AP Statistics Summer Assignment Welcome to AP Stats! AP Statistics is unlike other math courses. In most math courses there is usually one correct answer… the area is 23.6 m 2 , or x = 3.21. In statistics, we do find numerical answers, such as mean and median, but are most interested in the meaning behind the numbers. The course requires strong analytical skills, a willingness to learn and follow the scientific method to draw well-supported conclusions from the data to answer the research question, and an ability to write and explain your conclusions in a clear, concise, and persuasive way. You will read several articles and complete a review of basic probability as your summer assignment. The articles will serve as a basis for our discussions the first week of class and will become part of a formative grade. We will also take a probability quiz during the first two weeks. 1. Read the article from Business Insider and compare it to the study on which the article is based. What conclusions are made by the researchers? How are those conclusions reported in each article? Research says this is what you need to teach your kids in kindergarten if you ever want them to go to college or get a job. http://www.businessinsider.com/future-success-could-be- determined-early-2015-7#ixzz3hCRlz0Oc American Journal of Public Health: Early Social-Emotional Functioning and Public Health: The Relationship Between Kindergarten Social Competence and Future Wellness http://ajph.aphapublications.org/doi/pdf/10.2105/AJPH.2015.302630

  • AP Statistics – Summer Assignment

Welcome to AP Stats! AP Statistics is unlike other math courses. In most math courses there is usually one

correct answer… the area is 23.6 m2, or x = –3.21. In statistics, we do find numerical

answers, such as mean and median, but are most interested in the meaning behind

the numbers. The course requires strong analytical skills, a willingness to learn and

follow the scientific method to draw well-supported conclusions from the data to

answer the research question, and an ability to write and explain your conclusions in

a clear, concise, and persuasive way.

You will read several articles and complete a review of basic probability as your

summer assignment. The articles will serve as a basis for our discussions the first

week of class and will become part of a formative grade. We will also take a probability

quiz during the first two weeks.

    1. Read the article from Business Insider and compare it to the study on which the article is based. What conclusions are made by the researchers? How are those

    conclusions reported in each article?

Research says this is what you need to teach your kids in

kindergarten if you ever want them to go to college or get a job. http://www.businessinsider.com/future-success-could-be-
