Barges: The mandatory Barge Traffic System permits efficient container terminal scheduling for a fast handling of container barges.

How can the Port of Antwerp assist you in your postponement strategy?The port has more than 5.5 million square metres of covered storage, 6.3 million cubic metres of tank storage and almost 700,000 cubic metres of silo storage capacity. It also offers highly specialised facilities to meet all your product specifications: in bulk or in container, dangerous goods, with temperature controlled warehousing if necessary. The logistics service providers in the port can provide all value added logistics services for differentiation according to your customers segmentation. 

How big does my consignment have to be to benefit from the value-added services?Value-added logistics are an important part of the service offer of the business community at the port of Antwerp. Smaller container volumes are consolidated into bulk, bulk consignments are broken down into smaller quantities.

Do you want to import chemicals into the EU which do not yet have a final customs destination?Thanks to our bonded ware-housing system you can store the goods for an unlimited period; you don’t have to pay VAT and Customs dues until the goods have been delivered to your customer in the EU. In the meantime you are al-lowed to provide value-added services, processing the goods according to the requirements of your customer.Most warehouses, tanks and silos in the port come under this bonded warehousing system, which moreover can be combined with other inter-esting Customs arrangements.

Do you import chemicals with the aim of processing in the EU for further export outside Europe?In that case you can make use of the Inward Processing procedure, under which pay-ment of import duties and VAT are postponed.

Do you import chemical components into Europe on which the import duties are higher than on the end product?No problem: thanks to the Processing under Customs Supervision procedure you only have to pay the import duties and VAT on the end product.

Are you deterred by the high deposit that has to be paid on excise goods?No need: there is a cap on the excise deposit payable on goods imported into the EU.

Transparent supply chainsThe Antwerp Port Community System (APCS) centralises all electronic systems for the exchange of data between all the supply chain players in and around the port, and between these players and the various authorities.This network of systems and solutions ensures highly efficient transfer of goods and data, offering full transparency of all links in your supply chain.

Perhaps you’re not familiar with the Customs procedures for shipping goods to the EU? No matter: the Antwerp logistics service providers know them intimately. Furthermore the cost-efficient procedures within the port mean that VAT, Customs dues and excise don’t have to be paid immediately. Thanks to the customer-oriented Customs procedures it is no longer necessary to pay a deposit in order to offset VAT payments for import flows.
