Application and Selection Process
Recognizes model students academic excellence with other aspects of their
lives. May or may not have already received recognition
from the campus, local, state, national, or international organizations.
It is the highest honor from SUNY. Last year, 274 SUNY wide award recipients came
from 64 campuses and had an overall average GPA of 3.8.
Must have a 3.5 GPA to apply
Students are nominated by faculty and staff◦ Deadline to nominate was December 22
Students go online to download and complete the nomination form.◦ Nomination forms due Wed. Jan 28 at 12 noon
A UB selection committee meets to review the completed applications
The UB selection committee selects up to 15 students to forward onto the SUNY Administration

in 240 SU) January 28, 2015 – Applications Due at 12 noon via UBLinked – NO
EXCEPTIONS January 30, 2015 – Students selected January 30 (12 noon) to February 2 (12 noon) – Selected students
must sign their nomination packets February 2, 2015 – Nominations sent to President Tripathi for review
and signature February 6, 2015 – Hard copies of the UB nominations are due in
Albany February 23, 2015 – Students are notified by SUNY Central if they
have received the award. March 26, 2015 @ 3:30pm – Meet and Greet for Award Recipients
and UB representatives (240 Student Union) April 2, 2015 – Awards ceremony in Albany at 2pm April 23, 2015 – Celebration for Student Excellence, Center for the
Arts
Download the nomination form first and begin filling it in.
Fill out ALL contact information. Take your time when describing your
awards/recognitions. Think about the way this recognition has impacted you and others.
Only list awards/recognitions that you received while a student at UB earning your current degree.
Consider the impact of each experience and write about it in the description (ie: Community Service - once vs. continual
Only list an award/recognition once! It is OK not to fill in every category. Edit.
You may submit two pages of additional documentation.
Documents may be submitted through UBLinked, mailed to 235 SU, emailed to [email protected] or faxed to 645-2163 by 12 noon on January 28.
Is there a GPA cut-off?◦ Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 to be
considered for this award.
Can I list awards more than once?◦ No, the award or recognition will only be counted
once by the selection committees.
Can I include what I have done at other schools?◦ No. Both selection committees will focus only on
what you have done while a student at UB completing your current degree.
What if I won the award as an undergraduate or at a community college, am I still eligible to apply again?◦ Yes, however you can not use any of the awards
or recognitions you originally used as an undergraduate or in your community college to win the award previously.
To find the form, please go to www.buffalo.edu/ublinked and be sure to login to the site on the top right corner using your UBIT name and password. If you do not login, you will not see the form.
Under organizations, select “Center for Student Leadership & Community Engagement”.
Click on “Forms” on the left side of the page. Select the “2015 SUNY Chancellor’s Award for
Student Excellence”.
To get back to your form follow these steps after logging into UBLinked:1 – Click on “My Involvement” at the very top of the page2 – Click “Submissions”3 – Find the form and click on the magnifying glass image to the right of the form title (“2015 SUNY Chancellor’s Award”)4 – Click the title of the form and you should be brought back to the form to complete.
Are there any general questions you have about this award?
This award is about recognizing students for their achievements.
If you are not selected to be forwarded or not selected by the SUNY Administration group, you have still been nominated for a very prestigious award.
