- The OIE/FAO-APHCA Working Group on BSE/Prion Diseases was formed in 2005 with an open forum for exchanges of the disease information and updated know-how.

- Monoclonal antibodies for BSE and scrapies diagnosis have been provided by the CAHEC to the Working Group members since 2007, through the APHCA Secretariat’s contact, free of charge.

OIE/FAO-APHCA Regional Workshop on OIE/FAO-APHCA Regional Workshop on Bluetongue Diagnosis and Control Bluetongue Diagnosis and Control (for selected member countries)(for selected member countries)

- Bluetongue is an important arbo-borne viral disease in ruminants. The pathogenic sero-vars of bluetongue virus can cause major economic lost and public health hazard.

- A 4-day regional workshop on Bluetongue diagnosis and

control is proposed to be held [in collaboration with the Directorate General of Livestock Service (DGLS)/GOI], at the National Research Institute for Veterinary Science in Bogor, Indonesia, tentatively in April – May 2009 has been adjourned to be organized in 2010*.

FAO-APHCA/OIE Regional Workshop on Brucellosis FAO-APHCA/OIE Regional Workshop on Brucellosis DDiagnosis and Controliagnosis and Control

- The 1st (demo) workshop on Brucellosis diagnosis and control (with an emphasis on B. melitensis) was organized [in collaboration with DLD of Thailand and Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Chiang Mai University (FVM-CMU)], in Chiang Mai and Lampang, Thailand, between 20 and 23 October 2008.

- The 2nd (hands-on) workshop was organized in Khon Kaen, Thailand, between 8 and 11 June 2009 (in collaboration with DLD). (RBT antigens were provided to all 15 participating countries and Fiji)

- The 3rd workshop is proposed to be organized in Sukhothai and Phitsanulok provinces in the first week of November 2010 (in collaboration with DLD).

Regional Collaboration on Brucellosis Regional Collaboration on Brucellosis DDiagnosis and Controliagnosis and Control

The collaboration shall focus on:- quality assurance including standardization of testing

procedures and diagnostic reagents (for future ring test activities), and

- strengthening of regional collaboration on diagnosis and control of Brucellosis.

In addition to the workshop, provisions of RBT antigens produced by the Thai DLD, standard diagnostic manuals and promotion of ring test trials is proposed for funding by APHCA.
