Jesus, Jesus, Holy and anointed One, Jesus.

Jesus, Jesus, Risen and exalted One, Jesus.

Your name is like honey on my lips, Your Spirit like water to my soul, Your Word is a lamp unto my feet, Jesus I love You, I love You.

Jesus, Jesus.

Confession of Sins Leader: Almighty and merciful God, Congregation: We have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep. We

have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against your holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; and we have done those things which we ought not to have done. O Lord have mercy upon us. Spare those who confess their faults. Restore those who are penitent, according to your promises declared to the world in Christ Jesus, our Lord. And grant, O merciful God, for his sake, that we may live a holy, just, and humble life to the glory of your holy name. Amen.

Assurance of Forgiveness Leader: Through Jesus Christ forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. In

Christ we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace.

    Congregation: Thanks be to God.

Old Testament 1 Kings 3:4-15 ESV 8:15am Ray Ohlaug

    11:00am Gina Josephson

4And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place. Solomon used to offer a thousand burnt offerings on that altar. 5At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night, and God said, “Ask what I shall give you.” 6And Solomon said, “You have shown great and steadfast love to your servant David my father, because he walked before you in faithfulness, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart toward you. And you have kept for him this great and steadfast love and have given him a son to sit on his throne this day. 7And now, O LORD my God, you have made your servant king in place of David my father, although I am but a little child. I do not know how to go out or come in. 8And your servant is in the midst of your people whom you have chosen, a great people, too many to be numbered or counted for multitude. 9Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?”

10It pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this. 11And God said to him, “Because you have asked this, and have not asked for yourself long life or riches or the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern what is right, 12behold, I now do according to your word. Behold, I give you a wise and discerning mind, so that none like you has been before you and none like you shall arise after you. 13I give you also what you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that no other king shall compare with you, all your days. 14And if you will walk in my ways, keeping my statutes and my commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.”

15And Solomon awoke, and behold, it was a dream. Then he came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and offered up burnt offerings and peace offerings, and made a feast for all his servants.

    Epistle Ephesians 1:3-14 ESV

3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love 5he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, 6to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. 7In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, 8which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight 9making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ 10as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.

  • 7

11In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, 12so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. 13In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

    Holy Gospel Luke 2:40-52 ESV

40And the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom. And the favor of God was upon him.

41Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover. 42And when he was twelve years old, they went up according to custom. 43And when the feast was ended, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents did not know it, 44but supposing him to be in the group they went a day's journey, but then they began to search for him among their relatives and acquaintances, 45and when they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem, searching for him. 46After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. 47And all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. 48And when his parents saw him, they were astonished. And his mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us so? Behold, your father and I have been searching for you in great distress.” 49And he said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?” 50And they did not understand the saying that he spoke to them. 51And he went down with them and came to Nazareth and was submissive to them. And his mother treasured up all these things in her heart.

52And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.

The First Article of the Apostles Creed with Explanation All: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. Leader: What does this mean? All: I believe that God has made me and all creatures; that He has given me my body and soul, eyes, ears, and all my members, my reason and all my senses, and still takes care of them. He also gives me clothing and shoes, food and drink, house and home, wife and children, land, animals, and all I have. He richly and daily provides me with all that I need to support this body and life. He

defends me against all danger and guards and protects me from all evil. All this He does only out of fatherly, divine goodness and mercy, without any merit or worthiness in me. For all this it is my duty to thank and praise, serve and obey Him. This is most certainly true.

Children’s Message Sermon Song: “Once in Royal David’s City”

Once in royal David's city Stood a lowly cattle shed Where a mother laid her baby In a manger for His bed Mary was that mother mild Jesus Christ her little Child

He came down to earth from heaven Who is God and Lord of all And His shelter was a stable And His cradle was a stall With the poor and meek and lowly Lived on earth our Saviour holy

Jesus is our childhood's pattern Day by day like us He grew He was little weak and helpless Tears and smiles like us He knew And He feels for all our sadness And He shares in all our gladness

And our eyes at last shall see Him Through His own redeeming love For that Child so dear and gentle Is our Lord in heaven above And He leads His children on To the place where He has gone

Sermon: “Welcome to Worship” 1 Kings 3 We know Solomon asked for wisdom – but for what purpose? To govern the people. It is impossible to govern unless we distinguish right from wrong. Just as parents teach their children, God teaches right and wrong through nature, conscience, and the Word.

Preparation for The Lord’s Table Holy Communion: We celebrate the Lord’s Supper today by receiving the Body and Blood of Christ, which is given in, with and under the bread and wine. In this meal, we receive the forgiveness of sins, the promise of life everlasting and the strength we need to live faithfully. We invite to the Lord’s Table baptized believers who are truly repentant of sin and seek the grace in this meal, forgiving of one another as we have been forgiven, and gladly believe and confess the Real Presence of Christ in this meal. All people are welcome to come forward for a blessing. Participating in the meal is how the church proclaims the Lord’s death, resurrection, and imminent return. Red wine is used to best visually convey the blood of Christ. For personal or medical reasons, white grape juice is also available in the center of the trays.

    Distribution Songs:

“Draw Near and Take the Body of the Lord”

Draw near and take the body of the Lord, And drink the holy blood for you outpoured; Offered was He for greatest and for least, Himself the victim and Himself the priest.

He who His saints in this world rules and shields, To all believers life eternal yields; With heavenly bread He makes the hungry whole, Gives living waters to the thirsting soul.

Come forward then with faithful hearts sincere, And take the pledges of salvation here. O Lord, our hearts with grateful thanks endow As in this feast of love You bless us now.

Who the Son sets free, Oh is free indeed. I'm a child of God. Yes I am.

Free at last He has ransomed me. His grace runs deep. While I was a slave to sin Jesus died for me. Yes He died for me,

Who the Son sets free, Oh is free indeed. I'm a child of God. Yes I am.

In my Father's house. There's a place for me. I'm a child of God. Yes I am!

I am chosen not forsaken. I am who You say I am. You are for me not against me. I am who You say I am.

I am chosen not forsaken. I am who You say I am. You are for me not against me. I am who You say I am. I am who You say I am.

Who the Son sets free, Oh is free indeed. I'm a child of God. Yes I am.

Bible Study: 1&2 Corinthians: Come join this Bible study led by Pastor Matt on the books of 1&2 Corinthians. You can catch up by going to the church website and downloading the handout and audio from previous sessions. This class will be at 9:45am on Sunday mornings on Zoom, but if you want to gather in person with others, we’ll also use one of the smart TV-equipped classrooms on campus. Our hope is to cover a couple chapters at a time, so the class will run about 16 weeks with some flexibility! These are great letters from Paul and very useful for the times we are in. For Zoom invite, please send an e-mail to [email protected].

A Message from the Music Committee: Members & Friends of FCLC,

Our Music Director of many years, Linda Hausch, is stepping back from her role in leading & coordinating worship music at FCLC. With prayer and reflection, Linda has decided the time has come for more flexibility to spend with family, especially grandkids, and to pursue other passions and callings. FCLC has been richly blessed by Linda’s countless hours of performance, service, dedication, coordination, and inspiration for our worship teams and choirs. Linda, we love and support you, and we offer you our heartfelt thanks and appreciation for all you have given!

A transition plan, starting January, has been offered and accepted by the Board of Elders. Missy Nichols will serve in the position of interim Music Director for FCLC. Her experience, talent, familiarity, and skill will continue the wonderful level of music and praise for FCLC. Thank you, Missy, for offering to serve in this interim position and continue to fill our church with wonderful music praise!

A committee to search for a permanent Music Director has been formed. We want and invite your input for ideas for the future of the music ministry at FCLC. A “FCLC Music Survey” was distributed in December via the 411. We ask that members and friends of FCLC take a few moments to complete the survey. The survey will close on January 10th, if you have not completed the survey please do so before then. (Feel free to email the office if you would like this survey link emailed to you). Your input will help guide our search for a new Music Director at Friendship Celebration.

Above all, and through all, we ask for, and seek guidance from our Lord and Savior!

~Aaron Hubler on behalf of the Music Committee
