Aloha Friends and Donors,

Volunteerism, partnerships and collaboration are what Maui United Way is all about. While we help to raise funds for our partner agencies, we also work to increase awareness within our Island’s community about our partner agencies and the services they provide.

Two years ago, we began the process of “reinventing” MUW. Our allocation process was changed to be more in touch with current community issues and work to solve them. We also looked for new ways to broaden our relationships with our partner agencies, increase volunteerism, and touch the lives of more Maui residents.

One year ago, the students of Maui Waena Intermediate School featured MUW and five of our partner agencies, and told our stories to the world. By collaborating with our partner agencies we also began “community days” at the local shopping malls. This enabled MUW and our partner agencies to interact with our donors and clients, so that they could learn more about what we do.

I am happy to say that the change in direction has been successful. This past year, individuals and businesses once again reached deep into their pockets to help those in need. I am pleased to say that due to your desire to help our community, we raised $1,031,109 in the 2012-2013 Campaign. The funds raised will provide much needed support for our 36 partner agencies.

Presidents Message

Aloha MUW Ohana,

Maui United Way works to make a meaningful, measurable difference in the lives of everyone in our community. In this report, you’ll learn about the work undertaken during the last year. This was a productive year, working with over 350 businesses to raise $1,031,109, benefitting from 1,732 volunteer hours, collecting 926 toys for children in need during the holidays, raising $18,000 at our first-ever Starlight Cinema Event, and funding 36 health and human service programs to support Maui’s most vital needs.

Maui United Way is best able to address the most pressing problems by capitalizing on our unique role as a bridge-builder between the public, private and non-profit sec-tors. Our organization brings together a variety of partners – people and organiza-tions who bring the passion, expertise and resources needed to get things done. We are committed to addressing the underlying root causes of Maui’s most pressing issues, while simultaneously making sure people get the short-term help they need.

Thanks to the exceptional generosity of our donors and the outstanding commitment of our partners, 75,631 services were offered to those in need. We continue our work supporting vulnerable youth in achieving academic success, helping families work toward financial stability, and improving people’s health. In recognition of the critical role that nonprofits play in our community’s health and human services delivery system, we continue supporting and strengthening nonprofit organizations.

Maui United Way believes that everyone has a role in building a better future for all. Through our LIVE UNITED movement, we invite everyone to help us shape community-wide change. You’ll see in this report that our partner organizations and our com-munity have heeded our call to GIVE, ADVOCATE and VOLUNTEER. We are inspired by their participation and will continue to tackle the underlying causes of complex problems across our community.
