II. Abstract Amid the merger agreement still pending between Xerox Corp. and Fuji Xerox in the office

equipment industry, Xerox Corp has made a new move, by which the company may be selling itself to any entity but Fujifilm by becoming a wholly owned unit of a new holding company. Nonetheless, the market structure wouldn’t change much with any company merging with any other company. Naturally, there’ll be advantages and disadvantages for individual makers, but none of them will help the market grow; rather, the office equipment market is being invaded by the inkjet equipment makers. However, whether the inkjet equipment market will grow or not simply depends on which business between the laser and inkjet products can bring in more profits than the other for makers and dealers that hold the market share. A user-friendly business attitude could never convince makers nor dealers to solely distribute machines that make them little money. If that’s the case, can the spread of the inkjet machines for office use possibly do harm to their businesses? This is also an unattractive business for components suppliers. Makers in the

electrophotographic industry have already been operating based on policies to save themselves, which naturally affects the components industry very significantly. Major components makers may even be forced to lower retail prices or scale down unprofitable business units. Their investments have been slashed, suppliers have been narrowed down, and some components units have been shut permanently one after another. Some makers of charge rollers, intermediate transfer belts, and fuser belts have already

withdrawn, and it’s becoming more evident to see businesses go on a much smaller scale or get even closed at a faster rate among makers of developer rollers, transfer rollers, heat rollers, and pressure rollers. Japanese components makers face not only strong demands to force down costs from hardware

machine makers but also a larger number of South Korean and Chinese makers handling genuine components. When it comes to most innovative fusing components, pressure rollers and heat rollers are particularly competitive for survival. Against this harsh backdrop, the 2019 version of the market report aims to comprehensively
