How Can Data Managers Lead Risk Based Clinical Development? After an unexpected earthquake and tsunami, Japan is now gradually restoring itself back to its original way of life. What can we learn from such experiences? Clear and quick decisions are vital when unexpected events occur—which is why it is essential for data managers to have a mitigation plan in place for all possible disasters.
The objectives of this annual meeting are to improve the quality of trials and provide ideas for data management activities. This annual meeting will deliver information about the Japanese clinical data management processes, as well as opportunities to meet and network with colleagues in clinical data management. While globalization and regulation are harmonized internationally, increased developmental periods and cost are becoming a concern. Companies are facing many challenges involving cost reduction, outsourcing, off shoring, etc. Our role in Clinical Data Management must correspond to changes in these environments by promptly delivering reliable clinical data to stakeholders, such as internal customers, regulatory agencies, and patients. Many discussions in the industry have highlighted the importance of implementing global trials from scientifi c viewpoints. However, data management operations still need to be a fundamental component of our future.
In Session 5A, speakers from companies including Pfi zer, Novartis, Astellas, Takeda, Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma and Eli Lilly will address their current CDM operations and their role in global trials, database and data fl ow, SOPs, standardization, data repository, resource management, education, etc.

クリニカルデータマネジメント・ワークショップは、今回で第15回を迎
えることとなりました。国際的な専門会議として、初心者から上級者ま
でのできるだけ幅広い方々に、ご興味を持っていただけるような様々
な内容の講演を計画中です。日本は予想もしていなかった規模の地
震と津波、それに引き続いた事故などを経験しました。そして今、少し
ずつではありますが、着実に復活への道筋を進んでいます。この経験
から私達が学ぶべきことは何でしょうか。想定できること全てに対策を
立てることだけではなく、想定外の事態が起こった場合の対応を素早
く明確に判断できることこそが大事なのではないでしょうか。そこで、
これからCDMがどういうアプローチをしていくべきなのかを考えるた
め、今回のテーマを設定させていただきました。
本ワークショップは、臨床試験の質の向上およびデータマネジメント活
動へのアイデアの提供を目的としています。本会議に参加することに
より、日本の臨床データマネジメントプロセスの情報や、臨床データマ
ネジメント分野の人脈作りの機会が得られます。 各セッションでは下

グローバル化が進み、薬事規制が国際的に整備されていく一方で、開発期
間の長期化、開発コストの高騰が課題となりつつある。また、経費削減、
アウトソーシングやオフショアリング等が進んでいく中で、信頼できる臨床
データをより早く社内、規制当局、患者さま等のステークホルダーに届ける
ためには、データマネジメントの役割も環境の変化に対応したものでなけ
ればならない。このような中で、グローバル試験の実施において、試験デザ
イン、被験者選択や評価基準等のサイエンティフィックな観点からの課題は
これまでに議論されてきた。しかしながら、効率的に試験を行うためのデー
タマネジメントのオペレーショナルな課題については、未だ議論の余地が
ある。
セッション5Aでは、内資系製薬企業３社（武田薬品工業、アステラス製薬、
田辺三菱製薬）および外資系製薬企業３社（Pfi zer、Novartis、Eli Lilly）から
日本と海外、Working Modelなど、いくつかの視点から現在のデータマネジ
メントについての役割について発表をする。各社で実施されているデータマ
ネジメントについてのオペレーション、Global TrialでのCDMの役割、業務の
進め方、データベースやデータリポジトリ―、標準化、リソースマネジメン
ト、SOP、教育などを紹介していただき、オペレーショナルな課題について
も提示する。
