Rationale: Student will provide written information regarding his or her interests in order to drive future instruction. The interest survey will ensure materials will be engaging. Therefore, those materials will create a sound foundation to move forward with the student. In addition, the QRI-5 will be administered to assess the students reading abilities, and it will help me to bring in reading material in which he or she will feel comfortable reading both independently, and with some scaffolding. Materials: QRI-5, 3 page interest survey, letter-writing prompt in which student describes who they are, etc. Procedure: Student 1 1. QRI-5 2. 3 Page Interest Survey 3. Letter-writing about himself or herself Reflection: Student was very open and cooperative - Interest survey warmed up student - Student interests revealed: mysteries, history, and historical fiction. Great intonation - decodes well - H.S. level reading - not much background knowledge on Vietnam - Dislikes U.S. history - Uses finger to follow words while reading Ran out of time during testing - needed to complete on the next meeting - should have immediately tested a middle level word list and worked my way down if necessary.
