AP US GOVERNMENT AND POLITICSMs. Goldwyn
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The goal of the course is to increase understanding of the American political system
We will exam in DETAIL the principle processes and institutions through which the political system functions
As well as the establishment and implementation of public policies
The course work is geared to prepare the student for the AP exam in May
GRADUATION REQUIREMENT
Government is a ½ credit graduation requirement
Students CHOOSE to take an AP course to fulfill that requirement
AP Course curriculum is determined by the College Board
It is a college level course It is a more rigorous curriculum
TEXTBOOK
American Government Roots and Reform Students will have a book to take home Class set Available on beep.browardschools.com
SUPPLIES
Students must keep a notebook with all notes, assignments and supplemental materials
Students should purchase an AP review book
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES
Students must read the textbook and complete assignments prior to coming to class
They must be active participants in their own learning
Students should pay attention to current events as it relates to course material
GRADES
Tests Tests are both multiple choice and FRQ’s
(Free Response Questions) Tests are designed to prepare the student for
the AP exam Classwork Homework
AP EXAM
All AP exams are designed and graded by the College Board
All exams are given in May Scores are 1-5 Students must earn a 3 or higher to be
eligible for college credit It is up to the College or University to
determine whether or not they will accept the credit(s)
APGOPO EXAM
60 question multiple choice test 45 minutes 4 FRQ’s 100 minutes
