54 Task Force Health Care | Annual Review 2017
01
I proudly present to you our Annual Review 2017 of the Task Force Health Care (TFHC). Once again, last year was a special year for the TFHC. With the support of our partners we not only continue to improve healthcare but it also enables us to connect the right people.
When it comes to Life Sciences & Health (LSH), there is more than enough work to be
done. Worldwide we have mutual challenges, such as affordability, accessibility and
quality of almost everything we are dealing with in our daily work. So what is smarter
than confronting them with smart solutions? We strongly believe that our challenges
can only be addressed when all partners in the LSH-sector work together; the industry,
knowledge institutes, NGO’s, healthcare providers and the government, not only
nationally but also internationally. To succeed in addressing shared challenges we are
proud that TFHC-partners are willing to share knowledge and cooperate together. Step
by step the Dutch Topsector LSH and the TFHC are improving healthcare throughout
the world.
Looking back on my first year as chairman of the TFHC, we can conclude that we have
organised and developed a wide variety of activities for the Dutch LSH-sector. For
example our trade missions to Colombia, Kenya, United Kingdom, United States and
United Arab Emirates. Additionally, we represented the Dutch LSH-sector through the
successful Holland Pavilions on well-known trade fairs such as MEDICA, Hospitalar
and Arab Health. In order to follow up new contacts, we welcomed a large number
of delegations to the Netherlands coming from China, Germany, Poland, Indonesia,
South Africa and many more.
In the past decade we have proudly seen our LSH-sector climb to the top of ‘Dutch Top
sectors’, with worldwide recognition as a result. In presence of Her Majesty Queen
Máxima we celebrated this success during the second edition of the World of Health
Care (WoHC). This international LSH-congresstival, especially for key players with a
global view, is an important milestone of our growing international success!
All in all, we look forward to another successful year and I hope, together with the
TFHC-team, to welcome you to one of our upcoming activities.
Len de Jong Chairman Task Force Health Care
Preface
76 Task Force Health Care | Annual Review 2017
JanuaryHolland Pavilion Arab Health | UAEWith 10 participating Dutch organisations the Holland Pavilion provided an excellent
opportunity for international professionals to meet Dutch LSH experts. This year,
aside the well-known Holland Pavilion, the TFHC and the Dutch consulate general in
Dubai jointly organised several activities on healthcare innovation. A crowded Dutch
networking reception and a seminar on Healthy Living which featured a variety of
speakers to further promote healthy living and discuss how to combat child obesity.
Among others the Director General of Curative Care of the Ministry of Health, Welfare
and Sport in the Netherlands Bas van den Dungen and a delegation of the Dubai Ministry
of Health shared knowledge and best practice cases on preventive and curative care for
children with obesity.
The Task Force Health Care (TFHC) supports and facilitates companies and organisations in international business. Through various TFHC activities business opportunities arise which are normally hard to expose. Besides trade missions to many countries, the TFHC regularly receives incoming delegations and together with the Dutch Topsector Life Sciences & Health (LSH) unifies in a Holland Pavilion at medical trade fairs. Furthermore, TFHC develops various promotional and marketing activities to promote the Dutch LSH sector on a national- and international level.

06 | Facts & Figures
Number of PartnersAfter a restart in 2008 TFHC experienced a healthy growth
(Dec. 2017: 144 partners) in the last years. Currently, the TFHC
represents a total of 61.986 FTEs and a total turnover of €31.9
billion. While maintaining the quality of its national- and
international network, the TFHC aims to continue this growth
curve and intensify its position as a knowledge centre for the
Dutch LSH sector in general and TFHC partners in particular.
Despite the fact that the TFHC network grows in diversity,
simultaneously more cohesion is being created. Various
‘strengths’ and ‘chains’ of the Dutch Life Sciences & Healthcare
sector are becoming more and more visible. For example, the
growing number of eHealth companies, knowhow in the field
of ‘public health’ issues, expertise in the field of elderly care,
rehabilitation and home care, and not to mention the field of
medical devices. The Dutch LSH sector is estimated at more
than 2,900 organisations (companies, NGOs and research
institutes etc.) of which over 70% is active in international
business. Meanwhile, TFHC national- and international
activities have facilitated in excess of 500 LSH organisations
in the past 8 years.
Number of FTE’sDespite very limited resources TFHC always strives to deliver
the highest quality of service. Not the financial valuation,
but the enthusiasm of the team, the board and in particular
the partners forms the driving force to create a transparent
and supportive platform.
Number of ActivitiesProportional to the growth in enthusiasm, FTEs and the number
of partners also the amount activities is increasing. Last year, 32
TFHC activities took place including:
2 General Partner meetings, 4 Holland Pavilions , 8 Outbound
Missions and 10 Incoming Visits. In addition, TFHC hosted the
second edition of the World of Health Care. In the impressive
Fokker terminal (The Hague) around 680 healthcare
professionals from large and small companies, care providers,
NGOs, knowledge institutes and government visited the event to
discuss challenges in accomplishment of international business.
Moreover, TFHC has been present in a various other conferences,
seminars and other activities on national- and international
level to represent the Dutch Life Sciences & Healthcare sector
and to promote the interests of the TFHC partners.

TFHC FinanceThe TFHC is a public-private partnership and is privately initiated
and financed. The TFHC receives no structural financial aid.
However, the TFHC is regularly commissioned by the
government to organise activities beneficial to the Top Sector
LSH (especially SMEs). Despite being a foundation, the TFHC sees
herself as a “social enterprise” which is financially self-sufficient
in a sustainable manner within the framework of its mission.
For several years the TFHC enjoys a solid and healthy financial
status. Maintaining this healthy structure during expansion is
key to the management and board of the TFHC. Additionally,
the TFHC anticipates on opportunities that arise in a constantly
changing environment in which the needs of the partners in
relation to the ‘mission’ maintain the starting point.
In 2017, the TFHC generated a total revenue of
€1.440.336.00,- the corresponding table provides
a display of the revenue sources.
TFHC Online Last year, the focus on online presence was intensified with the
completion of a new website and customised webpages for
TFHC Platforms. By intensifying marketing research and social
media activities positive results have become clear with regard
to online presence. This approach will therefore be continued in
the coming years.
