The dedication was very well attended as many of the workers and the family’s friends showed up to wish them well in their new house. The family is very grateful to the entire CtBS family because they now can raise their family in a safe and affordable home. With this hand up, the family be- comes just like the majority of us: paying a mortgage, home maintenance to do and property taxes. To be eligible for a house, the family must contribute sweat equity hours to either Habitat (office/ restore) or another build. The number of hours is 275 for a single parent house- hold and 500 for a two parent house- hold. The family must also complete classes in finance (budgeting), home maintenance, and nutrition. If you’ve never been to a dedication, please join us. It is truly an uplifting experience to see the joy in the faces of the family. Please check the CtBS website (www.CatchTheBuildingSpirit. com) or your bulletin toward the end of the summer for dedication information. It is usually at 10 a.m. the Saturday after Labor Day if you want to block the hour now for next year’s dedication.

Another Successful Build

Although Mother Nature was at-tempting to wash out this year’s dedication, she took a break long enough for the dedica-

tion of Jean and Patrice Claude and their five children’s house to be dry and successful. The dedication was very well attended as many of the workers and the family’s friends showed up to wish them well in their new house. The family is very grateful to the entire CtBS family because they now can raise their family

in a safe and affordable home. With this hand up, the family be-

comes just like the majority of us: paying a mortgage, home maintenance to do and property taxes. To be eligible for a house, the family must contribute sweat equity hours to either Habitat (office/restore) or another build. The number of hours is 275 for a single parent house-hold and 500 for a two parent house-hold. The family must also complete classes in finance (budgeting), home

maintenance, and nutrition. If you’ve never been to a dedication,

please join us. It is truly an uplifting experience to see the joy in the faces of the family. Please check the CtBS website (www.CatchTheBuildingSpirit.com) or your bulletin toward the end of the summer for dedication information. 2 Catch the Building Spirit Fall 2014

Catch the Building Spirit Receives Grant from Bike and Build

Bike and Build, a program that introduces young adults to the affordable housing cause, has

awarded a very generous grant to Catch the Building Spirit. In the letter announcing the grant, Bike and Build stated “our riders identified your organi-zation as having strong potential to im-pact the affordable housing landscape in your community while involving young adults in these efforts. Our program is

unique in that the trip participants them-selves decide where their fundraised dol-lars should go. After all, they were the ones who worked so hard to raise it!”

Catch the Building Spirit consid-ers itself blessed that the young adults who stop and work at our build site every year provide good hardworking volunteers to our building effort. We were doubly blessed last year when we had two different groups make a stop in

Dayton and volunteered on our house. The grant reinforces the effort the board has made to include young adults in the building of our house. If any young adult group is interested in volunteering, please contact John Belt at [email protected] for more information. For more information regarding Bike and Build, go to www.BikeAndBuild.org.
