We are calling the garden “The Growing Place.” The idea of growing is a part of our new purpose statement: “To be a welcoming and growing church, as we share God’s love in the community and meet the spiritual needs of our members.” As a garden takes many things to help grow, so does the church. This year we hope to raise additional funds that will help our church continue its ministry but also grow its ministry. Stewardship letters were mailed on October 16th and we hope that our members and friends will contribute moneys that will help us grow, but also, we will need workers to give their talents and skills to help St. Philip grow too. Soon we will be offering a skills survey which will help us understand the skills and abilities that members and friends might offer to our ministry. Please prayerfully consider , not only the tithes and offerings you can give, but also your talents and skills that you might want to offer. We will be celebrating our offerings on November 5 th at 12:30 with a catered meal from Spring Creek Barbeque. Please make a reservation for this special meal by October 27. You may make reservations by calling the church office at 817-282-9181. REFORMATION SUNDAY This year St. Philip will be celebrating Reformation Sunday on October 29 during the 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. worship services. This year is a special year to celebrate the Reformation because 500 years ago, on October 31, 1517, a Roman Catholic priest, monk, composer and professor of Theology Martin Luther nailed 95 theses on a door of a church in Wittenburg Germany. Luther didn’t want to leave the Roman Catholic church, but to reform it. In these theses Luther challenged the pope, the selling of indulgences and certain policies. From this bold act and other priests who wanted to reform the Roman Catholic church in other countries, the Protestant Reformation began. Presbyterians come from other Reformers; Huldrych Zwingli and John Calvin, but all these reformers were trying to reform the Roman Catholic church. On Sunday October 29th we will hear more about the reformation and some of the beliefs that came from this major shift in the church. We hope to see you there as we will have special music from a bagpiper.

Note of the Week from Joshua Brown… The Chancel Choir is beginning to work on music for Reformation Sunday, All Saints and Advent. They have done a marvelous job preparing their anthems each week. Christmas will be here soon and there is a lot to prepare. It is an exciting time! I am grateful for their continued faithfulness in addition to their musical gifts.

The Youth Chime Choir will be performing in worship for both services on November 5 and are making great progress. There is plenty of room in that group for any of our youth that would still like to join. Our rehearsals are at 4 PM each Sunday. The Adult Handbell Group just performed in worship on October 8th and did a fantastic job. Their hard work shows!!

Now is a great time to join one of the musical ensembles at St. Philip. We would love to have you join us! You can fill out our online registration form at www.tinyurl.com/stphilmusicregistration or email me at [email protected]. I hope you will consider being a part of the Music Ministry here at St. Philip as we lift our songs and grow in Christ together. Blessings, Josh
