Hewitt Associates, a global outsourcing andconsulting firm, today announced it has begun
providing various HR technology and operationsservices to Sony Electronics' human resources in the
United States, achieving another milestone ingrowing its HR outsourcing business. The first phase
of the new HR services is now underway.
Hewitt's HR outsourcing services will enable SonyElectronics human resources to focus on its strategic
human resources functions, freeing the HR staff fromday-to-day management of essential--but non-strategic--duties.
"We're looking forward to supporting Sony as itcontinues to grow and enhance its competitiveposition," said Bryan Doyle, outsourcing business
leader for Hewitt. "Successful companies like Sony

"Working with Hewitt, Sony expects to significantlyreduce its annual HR-related costs by next year, andto grow that savings nearly three-fold by year five,"
said Ed Cotter, senior vice president of HR for SonyElectronics Inc. "Meanwhile, the biggest potential for
savings lie in the re-engineering and standardizationof HR processes and policies, improving service andchanging how HR is spending its time to driveorganizational performance."
Hewitt is providing Sony Electronics' 14,000 U.S.
employees with these services:
- HR Workways(TM), a personalized portal thatfeatures content tailored for new hires, employees,
managers and HR professionals. Information theyneed can be accessed directly, enabling them to
make decisions, take action and link to other partiesinvolved in HR services, such as an employment
verification provider and the company's in-housetraining registration system, and employee self-
service for direct deposit and online pay stubs.
- Compensation, providing services for annual salaryplanning and administration, special cash awards andunplanned pay changes.
- Integrated Customer Service Center, providingservices for HR data management, and leave of
absence administration and support. Employees,managers and HR professionals can contact thecenter to inquire about benefit and HR transactions.

Workforce Relations, delivering policies andprocedures information; providing employeecommunication such as delivering and tracking
employee surveys; facilitating employee networkingand communities of interest; and maintaining
employee records.
- Recruiting and Deployment, providing services forworkforce management including job postings,
recruiting sources, applicant tracking processes,applicant profiles, employee onboarding and
orientation, transfers and exits.
Succession planning, providing services for strategicstaffing including identifying staffing requirements
and tracking high potential employees.
