The timing of the writing of this letter in preparation of the annual report coincides with back to school. It is this time of year where our hearts swell from the generosity of so many, and the donations we receive throughout the year are turned into glue sticks, backpacks, pencils, folders, and so much more.

It is this time of year where we see the smiles from students, and hear the gratitude in so many ways from area teachers—because of people like you who give and then put those smiles on the face and gratitude in a teacher’s heart.

Our favorite visual is that of a new teacher—new to the store and new to education—and they come into the store and are truly overwhelmed with bounty they can access. And it is all free to them, because people like you want to make their lives easier, and make sure kids are school-ready every day.

Your donation is precious to us. Please be reminded that for every dollar we receive, we are able to distribute $15.00 in school supplies. Remaining true to the mission and staying as lean as possible, the focus to get more products to more classrooms is our day to day effort. Because of you, we are truly doing so.

If you have the willingness, please come and see the store. You will see how we turn your generosity into even more. We tell teachers every day that there are so many people who support them and their kids—in quiet ways—and we are here for them.

There is a great deal of pride in the work we do daily—your willingness to strengthen our ability to take care of the kids and teachers in Marion County adds to our pride.

Thank you for being a part of this mission and work. We continue to give—one shopping cart at a time—because of you.

    The Need:

    Our Solution:

Teachers’ Treasures obtains and distributes school supplies free to teachers of students in need.

Every day at public, private, charter, and parochial schools located throughout Marion County, children of all ages attend class without the most basic supplies they need to get a good education. Dedicated teachers are often willing to pay for these much needed supplies out of their own pockets to make sure the kids in their classrooms have the necessary tools to learn. On average, teachers spend $500 a year on school supplies for their students.

Teachers’ Treasures helps fill this need by operating a volunteer-based “Free Store for Teachers.” Donated and purchased educational supplies and other materials are distributed via this unique conduit to teachers for the benefit of their students. We serve teachers from any school in Marion County with 60% or more of the student population on the free or reduced lunch program.

Teachers’ Treasures operates as a part of the Kids in Need Foundation Network of Resource Centers; an organization that help supports organizations similar to Teachers’ Treasures across the country.

  • Mobile Outreach Program Update

Since our pilot in Spring of 2016, we were able to serve 884 teachers and 13,000 students in 2016-17 academic year. We expanded Mobile Outreaches during the 2017-18 school year, serving roughly 20,000 students, 1,200 teachers and distributing over $168,000 worth of supplies. Our hope is to continue to grow our ability to serve students in Marion County through their teachers with over 72 trips during the 2018-19 school year. This growth has been made possible by the Indianapolis Rotary Foundation; thanks to a generous grant that allowed us to purchase the van pictured below, increasing our capacity to serve more students than ever before.

    “@teachers.treasureswww.teacherstreasures.org | 317-264-1758

The teachers in my building do not get a school supply budget. Without the donations from Teachers’ Treasures,

hundreds of dollars of our own money would be used to purchase supplies. People don’t realize how quickly the cost

of basic supplies adds up when you’re buying for an entire class of under-privileged children.”

I have students who are homeless. They know they can come to my classroom and receive supplies without anyone

knowing. I have students getting their younger siblings supplies to use at school and at home for projects.”

Only 5 of the 29 students in my class came to school with supplies this year. I spend so much of my money to support

the students’ needs. Teachers’ Treasures is a blessing to so many teachers and students. We are so thankful for the

donations and support from generous donors. Teachers’ Treasures gives not only supplies, but hope.”
