During 2016-2017new fund created - Created by Jean Smith, who taught at General McLane for more than 40 years, the J.L. Smith Endowment will annually award a grant to elementary teachers in special area subjects at either McKean and Edinboro Elementary School.
26 scholarships awarded to GMHS seniors
1William and Mary Smith Grants Awarded - Since 2013, thirteen JWPMS teachers have received this grant to enhance their curriculum. This grant stems from James W. Parker Middle School math teacher Bill Smith and his wife, Mary. JWPMS teachers Christina Martin and Chris Triola were the 2017 recipients. Martin used the grant for a professional screen printing station. Triola’s inno-vative grant, Modern Mathematics, transforms the physical structure of the classroom from being teacher-centered to student-centered through environmental enhancements.
2
years of participating in Erie Gives Day - The General McLane Foundation participated in Erie Gives Day on August 9, 2016 and raised $3,603.81. Since participating in Erie Gives Day, the Foundation has raised over $11,000 for students. 6

Golf Outing & Holiday Arts Fair
The General McLane Foundation 10th Annual Golf Outing took place July 23, 2016, at Culbertson Hills Golf Course in
Edinboro. There were 56 golfers that brought in $5,850 for General McLane students. The revenues from this year’s event almost dou-bled previous year’s, thanks to the various sponsorship levels. This was the first year that Walker Bros. gave away a 2016 Buick Encore as a hole-in-one prize!
The General McLane Foundation’s 10th Annual Holiday Arts Fair took place November 19, 2016, at General McLane
High School. There were about 80 vendors present, with nearly 20 new vendors. In ad-dition, there were multiple performances by General McLane School District’s band pro-gram. Paid attendance was a record of 1,133. The event raised $8,871.70 for General McLane students, an event high.
Foundation funding comes from memorials/honorariums, local corporations and Foundation events. The Holiday Arts Fair and Golf Outing are our two major fundraising events. These events are always
seeking volunteers, donors and sponsors.
This year marked the last year for event organizer Sally Scarlett. Sally Scarlett graciously volunteered her time and exper-tise to the Foun-dation as the Holiday Arts Fair organizer, provid-ing invaluable in-sights, perspec-tive, and guidance throughout the last 10 years, and helping the Foundation to raise more than $63,000.00 specif-ically through this event.
Scarlett’s final arts fair
In conjunction with the 34th Annual Broadway Dinner, the General McLane Foundation kicked off a fundraiser to raise money for a new Performing Arts Wing and weight room expansion at General McLane High School. Thanks to generous donations from community mem-bers, alumni, faculty and staff, more than $116,000, plus inkind services (equipment, shelves, etc.), was raised for this wing. The fully renovated and expanded weight room nearly doubled the previ-ous size and added more vertical space. GM graduate and President of Key-stone Fitness Equipment Matt Kuffer (‘97) and his wife Olga Kuffer donated 13 new machines and two new weight racks now occupy the new room. The donation was coordinated through Kuffer and Gold Gyms in Rochester.

Through generous donations, the General McLane Foundation raised more than $120,000 toward the Performing Arts Wing. This added 2100 square feet to General McLane High School, specifically for costuming and set design and construction. The wing was com-pleted in 2017 and is getting fully utilized. During a time when the arts are being slashed,
General McLane & its community remains committed to supporting the arts.
