Principal’s Message Well, another awesome year is coming to a close at St. Ursula. They say, “Time flies when you are having fun”, so I guess that explains it. Our school continues to be an exemplary place to work and to learn. We are blessed to have an incredible, hard-working staff of educators who genuinely care about your children. I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to all of our parents, incredible volunteers and Parent Council for their support, encouragement, and assistance during my time here at St. Ursula. We would like to celebrate and recognize all of your wonderful work at our Volunteer Appreciation Tea on Friday, June 12th at 11:30 a.m. in the Library. I would also like to thank our students for their enthusiasm and positive attitudes. The students have embraced a growth mindset and a belief that anything is possible with dedication, effort and perseverance. Just keep swimming! On behalf of the staff, please accept our best wishes for a safe, happy and relaxing summer! To those families who have ‘graduated’ or will not be with us next year, ‘Good Luck and Best Wishes!’ God bless, Ingrid McEachen St. Ursula Newsletter JUNE, 2015 St. Ursula Catholic School 215 Livingston Rd. Guildwood Day Parade

Saturday, June 6

St. Ursula School will participate in the Guildwood

Day Parade again this year. St. Ursula community

members are encouraged to join our PALs leaders,

Eco-Heroes and Student Council as we march

together behind our banner representing our school.

The parade is the kick-off to the annual Guildwood

Day. Participation involves community groups,

businesses, local leaders, politicians and of course,

the creative individuals who decorate their bikes,

scooters, vehicles and themselves to celebrate our

wonderful community here in Guildwood Village!

Join in the fun as we cheer and celebrate the theme of

the Pan Am Games! We will meet at 10 a.m. at

Laurier Collegiate.

Lego/Math Night

Play Day We are looking forward to our annual PLAY DAY!

This fun-filled event takes place on Tues. June 23rd.

A number of exciting activities are being organized

by our grade eight students as the students compete in

their TRIBES teams.

Volunteer Tea: June 12 Our CSAC has been very dedicated and diligent in

their efforts again this year to fundraise and spearhead

many wonderful initiatives. One of those experiences

involved substantially subsidizing a visit by the entire

student body to Ripley’s Aquarium. The journey

through the aquarium included an underwater tunnel

weaving through the gallery to see the home of many

different species of sharks, barracudas and moray

eels. It was an amazing opportunity! Thanks, CSAC!

We are thankful to our volunteers who assisted with

our morning meal program, Santa’s Goodies and

Gifts, pizza lunches, bricks, gardens, basketball and

driving to various sports events. Kudos to all of these

community and parent volunteers! We hope to see

you at our Volunteer Tea on June 12th at 11:30 am. Primary Soccer Every Thursday, beginning in January, the primary

students have been playing soccer in the gym. They

have been enjoying playing as team vs. team, each

team being a different country ranging from Canada

to the Philippines. The primary students had lots of

fun playing with their friends against other teams. A

special thanks to Ms. Baker, Ms. Causi and Ms.

Sanna for organizing it and a special thanks to Nanle,

Dylan, Erik and Aidan for refereeing.

Jump Rope for

Heart

Our students enthusiastically enjoyed

this special event on Friday, May 29th.

Supporting children’s health for more than 30 years,

Heart and Stroke Jump Rope for Heart encourages

kids to get active by skipping rope while they collect

pledges for heart disease and stroke research. We

encourage the students to return the pledge forms as

soon as possible.

Our Leaders Attend Camp Olympia The grade 8 leaders from St. Ursula had the incredible experience of attending this year’s Camp Olympia

Leadership Camp held in Huntsville from May 3rd to May 5th. To prepare for this leadership camp, students

had to work collaboratively and rise to the challenge of creating a school banner, a lip sync mash up

performance, warm fuzzy containers, and a school cheer. Over the past few weeks, our dedicated grade 8

leaders worked hard to complete the leadership tasks and the results were amazing! The theme for this year’s

Camp Olympia was the Avengers. Similar to the superheroes of the Avengers, student leaders are called to

action, to stand up for positive change, encourage and help others and act as role models in our schools.

Through various leadership workshops, games and collaborative activities, students were able to develop old

and new skills in becoming better, more empowered leaders and networking with like-minded student leaders.

Our student leaders left Camp Olympia with a greater knowledge and self-confidence to make a difference at

St. Ursula, our community and the world! We are very proud of our St. Ursula grade 8 leaders for stepping up

to the challenge and demonstrating school spirit.

Track & Field Track and Field was an exciting event again this school year as we earned much success during our

participation in the divisional and regional meets. Congratulations to all of our athletes, in particular, Nanle,

Brandon and Nancin. These 3 students qualified and competed strongly in the City Final Meet at Varsity

Stadium. A very special thank you to Mr. Frost and Ms. Baker for their organization and to the many coaches

who assisted the students in their events!

Brandon sets a new

TCDSB record for

Gr. 3 boys 100 m!

An amazing 2nd place

finish for Nanle!
