Thank you for showing an interest in the role of Team Rector (Designate) of the Kingswood andHanhamBenefices.

ThetwoBeneficeswerebroughttogethersix years ago under the previous incumbent whoretiredinJune2015.TheKingswoodBeneficehastwoestablishedchurchesandone new church planted some four years ago.TheHanhamBenefice(HanhamwithHanhamAbbots)hastwochurches.Muchhasbeen achieved in forming teams of people to managethedifferentareasoflifeinthefivechurchcommunities.Workingwithateamwhich includes Associate Ministers, licensed lay ministers and lay volunteers there is considerablepotentialforgrowth.

During the extended vacancy a Team Review was carried out in Kingswood and a new Scheme approved which gives the three churches in Kingswood equal representation onthatPCC,eachretainingitsownDCC.Some excellent work by an interim Priest in Charge has enabled this to bed in over the pastyear.InHanhamthePCCcoversbothchurches.TheSSMFocalMinisterandtheleadership team have overseen the Mission oftheBenefice.

The recent relocation of the Kingswood Pioneer Minister who was responsible for the church plant (All Souls) and many outreach projects has given the opportunity to create anewTeamVicarpostwhichwillbefilledfollowingthisappointment.Itisanticipatedthat the Team Rector will have overall responsibilityforthetwobeneficesbutworkmostly in Kingswood, assisted by the Team Vicar who would also undertake primarily the responsibilityfortheHanhambenefice.

INTRODUCTIONThis post offers the opportunity to be Team Rector (Designate) of our twobeneficesofKingswoodandHanham.(Populationinexcessof25,200 and 6,600 respectively (2011 censusfigures)).TheylieontheEastern fringe of Bristol but within easy reach of Bath and within South Gloucestershire.Thefivechurches, located in both urban and suburban settings, have been working together under one leadership for the past 6 years.Thereisateamineachchurchundertaking meaningful steering roles andday-to-daymanagementtasks.

The last six years have been both excitingandtough.Excitingbecausewe have seen new congregations form, initiatives taking off, partnership with other churches grow and increasing commitment of many core churchmembers.Howeverwehavestruggled to maintain clear leadership and a small number of people have worked extremely hard to keep things going.

We are hoping and praying that the appointment of a new Team Rector and, shortly after, a new Team Vicar will lead to some stability and a sense that together we can accomplish what God wants to do in these two benefices.WeanticipatethattheTeam Rector while having oversight ofbothBeneficeswillbeseenasthe focal minister for the Kingswood churches and the Team Vicar will

be seen as the focal minister for the Hanhamchurches.Howeverwehopethat through working closely together the workload across the whole area willbesharedequitably.Itisvitaltherefore that the person appointed to be Team Rector will have a major part to play in the recruitment of the new TeamVicar.

Overall we are seeking a leader who, while respecting and celebrating our diversity, will support and oversee our work to sustain, develop and promote Christian worship in each of ourcommunities.TheTeamRector(Designate) appointed will, we hope,

• embrace the different style of worship at each church community

• support, lead, encourage and develop the Ministry Teams of clergy and lay people

• inspire and lead us in mission, commitment, partnership, influenceand in evangelism in its widest sense

• be open, friendly, approachable and able to build bridges in our churches and parishes

• be willing and able to work with and inspire established groups within the overall leadership structure

• work with local schools, pre-schools and youth organisations to encourage young people in their understanding of the gospel, opportunities for worship and growingfaith.

CULTURE AND STYLE OF WORSHIP Our Church Mission statement is Link – Live – Love

Link – to offer opportunities for worship and make known the Gospel of Jesus Christ

Live – to serve the living God and each other; to bear witness to our faith; to nurture, nourish and grow within all our communities

Love – to demonstrate and share God’s love through friendship, comfort and care to everyone

Currently we have a Focal Minister (SSM), 3 LLMs (two with PTO) and one retiredpriestwhoareinvolvedinworshipintheparish.Duringthevacancywehavehadsupportfromclergyinthedeanery.WehaveateamoflaymemberswhoareauthorisedtoadministerthechaliceatHolyCommunion.

The Parish of Hanham largely follows a traditional worship style but has, particularly during the last 10 years, widened its approach to include more lay-ledworshipandactiveparticipationfromthemembership.Thecorecongregation at both churches is ageing and it has been recognised that, in order to revitalise and widen the church in Hanham, services must be more varied with differing styles of worship to appeal to a wider range of worshipper.
