications,

Arulmamani Thiru.N.T.S.ARUMUGAM PILLAI started this temple of learning in the year

1965 by pooling his hard earned money on a foreign soil.

His philanthropic foresight has brought out this First Grade College offering

undergraduate courses in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Computer Science,

Information Technology, Economics, History, English Literature, Business Administration,

Commerce, Post Graduate courses in Economics, English, Commerce & Mathematics,

M.Phil courses in Economics, English, Commerce, Ph.D in Economics, Diploma Courses in

Personnel Management & Industrial Relations, Office Management and Certificate courses in

Spoken English.

Our management has started Arumugam Pillai Seethai Ammal College of Education

by offering B.Ed., program from 2006-2007. The dream of our Founder to provide higher

education to the needy people has been successfully completed by our former President

Thiru.N.A.R.Nagarajan. The dream of providing opportunities to do professional courses has

been successfully fulfilled by the sons of Thiru.N.A.R.Nagarajan, by starting Arumugam

Pillai Seethai Ammal College of Education.

I am also very glad to inform that the Economics Department of our college has been

upgraded as a Research Department from 2006-2007. The Departments of English, Maths,

Commerce & Business Administration Departments have also been upgraded as Research

Department from 2012-2013. The college is registering a steady and continuous growth year

by year. This achievement is made possible by the unstained efforts taken by our revered

Founder and its illustrious sons and grandsons.

STUDENTS STRENGTH:

Even though arts and science colleges have registered a decline in students‟ strength due

to the upcoming of a number of professional colleges, the strength in our college is always on

the increase because of the quality of teaching of our untiring and elite staff aided by campus

discipline. This year we have 2144 students of which 1487 are girls and 657 are boys.

LIBRARY

The General Library has taken various initiatives to improve the existing

infrastructure facilities, services and collections to provide strong and dynamic support for

academic & research development. The library caters to the needs of over 2000 students,

teachers and other visiting faculty. In this regard, some of the selected initiatives are listed

below:

Collection of Books:

The library is a power house of resources that generate knowledge. Arumugam Pillai

Seethai Ammal College has a well-equipped library as a Learning Resource Centre with a

vast collection of about 33809 books. The students and faculty members can have access to

more than 450 back volumes and 405 Question Banks. Basic to advanced books are added

every year for the users of the library. The library has grown in terms of it collection of

books during the academic year 2015-2016, from 33659 to 33809. The library this year has

spent Rs.42,287/- on the purchase of books and Rs.50,900/- for periodicals and dailies.

E-Resources:

The Resource Centre operations and services are fully computerized and provide an

online access to the core digital resources in the ICT area. Through Institutional membership

more than 6000 e-journals and 97000 e-books can be accessed under the project entitled

"National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content (N-LIST)"

of INFLIBNET Centre, Ahmadabad. In addition to this, the library also has a collection of e-

books.

The Centre aims to facilitate collection & dissemination of knowledge, information,

insight & intellectual contribution in all areas of education for the benefit of students and

staff. The library provides open access system for the users including students, research

scholars and faculties. In addition to the above central facility, the departments have their

own libraries.

Library Automation

The library has adopted latest technologies for quick processing. The library resource

centre is fully automated. It is computerized by using Modern lib user-friendly library

software and the entire collection of books is bar-coded.

The barcode printer in the library is used for printing the accession number of the

books which would be scanned during books transaction and during issue and return of

books.

ID scanners record the entry of users into the library. It is used for calculating the

daily report of users visiting the library. The number of books, periodicals and e-books are

updated every year. We have added 50 more seats to make it easier to find a good place to

study and rearranged furniture to create separate quiet zones and group work spaces. We

have set up displays to highlight new collections and materials. Fire extinguisher has been

installed for the protection of the library. CCTV cameras are installed at the library to

monitor and record the visitors to protect rare books and displays with cameras directly

monitoring them.
