One of my seminary professors had

objections to teaching seminary classes

online. His conviction was that

platforms like Facebook, Zoom, and

YouTube could not be used to

adequately prepare ministers for such a

hand’s on job. He used to say, “We

will teach preaching online when

preachers preach to their congregation

online.” Well, his words would come

back to haunt him, as he is quickly

coming around to the online seminary

experience. Recently, I was reviewing

the online analytics for our worship

services. In the past seven days,

church content has reached 1,236

people through Facebook. That is

something to be excited about and

celebrate. Knowing that Third Baptist

Church is blessing others in this way is

something for us to celebrate.

So, if you have been blessed by our

online content, please tell us. Like,

share, and comment on the work that

staff and volunteers are doing. This

lets us know how we are doing, plus it

helps us to spread our message to

others. In the upcoming weeks,

nothing will change regarding our

Sunday morning worship services.

They will be available on Facebook

and on the radio every Sunday

morning at 10:45. Online worship

services do not replicate gathering in

the same space. So, we are excited to

be hosting live worship services on

Sunday afternoons in October. These

gatherings will be outside on the south

side of the church building on the

Daviess Street side. I look forward to

seeing you in the coming days.

Filling an Appalachian Shoebox

1. Use an empty shoebox, sturdy

cardboard, or plastic, photo boxes

from craft store also work.

2. Determine if the box will go to a boy

or girl and what age would be

appropriate for the gift. Ages 1 to 18

years. Make a tag to place on top of

the box.

3. All items in the box must be NEW.

Please no religious items, cash,

guns or violent toys.

4. Start with a WOW Item. A wow item

is one thing that when the person

opens the box they look at that item

and say WOW. Example: a soccer

ball deflated with a pump and

needle enclosed, large stuffed

animal, Lego set, action figure,

Barbie doll, team sport item (cap,

shirt), bath and body works items

for girls, axe items for boys, craft

item, watch or jewelry, etc.

5. Fill in with smaller items if there is

room. Socks, nail polish, shaving

items, small cars, hair items, art

items, clothing items, toothbrush

and toothpaste, small wrapped hard

candy (nothing that will melt),

school supplies, magic tricks, tiny

animals, etc.

6. Return to Third Baptist Church by

Oct. 29th.

7. Do not put money in boxes.

Donations by check to help cover

the cost of shipping is appreciated.
