Whatever your reason for considering hypnotherapy, I recommend the Valerie Austin course most highly.

Over many years, Valerie has developed techniques that I can only describe as ‘back to basics’. Her

methods are without frills or ‘psychobabble’. Simple basic techniques but incredibly effective in treating a

wide variety of client issues.”

The content and the pace of the course was excellent and very inspiring. And I would have no hesitation in

recommending this course to anyone who has an interest in hypnotherapy.”

Jenny O’Kelly, The Fertility Concept

“DO THIS COURSE – you will learn everything you will ever need and more!

The most ‘effective’ use of hypnosis I have ever seen! It is lightning fast and gets straight to the heart of the

problem, without any useless information that gets in the way usually. Every topic of interest to the would-

be hypnotherapist is covered and many myths are laid to rest, once and for all. Never before had hypnosis

been presented in such a clear, precise way as well as being an enjoyable but life changing experience!”

MISTAKE NUMBER ONE BUSINESS & MARKETING SKILLS

The first major mistake is made when it comes to the very

foundations of creating a successful hypnotherapy practice it

concerns BUSINESS SKILLS!

If you’re serious about running a successful hypnotherapy practice, my No. 1

piece of advice is to RUN IT AS A BUSINESS! In other words, do what few

therapists bother with — mastering the skills of business marketing.

One of the main issues with any business is trading your time and expertise for

money, and not actually producing something tangible in return for payment, is

that other people may not take you seriously and possibly think you have all the

time in the world to use your skills for little or no money. The secret to

overcoming this belief in others is not believing it yourself. The old saying ‘teach

people how to treat you’ is very important and needs to begin with you by not

giving away your time at a low or no cost.

There have always been hypnotherapists that charge very low

prices, but that should not interfere with your pricing. In fact,

research has shown that low prices affect success rates and

encourage time-wasters. This is because clients may not fully

commit to the therapy or have the correct belief structure in

place... the therapy becomes WORTHLESS

Hypnotherapy is a vocation that needs to be taken very seriously by both the

hypnotherapist themselves and the people around them. It is a profession, not a

hobby. You are potentially saving peoples’ lives and or many years of distress –

this is serious business. If you treat it like a hobby then potential clients, friends

and family will do so as well!

Building up a successful hypnotherapy practice is like any business where you

work for yourself. It can be hard work and if you want to earn a good living from

it, then you will need support.

Make sure you do it right. Learn from the most common mistakes I’ve see over

and over again, and some essential tips I’ve picked up over the last 20 years.

A ‘bad’ therapist can make excellent money if they are skilled at marketing, but a

‘good’ therapist has little chance of bringing the business in to survive if they

don’t have any business sense.

If you want your practice to survive and thrive, you have no option but to learn

about marketing and business.

INVESTING IN YOUR BUSINESS & MARKETING SKILLS

Business and marketing skills are

most definitely worth investing time

and money in.

Many people become hypnotherapists

because it is a vocation and they are

very good at it, but neglect other skills

that are equally as important if they

are to succeed.

I have just picked 3 areas that are

important and given you a few tips to

get you started. There are, of course,

many other areas within sales and

marketing that are worth investigating.

We will be covering this very important area at the Austin Advanced

Hypnotherapy Conference 2013 with my hand-picked marketing specialists;

they will most definitely be able to help you fast-track your success.

For now, let’s take a look at...

“The initial setting up takes time and a huge amount of effort which

needs to be kept up if the practice is to grow and flourish. The

majority of hypnotherapists may be technically good at their therapy,

but do not have any business experience. Running a practice is no

different to any other business - it needs to be branded, promoted

and marketed. I am always shocked (by many hypnotherapists) at

the lack, not only of expertise but sometimes basic common sense.”

David Samson, Avanti Hypnotherapy.

Useful advice from one of my extremely successful therapists who commutes

between his home in the South of France and his busy practice in Harley Street.

>>> THE WRONG LOOK VS. PROFESSIONAL IMAGE

A wrong ‘look’ can spoil an otherwise well constructed advert and waste your

money. You may like the picture of yourself you have chosen or the attractive

waterfall etc. but it’s just not bringing the clients in. You should think about a

head and shoulders picture with a neat hairstyle (which can still be attractive)

and a classic suit with a white shirt or blouse. People will feel comfortable with

the professionalism and respond to the advert.

When I was in full practice in at the beginning of my

career I would wear my business suit (black with

white shirt) even when I was socialising for a drink

after work. I looked the part of a therapist and people

would feel comfortable at asking me for advice and

many times book in for therapy. This is what I would

call “no cost advertising”.

One of my highly successful therapists was very

good at advertising her therapy, but she decided to

include a very nice picture on her marketing

materials that she particularly liked. It was very

flattering, but the clothes were too casual. When I

suggested she make it more professional, the results were astounding. She had

a third more calls each week, just with a simple change.

TOP TIPS

A more formal head and shoulders picture of you is important,

with a neat hairstyle and a classic suit with a white shirt or

blouse. People will respond if you present yourself

professionally. You need to look the part.

Invest in having a professional photograph taken with your hair

and makeup to compliment the look you want to achieve.

A professional photo is important for both men and women.

When the photos are being taken, imagine your busy practice

and the smiling faces of the clients you will be helping. You will

be surprised how this comes across on your marketing

materials. Energy that you cannot see, but projects through the

photos, will bring the clients in.

>>> THE WRONG PLACE: NEWSPAPERS AND INTERNET ADVERTISING

Although the internet is a large part of promotion, you can still use newspaper

advertising. Believe it or not, some people don’t

have computers! It all depends on who your target

clients are.

You should check it out by placing 6 ads in the

same publication, rather than one or two. It takes

repetition and commitment for people to get used

to you and feel confident. Building a brand takes

time and investment - it is a shame to pull out too

early and not give advertising a chance.

Be careful where you place your ads. It is no use putting your advert in the

classified section of your local paper with the sexy masseurs. Always go for the

women’s page and stay away from the TV page - that is usually a dead loss.

Also beware of adverting in magazines or on TV at doctors surgeries. I have not

found any magazines to be too successful unless it includes a well written

feature about your therapy.

TOP TIPS

On the Internet you will have to do your homework on how to

get traffic, although we will have experts to help you at

September’s conference.

Watch out for the numerous companies promising to do this for

you. Many companies claim to represent Google or Facebook,

however they don’t. There are some good companies, but they

are hard to find. If you do decide to use one, make sure they are

a trusted recommendation. However, a lot of the ways you can

use to help drive traffic to your website are free, such as article

marketing and social media.

SEO and social media is something you can do yourself. There

is plenty of information available on the internet about getting

people to your site. And I am bringing some experts on this area

to September’s conference, who will be sharing some great free

and low cost traffic-driving ideas with you.

>>> THE POWER OF PR

Paid for advertising is not the only way to get into the press.

PR IS AN INCREDIBLE WAY TO BOOST BOOKINGS, TRAFFIC TO YOUR

WEBSITE AND YOUR CREDIBILITY.

Articles and stories on your work,

illustrated by real life case studies

can really help put your business on

the map.

The most successful way is to contact

the press regularly. This takes

confidence and guts. But that is what

hypnosis is for, so practice what you

preach and have some therapy for it.

Just phoning up a few news papers and not getting anywhere is not what I

mean. You need a consistent approach. Make friends with the local

journalist and call when you have something interesting that will match a current

story in the paper. For example, someone famous using hypnosis to lose

weight, stop smoking or clear a phobia. Do not delay on this as waiting a day to

call will make it old news. So keep a watchful eye on the news.

THE IMPORTANCE OF CONTACT DETAILS!

If you ever get interviewed or provide an article make sure that your contact

details are in the paper, or magazine your feature is appearing in! Don’t just

take the journalist’s word; make it a ‘stipulation’. If they say they cannot do

it, remind them that they are getting a free editorial and that all the main papers

will allow you to put your contact details in. A telephone number is still very

important, as it may be an impulse call. However, your website is also important,

but you need at least one way of contacting you.

If you get on well with the journalist they will try to get both of your contact

details in the article. But even so, A CALL TO REMIND THEM NEARER THE

TIME of publication is prudent. I was a journalist and published my own

magazines, and so I know how easy it is to forget to put the contact details in.

I had my first article in the major newspaper with the headline, “I Can Stop You

Smoking in one Hour” and had 168 bookings in the first day it was published.

Moreover, that one article eventually lead to over 500 bookings, and kept me

busy for the rest of the year.

www.austinhypnotherapyconference.com

This is how I made £100,000 in my first year in 1990. That was considered a

lot of money at the time - a ‘very’ high salary was £50,000. Today it would

probably be worth in the region of £350,000, so you can see the impact of a

small mistake. If they hadn’t printed my telephone number there would have

been few calls - if any. Remember in 1990 there was no internet for people to

Google my name and get my details.

Without the details, you can lose an awful lot of business. When my book,

‘Hypnosex’ was released, the Daily Mirror printed their 3-page spread complete

with phone-in promotion 2 weeks early. It was a disaster, the book had not yet

been released and I was in Malaysia at the time. This was before email and

internet access and my agent had lost my Mayalsian contact details. I later

found out there were over 6,0000 CALLS FOR THE PHONE-IN AND

ESTIMATED LOSING ABOUT £250,000 ON THAT MISTAKE.

The press can make or break your career. I personally have had over 70

major articles in my hypnosis career. And I have made it part of my 7-day

diploma hypnotherapy course, to show you how you can too.

There is so much more to learn, but this at least will help you prepare yourself

for not missing out on the press.

TOP TIPS

You could have a superb double-page spread in the media, but

if your contact details are not included you could lose thousands

of pounds. You do not want a feature where nobody knows how

to contact you.

If you are not prepared and do not have the phones manned in

case your telephone number IS included in your feature, you

could also lose many bookings. This is often an area that is

overlooked. A missed call is a missed opportunity for earnings.

Make sure you keep in contact with the journalist, as they are

only human and very busy. They may forget the promise of

including your contact details in their rush to meet the deadline,

so make sure you contact them in time and casually remind

them. Also, by being helpful you’ll move up their list for who to

contact when a hypnosis story comes in.

If it is the main press there may be a delay in publication and

you may get caught out. Generally they can give you an idea of

when it’s due to be published, but be prepared for any

eventualities.

MISTAKE NUMBER TWO MINDSET

The second mistake that I want to talk about is ‘Mindset’.

One important thing that determines a hypnotherapist’s success, if not ‘the’ most

important thing is SELF-CONFIDENCE. Deep-seated problems that haven’t

been resolved can erode self-confidence.

Poor self-confidence can destroy the client’s

belief system in the therapy and in you.

Once the client is in a state of hypnosis,

there needs to be complete rapport with the

hypnotherapist. The heightened sensitivity

enables the client to read the hypnotherapist

more easily, which doesn’t occur in a

conscious state. It is highly likely that the client will pick up on any ‘baggage’ that

maybe undermining the skill and technique to create any successful results.

If the therapist has problems with lack of self-esteem, guilt, feelings of

inadequacy, it will definitely affect the image they project. They can’t expect the

client to put their full confidence and trust into someone who doesn’t fully believe

it themselves and their own ability as a hypnotherapist.

This lack of worth or self-confidence may reflect in the price they charge

and can cause resentment when they see other therapists charging higher

fees. This will only serve to further undermine their own self-worth.

Every business has to have customers, even

hospitals, and like any other business there has to be

revenue. The nurses and doctors maybe super caring

but they need money to pay their bills as well. They

have a basic salary to take care of their living

expenses. When it comes to your ‘value versus your

income’ then life is far simpler for someone on a

regular salary. But for anyone who makes that

decision to work for themselves they leave the luxury

of a regular salary from an employer behind.

Page 15: “How to Create a Successful Hypnotherapy Practiceaustinhypnotherapytraining.com/Austin3MistakesReport.pdf · the Austin Advanced Hypnotherapy Conference – September 2013 (more

www.austinhypnotherapyconference.com

Hypnotherapists are self-employed and have to fend for themselves. They have

to constantly bring in clients and earn enough money to see them through the

weeks when business is slow or even non-existent.

NO CLIENTS = NO INCOME

A big mistake that hypnotherapists often make, and I have put this under

‘mindset’ for a reason, is their inability to ‘value’ what they do and to have

the confidence to charge a proper fee for their services.

A doctor or nurse doesn’t feel bad about being paid. If they are promoted

they expect a decent rise. The payment is a level of their worth. Incredibly I

have had CEO’s and top executives who have trained

on my courses charging a minimal amount for very

skilled hypnotherapy. It is something that is

unexplainable, but this is the NUMBER ONE

REASON why a large percentage of hypnotherapists

end up having to leave their love of hypnosis and get

a regular job.

If you are short of money you may spend valuable

(client) time on worrying, which affects your ability to

get clients and do good therapy. Conversely you may

be charging too low prices and, or seeing too many

clients in a week, resulting in ‘burn out’. This means

neither your clients or you are happy with the results.

Hypnotherapy is a profession that stands alone. Generally, most training

courses do not prepare you to find clients, and so there is little money coming in.

You may feel guilty about charging a substantial amount for your therapy, but

perhaps after reading this report I hope that you come away with at least one

change in mindset and this is your real value as a hypnotherapist.

>>> “GO ON THEN, I’LL LET YOU HYPNOTISE ME”

How many times have you talked to people at length at a social occasion or a

workshop? They have been fascinated at what you do only to say to you “Go on

then, I’ll let you hypnotise me”. My stock answer is, “Yes, I can but I’m

expensive.” This would quickly let them know I was in a serious practice and it

isn’t a free service, then I would give them my card. I always have my picture

on my business card so they would remember who I was and the picture helps

as a reminder.

www.austinhypnotherapyconference.com

Remember! Be careful not to bore people in a social environment or

you won’t be very popular, so timing is as important as confidence.

Just one final thought when it comes to your self-confidence when it comes to

your hypnotherapy practice. Hypnotism was originally called ‘mesmerism’ and it

was in existence over a hundred years before psychology even became an

academic discipline. So mesmerists and hypnotists were treating and curing

people and performing anaesthesia for painless surgeries before psychology

came on the scene. It is only in fairly recent times that the term hypnotherapy

has been used (rather than hypnotist which just means therapy in hypnosis).

>>> AN AURA OF CONFIDENCE

Old-style hypnotists were pictured with an aura of ‘power’ (even with compulsive

wide-eyed stares!). In reality this is only an aura of absolute self-confidence

projected onto the client. You must

project an aura of confidence both

before and during the hypnosis. Any

stray negative thoughts that could

affect your self-confidence, even whilst

using the best techniques, can ruin the

therapy and your success rates will

drop considerably. It is, therefore,

important to work on your mindset and

self-confidence which of course is

easy with the help of self-hypnosis.

Remember! Take care when you are looking to improve your skills;

whether hypnotherapy techniques or marketing and business skills. It is

important to learn from someone who is well-known for offering quality and

results. In this way, your self-belief will increase and along with it your

confidence

MISTAKE NUMBER THREE SKILL SET

Many hypnotherapists start out by experiencing hypnosis as a client. When they

first researched it, with the intention of training, they probably found it was very

easy to find affordable courses. Cheap and quick courses are advertised all

over the place with some offering diplomas after only a weekend, while others

offering on-line training. This may work with

other disciplines, but with hypnosis it’s the

equivalent of taking a driving test on-line.

Be sure that you have researched the course

and the credentials of the trainers carefully. If

you are not properly trained, then this will only

serve to undermine your progression as a

competent and qualified hypnotherapist.

You are often going to deal with clients who are in a vulnerable state. You owe it

to yourself and to them to make sure your qualifications are of the very highest

standards. When choosing your training school, make sure your do your

homework on your trainer’s background.

TOP TIPS FOR CHOOSING A TRAINING SCHOOL – ASK...

How long has your trainer been teaching for?

Have they had their own successful practice?

How years were they in full practice before becoming a trainer?

Have they written books published by major publishers? (Beware of self or small publishers)

What research backs-up your trainers techniques?

Clients often consider hypnosis as a ‘last resort’ after trying other interventions,

including medication and years of traditional psychiatry or psychology. Phobias

for example, generally cannot be ‘cured’ using conscious reasoning. They are

generally rooted in the subconscious and only hypnosis can dig deep enough to

find the deep-seated cause of the problem.

When trained correctly you can see a remarkable change in a client after just

one session. Learning and growing your skills as a hypnotherapist delivers

tremendous personal rewards. You feel you’ve made a real difference with your

work. Even having a smoker going from 20-a-day to not wanting to light up is an

amazing achievement.

>>> MY RECOMMENDATION

My first years were very busy and I would have at least 4 new clients a week

that were referrals. The real secret of my therapy

(apart from ’Stop-Smoking-In-One-Hour’) is using

the wonderful hypnotic tool of age regression to

get to the root of the problem. And in my courses I

teach the skill, which is in the form of a set

protocol. It is what I call ‘idiot proof’ and I feel that

my practitioners finish the course as a specialists

in hypnosis with this tremendous skill at their

fingertips.

If any therapist, or worse any trainer, says that they don’t believe you need

regression then it is usually because they themselves cannot do it, or they have

tried it and failed due to clumsy methods or even worst they were taught badly.

Regression is the purest form of permanent change with a high success rate,

which is simply not possible with other types of hypnosis and has been used in

hypnosis for over 100 years.

The one thing that I have found is with very good training you have maximum

enthusiasm, and it lasts throughout your career. You still, of course, need all the

marketing and business skills as well!

When enthusiasm and passion is combined with

excellent therapy and marketing skills, you can create a

very lucrative practice and give your clients the very

best. You can also afford the best training by being

successful, so it becomes a self-fulfilling cycle of

achievement and success.

For a regression therapist an ideal number of clients is

around 15 a week at the beginning of your business

and then scaling down to around 12. This would earn

sufficient income to have a happy and healthy life, whilst giving the maximum

attention to your clients.

TOP TIP FOR CHOOSING THE RIGHT COURSE

Make sure your training includes excellent regression therapy or you will not see the transformations that my therapists and I see with all our clients. Sometimes, people go through their whole lives plagued by unfathomable problems that no amount of conscious therapy can resolve. They visit an Austin-trained hypnotherapist skilled in regression and the root of the problem is identified and the problem disappears.

I want to finish off this free report by talking to you about the most fantastic

opportunity to come to the UK with regards to hypnosis and hypnotherapy. I

have created a fantastic opportunity for all hypnotherapists here in the UK; an

event where you would not normally have access to the calibre of confirmed

guest speakers and access to their in-depth training. I have been able to entice

the best of the best to come and share their deep wealth of knowledge,

expertise and success.

‘The Austin Advanced Hypnotherapy Conference’

London - September 14th

and 15th

2013

WHY YOU SHOULD BOOK A SEAT AT THE HYPNOTHERAPY CONFERENCE?

This is a superb opportunity to up-skill in all the areas I have outlined in this

report. Most importantly I have hand-picked every speaker attending this event.

You will have the opportunity to hear from the best of the best during this

fantastic and unique weekend.

Every expert has reached a very high status in their area of expertise.

REPUTATION, REPUTATION, REPUTATION – PROOF, PROOF, PROOF

Reputation is often a good indication of quality. Just like good therapists, people

recommend trainers according to the results they get from the training.

However, sometimes this can work in reverse. There have been some really

good hypnosis trainers with a bad reputation through terrible business practices.

As I said before, longevity is also a factor to consider. Good trainers are

normally well established in the marketplace and have years and years of

practical experience with clients before turning their hand to training; but there is

no need to worry about any of this just attend the conference on 14th and 15th

September 2013 and you will be able to learn from the very best!

I have bought together THE BEST in the field of hypnotherapy to give you

and INCREDIBLE IN-DEPTH TRAINING all under one roof over one

weekend!

So, can you afford to miss out?
