“FOUNDATION”

Matthew 7:24-28

Therefore, whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise

man, which built his house on a rock. (Matthew7:24)

Jesus parable was centred on the wise and the foolish builders, one built his house on the

rock, right foundation and the other on sand, the wrong foundation.

They were both builders who chose different materials to build.

They each had a different outcome of events.

Jesus said, whosoever hears these sayings of mine and does them will be liken to a wise man

building his house on a rock.

By implication, it’s not everyone that has the ability to hear what Jesus is saying to us this year.

It is also worth knowing that not everyone that hears His sayings will do what He says.

God gives listening ear and the willingness to do what He says depending on the individual.

To be considered wise by heaven is to hear and do what He says to be done.

Such a person is likened to a man building his house on a rock.

The house in this story is our life.

A wise man is expected to take heed to the warning instructions from the Master and do as

he is told.

If a skipper of the huge ship refuses to listen to the instructions from the skipper of the light

house, it’s possible that his boat will capsize because he failed to take heed to the warnings.

Anyone considered wise in the record of heaven are those who have ability to hear what God

is saying and willingness to do as commanded.

Because they heard and obeyed His instructions, they will be protected when the flood and

storms of life come as they do sometimes without warning.

Psalm 119: 130 says the entrance of thy words gives light, it gives understanding unto the simple.

Every child of God must have understanding of His Word and it’s His Words that makes us

wise.

Psalm 119:133

Your steps can only be ordered by His Word so that iniquity will not have dominion over you.

On the other side, Jesus said of those who hear His words and do not do them, they shall be

likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand.

Brethren, what foundation are you going to build upon this year?

Jesus gave examples of two types of foundations:

Rock or Sand.

One is solid, and the other is porous

One is stable, and the other is unstable.

One will stand the test of time while the other will crumble at the slightest pressure.

One can stand storms, the other will collapse at the first appearance of rain.

One structure is solid and firm, the other structure is weak and feeble.

One can withstand all weather, the other cannot stand the test of time.

It does take time to build on the rock while building on sand is quick and easy.

The builder on the rock would have considered all weather conditions possible, while the

builder on the sand only thinks of one pattern of weather.

As we can see from this analogy that they both built with intent, but their outcomes are not

the same.

It’s imperative that we obey the words of God this year and do them in order to enjoy His

glory.

God told David to move from Ziklag to Hebron after making an enquiry about which city to

move to. David did not just move to any location without asking God first.

To enjoy glory will require absolute obedience on our part and total dependency on Jesus.

The Bible says, if you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good of the land.

Isaiah 1:18

Our complete obedience to His words will guarantee our glory.

God led the children of Israel by the cloud of glory, and when they rebelled against Him, He

allowed them to waste away in the wilderness.

May we never waste away in the wilderness of life. Refusal to obey the words of God can be

costly and dangerous.

Sometimes, the storm comes unannounced.

The parable of the builder on stone and sand illustrates the uncertainty in our world of today.

It is cheaper to build on sand, quicker to complete but that building will not stand the test of

time because the builder did not use durable materials.

Make the Word of God your material and don’t depend on cheap alternatives that will not

stand the test of time.

Sand is not durable and neither is it enduring

Sooner than later, it will subside and be pulled down by wind or storms.

The builder on the rock must have spent a lot of money, efforts and energy, and it would have

taken longer to complete, because the builder is building a structure that will withstand the

test of time and all sorts of weather, such a building will withstand any eventuality.

Jesus is the solid rock upon which every believer must build on.

1 Corinthians 3:11-15

Every man’s work will be tested by fire. if your work abides after the fire, you will receive a

reward, but if it be burnt down, you will suffer loss.

This year, we should resolve to hear from the Master ourselves and do all His instructions. It’s

only then that you are considered wise and you will attract His presence.

You cannot enjoy His glory without enjoying His presence.

Exodus 33:18-19

Moses desired to see the glory of God, but rather God, made His goodness pass before him

and proclaimed His name.

2 Corinthians 3:18 - When we behold His glory, we are transformed into the same image,

from glory to glory by the Spirit of the Lord.

This year, know for yourselves the sayings of Jesus and do them.

Don’t build your life on lies told by others, deception by the devil, fake doctrines and human

philosophy, not even your own intellectual ability.

Build your house on the rock, who is Jesus, upon His words, principles and His life.

Prayer: May the glory of the Lord surround you and all your family members in this new year as

you strive to hear and obey Jesus all the way in Jesus name, Amen. Shalom!

Father, I thank You for sparing my life and that of my family to witness another year in the

land of the living.

Lord Jesus, I praise You for Your favour, goodness, mercy, love, protection, peace benefits and

provisions for past years in Jesus name.

Father, I praise You for daily loading me and my household with Your benefits throughout
