1 APPLICATION GUIDE About APAX PAC Australia’s national networking and development event, the Australian Performing Arts Exchange [APAX] will be moving to an online platform for 2020. Unlike past years, building tours will not be a focus of APAX this year. Instead, we’ll focus on exchanging ideas, organisation updates, and future possibilities. We want you to have an opportunity to reach your peers and potential collaborators, start fresh conversations, and build the connections you need to take those crucial next steps. The revised APAX format involves a series of online gatherings, with each session running for a maximum of 90 minutes, where producers and artists will be invited to discuss the current status of their organisation or artistic practice, including plans to move forward. Putting the emphasis on “exchange”, there will also be specific sessions where presenters will be invited to address the online audience to discuss how they, too, will emerge post-COVID, and where they are currently positioned in terms of future programming. A note on the impact of COVID-19 These online gatherings are based on understanding the impact COVID-19 has had on each part of the sector, and what that will mean for the future, particularly the future of touring. We also understand and acknowledge that at the time of submitting your application, there is still much uncertainty around what the future might look like. It’s difficult for both presenters and producers to put forward a clear picture of what their own capacity will be and what audiences will be responsive to in the next 12-24 months.

According to a recent PAC Australia poll of our presenter members, what we do know is that:

• 76% are continuing with some or all of their existing plans for 2021 programming.

• 14% have moved 2020 performances into 2021 and are therefore not actively looking for additional work.

• 58% are, or soon will be, looking at programming for 2022. APAX 2020 Application Given the heavy-duty application fatigue we’re all experiencing, we’ve seriously condensed the amount of information you need to supply in your application this year. We’re also placing more focus on organisations or individuals who can articulate their current thinking about their future activity, or who have an exceptional idea or strategy to share, rather than just looking at pitching specific productions (though this option is still available as well). We’ll also consider the readiness of your work and organisation to pitch at a national marketplace. You may like to attend our applications webinar to help you decide if presenting at APAX is a suitable opportunity for you. APAX producer/artist presentations will take place on the following dates:

• Tuesday 1st September • Thursday 3rd September • Tuesday 8th September • Thursday 10th September

There is a $15 (inc GST) application fee. This fee will be waived for independent producers and artists. KEY DATES Applications open Thursday 28th May Preparing your application webinar Tuesday 9th June 2pm AEST Applications close Monday 22nd June 7pm AEST Outcomes advised Wednesday 1st July APAX program announced Thursday 9th July and registrations open

If Your Application Is Successful The format of our online delivery of APAX will require you to pre-record any AV presentations, rather than supplying materials to operate while you present. You will still have the opportunity to speak to the online delegation live, following the AV presentation. Even though the event is online, it will be stage-managed, including vision switching, so you should expect that your presentation will not run like a usual webinar. If needed, we can support you with basic AV editing assistance. Completing Your Application Important bits to note:

• You must click Save & Resume Later if you wish to finish your application at another time – if you close the window or leave the form to time out, you will lose your progress.

• Clicking Save & Resume Later will provide you with a link unique to your incomplete application, which you’ll need to return to it. Keep it safe (screenshot below).

• You won’t be able to submit your application until you have completed all required fields (marked with a *) but you will be able to skip forward in the application to view all pages.
