Spring is here!: A letter from LCRC
President Tammy Gramlich
Dear Lewis and Clark Members,
This will be my last article as President.
I will become Past President and continue
to be involved in the Board, helping the
new Co-Presidents. The last two years as
President have been an excellent oppor-
tunity for me to meet and collaborate with
many educators. I have gained new
friendships, innovative ideas, and treas-
ured experiences.
I would like to welcome our new Co-
Presidents, Kim Winter and Savannah
Dill. Kim was Vice-President and has
been President in the past. We welcome
her experience in this role. Savannah is a
talented teacher to be. She recently re-
ceived the Lindenwood – Belleville Edu-
cation Student of the Year. In addition,
Savannah has presented at the IRC Read-
ing Conference, and was acknowledged
for being the only student board member
in the IRC. Congratulations Savannah on
your accomplishments! Any school will
be lucky to have you as a teacher and we
wish you luck in finding your teaching
job.
Our Council, along with the Illinois
Reading Council, will be sponsoring some

portunities. We hope you can join us at
these upcoming events:

author Jennifer Ward (details on pg. 2)
April 14th – Eckert’s Restaurant

I look forward to these events and
hope to see many of you there. I highly
recommend becoming involved with Lew-
is and Clark. You will be happy you did!
Sincerely,
Tammy Gramlich

We would like to thank the O’Fallon Library for hosting this fabulous event! We had five authors in attendance and a great
crowd to hear their stories. Here are just a few snapshots from that event!
NEW BOARD MEMBER NEEDED We would like to thank Alisa Cole for her dedication, serving the Lewis
and Clark board since 1990. We wish her the best upon retiring from
teaching and beginning a new journey in her life. She has been serving
as our Family Literacy Chairman and we are in need of someone to re-
place her. Alisa had been working with Books for Babies. We donate
book bags to the maternity wards at hospitals mainly serving low income
families. Each bag contains a book, copies of nursery rhymes, helpful
tips for reading to children, and reasons why reading is so im-
portant. Alisa had help from her church youth group stuffing the bags
for the new mothers. This provides a wonderful service for new moth-
ers and is a way for us to stay involved in the community. We welcome
new ideas for this. If you have an interest in heading the Family Litera-
cy Committee please contact Tammy at [email protected].
ADDITIONAL BOARD MEMBERS WANTED In addition to Alisa’s position we are also looking for other educators
that would be interested in helping on our board or as a committee lead-
er. If you are interested in helping the board in these areas, please
contact Savannah at [email protected].
