A Note from Our Principal These are critical years for students in elementary school. We are trying to prepare them

with basic foundational skills and for the real world. The educational environment must

be conducive to learning (i.e. students displaying exemplary behaviors, a diligent effort,

not distracting others and good attendance for staff and students). When any of these

factors are off the teaching and learning in the building is adversely affected. Our focus is on learning, so

student behavior is important. We want our students to be a success in a peaceful and engaged

environment. Please discuss the importance of learning with your child.

For the upcoming months, we have many events going on and it will be May with the blink of an eye. To

stay on top of those events, please make sure that you are visiting our school’s website

(www.southpointeelem.com ), checking your child’s backpack, and like our Facebook page

(www.facebook.com/southpointeele/ ). We are looking for parents to participate in our school’s School

Improvement Team. If you are interested in helping us make decisions for the school, please let me know

because together we can do great things at South Pointe Elementary.

It is our #1 focus to make sure our students are academically successful and you are a part of that process.

We are trying to communicate with you in multiple forms. We have a new way to communicate the

updates and events with you. See the last page of this newsletter to see how you can get text messages

with those updates.

My door is always open to you. Please do not hesitate to call me for any concerns or questions. Always let

me know how you feel and I would like any suggestions you may have. We are in this together!

#GriffinPride! -- Success is the only option for our students.

Monthly Behavior Record

To ensure that there is consistent communication between the

school and the parent, your child will bring a behavior report

home daily to record their behavior. This calendar will indicate

the following:

The students daily behavior clip chart color

The student’s academic understanding of the daily lesson.

Teacher/Parent Comments

Positive Behavior Intervention Support

Starting on 8/7/17 our school will use a school-

wide clip chart system. All students will be taught

the rules and procedures with aligned expectation

lessons for all areas of the school.

PBIS daily color zones are:

(Griffin Scholar) purple

(Focused Learner) blue

(Ready to Learn) green

(Make Better Choices)

(Refocus-Think about It) orange

(Talk about a Consequence) red.

All students begin their day on Green as a “Focused

Learner”. Each student is expected to follow the

basic expectations according to the school’s PBIS

Expectations Matrix while the staff utilize

appropriate interventions for the behavior

displayed by students. The ultimate goal is for the

students to have the opportunity to correct their

K-5 Behavior Clip

Charts

Please see Mr. Russell or our school website for more information.

The focus of this program is acknowledging and rewarding students for

consistent positive behavior. The Griffin Bucks serves as a positive behavior

recognition to encourage our students to demonstrate PBIS’s core values on

a consistent basis. Earned Griffin Bucks may be redeemed once a month in

the PAYD store for a variety of items such as food, clothing, school supplies,

bikes at the end of the school year and much more. Students not following

the core values Griffin Magic are issued consequences based on our student

response system, which list the steps of consequences for each time a

behavior infraction occurs.

What are GRIFFIN BUCKS?

(Recited daily by our students)

I am a student of South Pointe Elementary School. I am here to learn. I am a scholar. I

will do my best every day. I believe in myself. I will go to college.
