Gold Of My Own comprises musician and producer Chris Pedley and vocalist Vanessa Freeman. Pedley and Freeman have been collaborating since 2000, previously with Pedley’s band, The Baker Brother’s. Following a hiatus, this new collaboration brings together a fusion of soul, funk and jazz under the name of GOMO and the launch of their debut album Mondo Romance in 2015.

CHRIS PEDLEY
Pedley is a Liverpudlian who has made the south coast his home. Pedley comes from a
musical family, his sisters are classical musicians, and while he appreciated the genre it
wasn’t his passion. Pedley cites his musical influences growing up in the first instance as
the rock and roll pioneers; Chuck Berry, The Beatles, Buddy Holly, James Brown. Pedley
learned to play guitar, bass and keyboards as a child, which he bolstered with academic
qualifications in music.
When talking about influences in his life, he mentions a host of people from his college
teachers to the drum and bass scene he was into as a teenage, to Brian Wilson from the
Beach Boys. By 19, Pedley was a full-time recording artist and performer. His musical
taste and performances moved into soul and funk in his 20s. However, Pedley is a very
eclectic musician, he continues to look for new sounds and inspiration in his writing and
compositions, particularly from his large collection of vinyl which he uses as a source of
interesting sounds to sample - African field tapes from the 50s & 70s are his current muse.
Pedley’s production highlights include credits on Quentin Tarantino’s film, Django
Unchained, Ubiquity Records and all of The Baker Brothers back catalogue. Pedley
produced nine albums for the Baker Brothers and has also produced albums
for other bands.

GOMOSince having gained international recognition in their own right, Vanessa and Chris decided that the time was right to re-establish their musical partnership and finish what they started nearly 15 years ago. Freeman describes Gold Of My Own as music that is alternative yet still has Soul. While on the face of it, it would seem quite a clash of cultures, but both Pedley and Freeman agree on the importance of making the connection with the audience, it is the music that brings them together to make something special that is, Gold Of My Own.
COLLABORATIONS & APPEARANCES…Festivals: Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party, Larmer Tree Festival, GOMO played at the Barbican in Nov 2015.
VANESSA FREEMANSinger/songwriter/Producer /Band Leader / Vocal arranger. Her musical narrative comes from London streets to her parent’s Jamaican hometown, Red Hills. Freeman cites her parents as her greatest musical influence. Her home was filled with the sounds of Reggae, Soul, Gospel, County and Folk. Growing up Freeman sang in Gospel choirs, school bands and performing Arts at school. Freeman lists her singing influencers as, Sarah Vaughn, Dee Bridgewater, Tammie Terrell, Aretha Franklin, Mal Jackson, Renee Geyer, Gladys Knight, and Joni Mitchell.
