Next, we borrow from the choral repertoire, with Lauridsen’s achingly beautiful O Magnum Mysterium. From that point on, we will stay in the world of wind band music, though from different eras. Gillingham’s Apocalyptic Dreams explores the expressive capabilities of wind music in a contemporary vein, including some improvisation. Vaughan Williams Toccata Marziale is one of the outstanding examples of traditional band music;Whitacre’s Ghost Train is a 1994 piece eerily representing the sound of well, a ghost train; and we will close with Steve Reineke’s beautiful Sedona. As usual in the Spring Concert, middle school and high school students will join us on stage.
