President's Report

2017-2018

The three clubs from Zone 7 who joined our Zone have certainly performed well in the Pennants this year and are certainly a very welcome addition to our Zone which now consists of 23 clubs. Delegates from these three clubs attend our Bi-Monthly Management Meetings travelling from Gerringong, Shoalhaven Heads and Bomaderry on a regular basis, your attendance is appreciated. The Prestigious South Pacific Carnival and the World Bowls Cup Singles were once again a huge success. Thank you to all concerned. Both events attract numerous supporters and visitors to the Illawarra annually.

This year the South Pacific Carnival will see Towradgi Park Bowling and Recreation Club as the Headquarters, and on past performance will again prove to be an outstanding Carnival.

The Executive Committee provided a subsidy of $400.00 per team in order to defray the cost of accommodation involved in our teams visiting Merimbula in order to play in the No. One (1) Southern Conference Travel, Meals and Accommodation proved costly for our Zone 16 teams involved.

To our Loyal sponsors who have again supported our Zone, a very big thank you from all in our bowling fraternity.

Our thanks to our Zone 16solicitor Justine Hall who gives of her valuable time to advise on all matters relating to our Policies and allied documents prior to the printing, and distribution of same.

Also, I would like to thank our Auditor Michael Waldie for his ongoing assistance and sound advice to our Treasurer, Ray Evans, who is now the Public Officer for our Zone.

Thank you to all Zone 16 bowling Clubs who have continued to support and host Zone 16 events during the year. Without your continued support we could not conduct these events and provide the Trophies and Prizemoney for such.

To our Local media W.I.N and the Illawarra Mercury for their excellent coverage of all our bowling events during the year.

My personal thanks to all members of the Executive Committees who have ably supported me during my nine years in office. In particular I would like to place on record my thanks to Brian and Angela Gibson for the long hours that they both put in to ensure that all goes well on the bowling front .and to our Secretary, Harry Herring who is a real asset for our Zone.

Our Zone would also like to thank Greg Helm and his team at the RNSWBA who assisted us on a regular and timely basis during the year.

This year our Zone 16 team have again performed well, and again are, a credit to our Zone. To each member of the various Zone 16 Committees, a very sincere thanks to you for your outstanding contribution to our Zone during the year under review.

It is certainly a real pleasure to work with such a dedicated and loyal team of Officials, thank you all!

On behalf of all members of Zone 16 our condolence to all families who lost loved ones during the year, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Next year will again be a challenge, but with the continued support of our clubs and members we will achieve our goals of promoting, advancing and controlling the great game of bowls.

SECRETARY’S REPORT

2017 – 2018

This is my second report for Zone 16 and I firstly must congratulate and thank Zone 16 executive for

their help and understanding allowing me to fulfil the position as secretary. As most would know I have been involved in bowls for a few years and held a few positions. The position of Secretary can

be demanding and also fulfilling. With electronic media things become quicker and maybe a bit simpler but also with that comes quantity.

I have put my hand up for another year as I have enjoyed working for the bowlers of the Zone.

As noted last year the Zone is in a strong position both administratively and financially.

I had the pleasure of working with some very capable and keen members of the Executive who all

give generously with their time.

With the addition of Shoalhaven Heads & Bomaderry Bowling clubs to Zone 16 in 2017 our Zone is going from strength to strength.

To Brian and Angela Gibson and the match committee thanks for a great job in handling all the pennants and championships for another successful South Pacific Carnival hosted by Dapto Citizens

Bowling Club. The nominations for 2017-18 event was down & with 2018-19 being our 60th year we

hope it will be the biggest of all time.

Congratulations to Warilla for again hosting the World Bowls Tournament most successfully and to

two of their members Aaron Teys & Leif Selby, Aaron for winning World Champion of Champion Singles Title & Leif for being inducted into Bowls Australia Hall of Fame.

Congratulations to all our Zone pennant winners.

Once again, we found it disappointing in the numbers that came to Management Meetings and the

lack of input from clubs and delegates. We now hold bi-monthly meetings in the hope of getting

more to attend.

There are some interesting times ahead with the Suiko report now being reviewed by BNSW we

eagerly await the outcome.

Thanks for having me and do your best to promote our game.

MATCH COMMITTEE REPORT FOR 2017/18

On behalf of the Match Committee I would like to thank all the bowls Coordinators/Secretaries for

their assistance this year, also the Clubs that assisted us by letting us use their greens.

I would also like to thank my Match Committee for their assistance during the year.

For the first time in a while, zone numbers remained steady at about 2,700 halting the steady decline

that had been occurring.

The late start to Pennants caused much discussion and meant that most of our Zone Championships

had to be completed prior to Pennants starting.

A good cross section of clubs will be represented at the State Finals later in the year and we have

some strong teams representing Zone 16, so hopefully we can win a couple of state titles.

Dapto Citizens hosted the 59th South Pacific Carnival after a long break and did a very good job.

Live streaming of finals day was tried and may be something for the future.

Towradgi will host the 60th carnival at the end of the year.

Zone 16 hosted 3 State Events this year.

Kiama hosted the State Champion of Club Champion Singles and Pairs and all the comments from

everyone were that they did a very good job and the hospitality was exceptional.

Warilla once again hosted the Club Challenge Finals and after a few hiccups because of rain, the

event was finalised using the magnificent indoor greens.

Figgy Bowlo hosted their first big State event when the State Senior Interzone was held in May.

To host this event at one club is a very big task and David Kelly and the board did a remarkable job.

Greens Committee

2017 – 2018

This year all clubs within our Zone were visited by myself and Brian O’Keefe, ensuring that the

workload involving the inspection of club green was a shared effort.

Brian visited and inspected club greens in the Northern region whilst I was responsible for those in

the South.

Our thanks to the greenkeepers of the 23 clubs for their ready assistance and advice during these

inspections, it certainly was appreciated.

On behalf of Brian and myself thank you to our greenkeepers for their efforts in ensuring all greens

were maintained to the standard required.

Chairperson – Greens Committee.

Umpires Report 2017/2018

We would like to thank Windang Bowling Club and Figgy Bowlo for the use of their rooms to hold

our monthly meetings.

The new system for Accreditation and Re-accreditation is in place it has taken some time to

implement the system with Presenter- Assessors to be in place before exams could take place we

have six (6) Presenter- Assessors in the Zone, The new system is a Competent based system as the

old system was a more knowledge based , Candidates who are competent will pass the exams which

there are three sections Marker, Measurer and Umpire there is no cost to the candidate as this is paid

by the Zone 16 (This includes Law book, Officiating Manual, DVD C.O.P. All paper work)

Any person or Club who have a problem with the interpretation of the laws of Bowls or the

Condition of Play please contact us and we will have somebody help you with this

Since the new system has been in place we have had ten (10) Markers and Seven (7) Umpires who

have been through and complete there course it was pleasing to see all candidates go through and

join us, We have 148 Umpires and 18 Markers in Zone 16, Any person who like to become an

Umpire please contact us

TREASURER’S REPORT FINANCIAL YEAR JUNE 2017-MAY 2018

Income over Expenditure gave us an operating profit of $20264 compared

with $10347 last year.

Sponsorships of $19890, $12190 up on last year, mainly contributed to the

increase in profit.

Expenditure exceeded income in Zone Rep Matches, and Zone Championships

but these were within expectations. The South Pacific Carnival also showed a

loss and both Zone Championships and the South Pacific showed a marked

downturn in registrations mainly from our own Zone clubs. Prizemoney for these

tournaments are excellent so it is imperative that our local players support them.

Administration Expenses were reduced by $1441.

Affiliation fees were increased for the 2018-2019 year by 1.9% (CPI) in line with

the resolution passed by Management meeting after no increase last year.

All other incomes and expenditures were in accordance with our expectations.

I can assure you all that our Association is financially sound going into the future.
