Productions

» Total production of 51 tons of honey in 2012 which is a

decline of 27% compared to 2011.

» An extreme dry year 2012 led to the production decline.

» Current weather conditions indicate a successful year 2013.

» Already more than 40 permanent workers, trainers and

beekeepers.

Sales

» Sales of approximately 32 tons of honey in 2012 decrease

mainly due to difficult weather conditions.

» Products include honey, mead, propolis, protective equipment

and more.

» We anticipate a slight loss for 2012, however it should be

balanced by the significant gains of the previous years.

Community

» Additional trainings conducted for more than 500 farmers in

2012 which brings the total to 2,200 farmers since the start.

» Over 3,000 registered partners such as individual beekeepers

or beekeeper collectives, e.g. families or small villages.

» Start of the apiculture centre construction in Mangodara.

Public relations

» In order to support the fundraising activities for the new apiculture center in Mangodara, the team

joined CSR conferences with well-established foundations and other related organizations.

» The project is being published in two different CSR related magazines: ENORM Magazine in

December 2012 and CSR Magazin (planned in February 2013).

outlook 2013: next steps, objectives and challenges

On site visit and production

» The next visit to Burkina Faso of one of our team members is

scheduled early in 2013.

» Key topics to be addressed during the visit

Analyze the reasons that led to the decline in sales in

2012 and discuss possible counter measures for the

future.

Review the progress of the Mangodara apiculture

center construction and meet with the Spanish

architecture and construction team as well as local

representatives.

Develop concepts to increase sales through e.g.

change in pricing system, marketing activities and

international export activities (certification necessary).

Assess of training concept and progress.

Mangodora and fundraising

» The first two buildings will be completed by the end of the year 2012. Additionally over 100

beehives and several hundred of trees are already being utilized by the community in Mangodara.

» Several local partners have been won and trained in professional beekeeping to be able to support

their family.

» The next planned construction stages are the water tower, sanitary facilities and the training center.

» Fundraising activities will have to be increased significantly in 2013 to finance the remaining parts

of the apiculture center concept.

» This also includes an increased awareness of the Wend Puiré project among relevant foundations

and organizations through conferences, presentations and our online presence.

» The successful partnership and cooperation with the student group Enactus (former SIFE) will

continue in particular in the area of fundraising.

Economic targets and general objectives for the community

» Research showed that besides Bobo-Dioulasso the area of Mangodora has both the economic need

and the potential for an additional center for apiculture activities and training.

» The indigenous and exotic flora provides an ideal basis for apiculture related research and the

training center will enable the education of the first full-time and self supported beekeepers.

» In coordination with a Spanish architecture team, we agreed that Mangodara should serve as a

flagship project that inspires and stimulates professional activities and the local culture.

Sustainability: traditional construction techniques will be applied and wherever possible

material from the region and local workers will be used.

Eco-friendly: revitalization of the area with its natural tree culture and the creation of parks.

Society and culture: creation of a central site for the local co

cultural activities.

1. Apiculture centre and administration building (about to be completed).

2. Training center, water tower and sanitary facilities.

3. Dormitories for beekeepers, their families and staff, food production site and museum.

What €1,000 can achieve in Mangodara

» Basic training of a beekeeper including literacy courses, 20 beehives, protective clothing, and

planting of 16 trees. This builds the basis for the lifelong provision of a family.

» Digging of a well to ensure a drinking water supply and for irrigation of the plantations.
