LETTER FROM THE CHAIRMANAs I reflect on my year as chair and years of work with the Council, I am honored to have played a role in helping this organization reach so many milestones in support of the health care industry.
Over the past year, membership exceeded 300 companies, reaching the highest level in Council history. Through the Council’s unmatched programming, more than 80 events were attended by more than 6,700 total people.
The Council Fellows program, an extraordinary initiative that brings together health care’s brightest minds and top drivers of change, received the highest number of applications in its history and graduated a class of 28 Fellows. These graduates now join a network of more than 220 Fellows Alumni in cities across the United States.
The Council’s efforts to inspire global collaboration to improve health care continued as the Council hosted its 13th international health care study mission to Israel. This mission offered attendees a weeklong agenda of high-level networking, global dialog opportunities, and a firsthand perspective of Israel’s unique culture of innovation. Delegates from the trip returned with broadened perspectives and poised to drive valuable outcomes from newly forged international relationships.
Leadership Health Care, developed in response to a need within the industry for a place where young professionals could network with peers and gain essential industry knowledge, celebrated its 17th year. This year’s programming was focused on delivering robust quality, and deepening member engagement with the introduction of the LHC Mentoring Cohorts, as well as a new Health Care 101 event and a series of Lunch and Learns, all of which sold out.
In 2018, the Council hosted an event to celebrate HCA Healthcare’s 50th anniversary. A bedrock of Nashville’s health care community, HCA Healthcare was born out of innovation. This innovation continues to help drive industry growth and reinforces a culture of collaboration unique to our region.
In the invaluable role it plays, the Council will continue to grow and support Nashville’s health care industry as we look to the future.
Onward,
R. Milton Johnson Retired Chairman and CEO HCA Healthcare
