The summer heat is ON! It is a blessing to have warmer days in which to play and to work outside and to minister in God’s kingdom work. There is so much to do in ministering to others. I’m thankful that we can serve the Lord… in the HEAT or in the COLD! AS we turn the calendar page to July, it becomes very obvi-ous that our church activities are still at a minimum. We would have been preparing for our summer Mission Trip, for our annual Vacation Bible School, and other weekly student and children’s events. But we are still emerging from the COVID-19 quarantine and the various restrictions that were placed upon our work. However, new and exciting days are ahead as we seek to reach these young people for the Lord Jesus. So, pray that God will give us wisdom and discernment in the coordination of activities designed to minister to children and to students. It has been a blessing to come back to church each week with God’s people! We are able to be cautious and clean as we gather and fellowship and worship together on Sundays and Wednes-days. I’m thankful for the good efforts of our Bible teachers to pre-pare and to host their small groups each week. It is so important that God’s people assemble and study the Word to find direction and encouragement regularly! God bless each one who makes the effort to attend our Bible classes! This month begins with our focus upon these United States of America. The July 4th holiday is possible because our forefathers envisioned and fought for and stood up for a free, open society built upon self-governing laws and the drafted Constitution. We must never forget our history and our heritage! Let’s each work for the continuance of freedom, justice and liberty for all… God bless the USA! I love my country, I love my church family, and I love you.

Are we really already in July? It seems like this year has just gone straight by us (which I am not complaining at all due to COVID-19). The Humphres family would like to say Happy Fourth of July to our Church family as we celebrate another year in this great country that we live in! Francis Scott Key wrote The Star-Spangled Banner on September 14, 1814 on the back of an envelope. We all know the first stanza of the song, but do you know the last? “Blest with victory and peace, may the heaven-rescued land Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a na-tion! Then conquer we must when our cause it is just. And this be our motto: “In God is our Trust.” And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.” After sunrise, the British released Francis, and back in Baltimore he wrote out this hymn in fuller form and showed it to his brother-in-law, who promptly gave it to a printer who ran off handbills for distribution on the streets. One copy land-ed in the hands of an unknown musician who adapted it to the tune “To Anacreon in Heaven.” So was born the patriotic hymn that was to later become our national anthem. Let us re-member the freedom and sacrifice that has allowed us to live in this great country that we call The United States of America!
