    First Grade News

Thank you to everyone who generously donated to the gingerbread house activity! Such a wonderful way to celebrate the holidays!

    Partners for Enrichment

Sarah Doremus, artist with Partners for Enrichment, worked with the 3-5 team to create a curriculum that engaged each grade level with different aspects of the mason bee life cycle. Fifth grade has been building mason bee houses (part of their simple machines science curriculum); Fourth grade has been working on a storyboard plaque depicting pollination of the mason bees (part of their agricultural science studies); and Third grade has been creating images of the mason bee life cycle (part of their science curriculum). This grade level team plans to install the plaque near the butterfly garden, along with the bee houses, this spring!

    SIMPLY SECOND

The second graders enjoyed our visit from Chewonki. We learned about various animal habitats and adaptations. We had the opportunity to touch a snake and a millipede. We even dressed up as a polar bear, owl, frog, bear, lobster, leopard and turtle. We were very excited to see a Great Horned Owl!!! He sat on Mr. Kyle's arm and slowly turned his head and looked at all of us with his big eyes! We were very quiet and calm so we wouldn't scare him. What a wonderful learning experience for all of us. A big thank-you to PARTNERS FOR ENRICHMENT for providing us with a fun and informative learning activity. We are grateful for all that you do for the students at AVS!!

    Kindergarten News

Kindergartener’s had a special visit from Millie, Sparky, and Ella last week. Thanks to Partners for Enrichment for making it possible for the Chewonki Foundation to share their presentation with us. In case you wondered, Millie is a millipede, Sparky is an owl, and Ella is a snake! What a wonderful

opportunity for our Kindergarten friends to see all these animals.

Please remember to send your child to school with warm hats, gloves, boots, coats and snow pants. Your child also needs to have sneakers each day, as there is daily P.E.
