Anudeep Batchu

Anudeep Batchu is a student at the Martin J. Whitman School of Management majoring in

finance. Anudeep’s interest in finance and business has come from his love for technology. Initially

wanting to become an engineer to work in the technology sector, it became clear that his skills were put to

better use in business and using technology to improve businesses and streamline operations. His father’s

work experience in American Express, Ally, and Bank of America has provided Anudeep insight in the

financial sector. He learned how technology and finance come together in his father’s work through

projects like mobile payments and that showed him that he can follow his love of technology and finance.

After arriving at Syracuse University with the honor of being a Dean’s Scholarship recipient,

Anudeep truly discovered himself as an individual by learning what he wants to do and that is to

understand the markets. He understood that his skills in math would be better utilized in Finance in the

Whitman School of Management than as an engineer. He is now able to evaluate technology from the

perspective of a business and see the practicality of new ventures as well as the excitement that surrounds

the latest tech.

Having worked 25 to 30 hours per week during the fall 2012 semester at the UPS Store, Anudeep

learned how to effectively manage his time and still be successful as a student. He got promoted to

assistant manager and oversees the new staff, marketing ideas, and day-to-day operations. Outside of the

classroom, Anudeep is involved in the Indian community at Syracuse University and takes part in the

many cultural events that take place in the Syracuse community. Anudeep will be serving on the

Executive Board for The South Asian Students Association as an advisor starting in the Fall 2013

semester and will be providing new ideas to attract members and raise awareness on the university

campus. He also is an active member of The Syracuse University Investment Club and views that as a

great learning experience as well as a place to voice his opinion on the markets. He learned how to

present his thoughts to a group and how to effectively research information.

Anudeep hopes to achieve his goal of a career on Wall Street once he graduates from Syracuse

University. He is always looking to be challenged and looks for new and innovative ways to solve

problems.

Benjamin was introduced to budgeting and finance when his father helped him open his

first savings account at the age of six and taught him the value of saving and investing his

money. He has actively pursued his interest in finance and investment ever since. Benjamin grew

up in Israel and moved to Seattle, Washington at the age of 15. Upon his arrival in Seattle,

Benjamin worked tirelessly to accustom himself to life in the United States. Benjamin started a

friendly financial competition with his new high school friends using market simulation

software, an activity that helped him make the cross-cultural adjustment. The competition also

increased Benjamin’s understanding of the stock market, investing and effective budgeting.

Upon Benjamin’s arrival at Syracuse University in 2011, he joined the Syracuse

University Investment Club, a student run organization that manages over $150,000. Benjamin is

also a member of the Delta Sigma Pi professional fraternity. He is currently responsible for

allocating the fraternity’s funds as a member of its finance and investment boards. In addition,

Benjamin has held professional internships in business development, marketing and consulting in

both the United States and Israel. These internships have contributed to his wide array of

interpersonal, communication and cross-cultural skills.

As a Junior Analyst with the Orange Value Fund, Benjamin will bring innovative

perspectives to the team based upon the skills and knowledge he has acquired through his

professional internships and international life experiences. He looks forward to participating in a

Joe C. Chan

Prior to attending Syracuse University, Joe lived in Hong Kong for eleven years and was exposed

to finance at an early age. His first exposure to finance was when his grandfather gave him his first

allowance and encouraged him to save a portion of it and invest the savings in the future. As Joe grew

older he got curious as to where he should invest his money and looked into the stock market. The

ever changing and competitive nature of the financial services industry intrigued him due to his hunger

for knowledge and his competitive personality. Since his freshman year at Syracuse University, he has

been actively been pursuing his goal of working on Wall Street through taking on financial leadership

roles on campus and being an analyst of the Orange Value Fund.

Joe recognizes the importance of academics and is strongly committed to exceling in the

classroom. While also contributing to the extracurricular organizations that he is in. Joe is an active

member of his fraternity, Theta Chi, and is currently serving on the Executive Board as Treasurer. He is

responsible for budgeting the dues received from members as well as seeking sponsors for philanthropic

events hosted by the fraternity. Joe is also currently serving as Treasurer for the Hong Kong Cultural

Organization. Through these financial leadership roles, he has developed strong interpersonal,

decision making and leadership skills.

From March 2013 to June 2013, Joe interned at Diversified Wealth Strategies and analyzed

mutual funds through Morningstar based on ratios that the partners assigned such as alpha, beta, Sharpe

ratio, and net expense ratio. Through this internship, Joe created fiduciary scorecards based on the

partners’ criteria on spreadsheets across different sectors and altogether allowed the advisors of the firm

to screen the most viable mutual funds to invest on behalf of their clients.

Joe believes that through his leadership roles, internship experience and Orange Value Fund will

help him land a summer internship with an esteemed firm in the summer after his junior year. His

competitive nature, passion for finance, dedication to work hard, and attention to detail are the keys to his

drive to succeed both in and out of the classroom. Upon graduation, his goal is to land a full time position

in an esteemed Wall Street or Hong Kong firm for asset management.

Andres “Emmett” Diz

If someone ever asked Emmett what his passions were in life he would quickly respond two

answers: finance and the environment. The desire to learn more about each area started at a young age

and has led him to the Martin J. Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University to study finance

and managerial accounting, while working for a minor in renewable energy on the prestigious SUNY ESF

campus.

Emmett completed his first year of schooling and is expecting to graduate in a three years time.

He credits this opportunity to graduate early on the hard work he put in during his years of high school,

which allowed him to start at Syracuse University with 33 college credits. During this time Emmett was

also running his own lawn mowing business, which he founded at the age of 12. This business has been

one of Emmett’s most prized accomplishments as it provided the many traits he currently expresses in the

college environment including his dedication, work ethic, people skills, and attention to detail.

His six-year business also provided him with available funds to invest in his own Schwab

account. Emmett uses the value investing technique to invest and since the account’s opening in 2006 it

has nearly tripled in value. Emmett also received investing experience by being active in the Syracuse

University Investment Club. He helps manage a $145,000 portfolio by pitching potential investment

ideas and voting on potential holdings. Emmett is always interested in learning different techniques of

investing that his peers present. He has also had the benefit of being elected secretary of the club, which

has given him more interaction with the investments, and offered to be the renewable energy research

officer to exploit his interests and provide more possible investment ideas to the group.

Emmett is perceived as a strong leader on campus. He was picked out of 125 people to be apart

of the 28-member association of OrangeSeeds. OrangeSeeds is organization of first year student leaders

that organize the largest day of community service on campus. It is a prestigious opportunity and

provides experience working with other to achieve an important goal.

Emmett hopes to leverage his many qualities to join the financial industry where he can combine

his two interests, and knowledge, of both renewable energy and finance.

Eric Fitzgerald

Eric is a junior pursuing a double major in finance and accounting at the Martin J.

Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University. After attending Siena College for three

semesters where Eric earned placement on the President’s and Dean’s List, he transferred to

Syracuse University to fulfill his academic aspirations in financial studies. The Orange Value

Fund and Ballentine Investment Institute were primary factors in Eric’s school choice, as he

understood the value of the educational opportunities they provide.

Since the age of 3, Eric has played for several competitive ice hockey teams in multiple

cities where his leadership skills and strong work ethic have flourished in the fast paced, high-

pressure environment. These elements of ice hockey are seen in the classroom as Eric’s drive for

excellence consistently prevails. Eric’s passion for finance is a product of his ability to work

tirelessly in a field where his talents will be demanded. Eric’s proactive character has him

consistently taking advantages of learning opportunities outside of the classroom. With a 2.8%

rate of acceptance, Eric was admitted to attend Bloomberg’s 2013 Analytics Summer Boot Camp

in New York City, where he received comprehensive training on Bloomberg terminals from

Bloomberg’s financial sales and analytics professionals.

During the summer of 2013, Eric worked as an intern at GELRAD, a global consulting

firm headquartered in Clinton, NY that specializes in Lean and Six Sigma (LSS) deployment and

training. He worked closely with the executive team daily on business development strategies,

which included offering LSS classes and simulations. Eric worked in a management position

where he was responsible for all sales and marketing relevant to business development ventures.

The simulations and classes were attended by various firms recruited by Eric who were interested

in learning about how LSS can be used to eliminate waste and variation within their internal

processes.

With an accounting background and a strong understanding of business processes

packaged together with unmatched work ethic and attention to detail, Eric is confident that his

experiences have positioned him to excel in the financial industry. Upon graduation, Eric hopes to

pursue a career in investment banking or corporate finance.

Joseph “Joe” Morgan

From a modest beginning in Jamesville, a small suburb of Syracuse, New York, Joe Morgan has

never been afraid to do what is necessary to achieve his goal of gaining a career in finance. After two

years of schooling at Le Moyne College, a smaller school in Central New York, Joe learned that if he

were to chase his dream of making it to Wall Street, it would require hard work, active engagement with

the financial world, and transferring to the Martin J. Whitman School of Management at Syracuse

University in order to study finance and accounting.

Since transferring to Whitman, Joe has come to greatly appreciate the concept of risk and reward,

which strengthened his interest in the application of that concept in the financial markets. After risking

extra time to complete his bachelor’s degree, thousands of dollars in tuition to make up for lost credits,

and possibility of failure in attaining a position in financial services in New York City, Joe has reaped the

rewards of scholarly excellence as well as involvement with crucial work and extracurricular

opportunities such as the Orange Value Fund. His passion for the financial world coupled with his strong

work ethic has helped him to maintain a 4.0 GPA while working as both an Analyst for the Orange Value

Fund, LLC and a Consultative Sales Associate at Sears. These opportunities have taught him the

invaluable skill of time management; bolstered his abilities to work both alongside others on team

projects as well as individually; and given him confidence, poise, and integrity in managing client

relationships.

The comfort and enjoyment that Joe experiences while working face-to-face with clients has

given him a strong desire to pursue a position in sales once he begins his career in New York after

graduating, and in the meantime he has eagerly accepted any opportunity to hone his skills there. He was

recently selected by Whitman faculty to participate in Deloitte’s FanTAXtic competition, in which he was

placed in a team with other students and given a time-sensitive case study to determine a firm’s tax

liability in lieu of crippling liability payment owed from a court case, and how the firm’s prospects for

success were affected going forward. Joe and his team travelled to Deloitte’s NYC tax headquarters and

used their analytical skills and communicative abilities to present their findings to their clients in a

conference that involved both face-to-face and video communication.

Elmer Luke III

Elmer, an Ohio native, studying finance and economics at Syracuse University, became interested

in finance at a young age. His interest in the financial markets was sparked by a merit badge requirement

in Boy Scouts. Curiosity led to Elmer to read and learn more on this topic. Whether it was a sleepless

night at his computer or reserving and searching through 30 to 50 books at a time from the local libraries

he was determined to understand more about the movement of stock prices.

Passionately, Elmer proceeded to read more not only on stocks but also on stock options,

currencies and commodities. A product of learning financial markets in a recession era, Elmer has

developed an interest in macroeconomics, and has analyzed investment ideas from both a top down and

bottom up approach. In markets becoming ever more globalized, macroeconomic events have become

salient in any investment analysis idea. Aside from the fundamentals of the company or industry, Elmer

has used technical analysis to confirm his idea, using this in his personal portfolio of stocks.

Upon arriving at Syracuse University Elmer used his previous knowledge and joined the Syracuse

University Investment Club, immediately becoming involved as a financial sector and currency market

analyst. As a freshman, Elmer contributed to the conversation often looking at macroeconomic headwinds

that he believed would be overlooked and recommend his ideas to the investment club. Currently, Elmer

serves as the clubs’ Portfolio Manager.

Recently, Elmer has been researching futures spreads and pairs trading. He has analyzed energy

commodities, interest rate, and agricultural commodity spreads looking primarily at seasonal data,

business cycles, and global demand and supply for goods and how it affects future prices. As well as how

interest rates effect currencies exchange rates, and economic demand in countries contributing to growth

or contraction. All the while, looking to see how these actions affect business and stock prices. After

graduation Elmer aspires to work in investment banking. His long term goal is to work in the hedge fund

industry.

Benjamin Uhing

Benjamin Uhing is a junior enrolled in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management at Syracuse

University. His passion for finance and investing came from discussions with his father about the market

and deciding together which securities they should invest in for his college fund. Ben ventured from the

Midwest to Syracuse University to ultimately transition to a future career in finance on the East Coast.

Ben takes great pride in his academics and has been on the Dean’s List every semester while

maintaining a strong 3.78 GPA. While at Syracuse University, Ben has developed multiple tools

including teamwork, communication, and analytic skills, which will be beneficial for his career in

business. Ben has been awarded the Chancellor’s Scholarship for his continued academic achievement

and is also a member of the Renee Crown Honors Program.

Beyond the classroom, Ben is involved in many other activities at Syracuse University. He

demonstrates his leadership skills by being a peer facilitator for first year management students by serving

as a liaison between students and faculty. He is also Vice President and starting middle blocker of the

Syracuse Men’s Club Volleyball team, which finished fifth out of 48 teams at the National Club

Volleyball Tournament in 2013. Ben’s competitive drive was exposed in high school where he was the

varsity team captain of state championship winning cross country and basketball teams. He plans to take

the love of competition he learned through sports into his professional life.

In addition to the skills attained through academics, extracurricular activities, and athletics, Ben’s

work history has provided him with valuable and well-rounded business experience. Working as a sales

intern at an Anheuser-Busch wholesaler, an advertising representative at Syracuse University’s Daily

Orange student newspaper and as a management trainee intern at Enterprise Rent-a-Car, Ben has

developed valuable customer service, sales, and management experience through multiple business

outlets.

Upon graduation from Syracuse University, Ben plans to pursue a career in either asset

management or investment banking where he can put his competitive drive and strong work ethic to use

in a fast paced work environment.
