ABOUT APASS

Began at City College of San Francisco in 2004

To support AAPI students with high needs Created at College of Alameda in 2009 with

two other learning communities Initiated here at Laney College in Spring

2010 using special funding under the AANAPISI Grant

5-Year Federal Grant to develop best practices to support AAPI students at 2- and 4-year institutions

THE PROBLEM WITH THE “MODEL MINORITY”

AAPI student is an invisible crisis.

Focus on model minority “success” resulted in less attention to low achievement among AAPI students, leads to neglect of programs and services for AAPI students.

This myth ignores how AAPI students contend with the same issues that other communities face.

AAPI data masks high levels of poverty and academic barriers. Data on some AAPI groups are nonexistent.

AAPI College Enrollment are evenly distributed in two-year and four-year institutions, with the majority attending public institutions.

AAPI ENROLLMENT IN PUBLIC TWO-YEAR COMMUNITY COLLEGES IS INCREASING FASTER THAN IN FOUR-YEAR COLLEGES.

COUNSELINGYour counselor will play an important role in
