ABOUT THE PERFORMINGGROUPS
ELJWB
The school's jazz ensemble, the members of "EUWB" are selected byaudition in mid-October from intereste{j students that play saxophone, trombone, trumpet, guitar, piano, and drums. Throughout the year, students perform a wide variety of music including jazz, rock, andmusic of popular nature. EUWB performs frequently at banquets, school assemblies, dances, and other events in the community.
WIND ENSEMBLE
The high school Wind Ensemble was first formed six years ago, in orderto better enable the more advanced student a better opportunity toexplore some of the best literature suited for high school players. De-signed so that in most cases there is only one person on a part, eachmember's contribution is necessary and vital to the group, and accuracyof playing, in addition to fine intonation and tone production are es-sential to the overall sound of the ensemble.
The Wind Ensemble performs annually at most school assemblies, in-cluding the Honor Society Tapping Service, the Christmas Assemblies, and Commencement.
Each year, in March, the Wind Ensemble participates in the Ohio MusicEducators Association District Band Competition. Having participatedthe past four years, the group has earned a II rating in 1975, and re-ceived I ratings at the district level in 1976, and 1977. The groupalso earned distinction for itself by receiving the I rating at state levelcontest, both in 1976, and 1977. The Wind Ensemble participates inDistrict Contest this coming Saturday, March 11 at Upper Arlington.
CONCERT BAND
The Concert Band is formed in November, following the marching bandseason. Membership and seating is determined by audition.
The Concert Band performs annually at the Instrumental Concert andthe Music Fair, and provides the student an opportunity to further de-velope playing skills essential for the performance of band literature.Ninety-nine students, grades 9-12, participate in this year's group.
For the first time in the history of the concert band, the group willparticipate in the District Band Competition, Saturday, March 11.
