In order to return to church we will need more Sunday morning volunteers than ever because we are changing the way we do wor-ship to fit social distancing guide-lines. We will need people to greet with smiles and waves, ush-ers to check people in and seat them, people to check tempera-tures with touchless thermome-ters and distribute masks, folks to help with parking, help cleaning before and after worship, tech team members and more. If you’re willing to help, fill out our online form and let us know how you would like to help with our return.

C A R O L Y N G O O D W I N U P D A T E

We’ve all been affected by COVID-19 here in the United States, but it truly is a global pandemic affecting the entire world. Our missionary in Ugan-da, Carolyn Goodwin, recently shared an update about life under COVID-19 restrictions in her area of Africa. Dear Family and Friends,

When I last wrote in March Uganda had just begun the lockdown due to Covid-19. Now it is 25 June, and we are still in lockdown. Lockdown in Uganda, and the consequences of breaking the COVID-19 restrictions are harsh, but it has to be because the devastation otherwise would be horrific. Some vil-lages have opened to allow passenger vehicles to operate with a minimum of half the occupancy limit. That is good, but neighboring border villages are still restricted from private vehicles – so where can the

vehicle really go? Arua is considered a border town/village. There is still a curfew from 7 pm until 6:30 am. Boda bodas (motorbikes) and tuk tuks can carry cargo only, no passengers. That means we must walk everywhere wearing face masks. As you know, the masks are very hot, and restrict breathing. Having to walk long distanc-es in the sun to get to the store or market, the restrict-ed airway makes it even more difficult.

Only food is allowed to be sold in shops (with safe distancing); however, slowly people are putting their wares, such as plastics, pots and pans, some clothes, beside the road. Schools are closed until possibly next year – meaning January 2021. School fees that have been paid are lost.

Social distancing is enforced, no public meetings or religious gatherings allowed. If the police catch you breaking the law the punishment is to be thrown in prison for planning to commit murder – a sentence of 7 years. People were being caned in public, but the president said “no,” to arrest them for murder instead. One lady was beaten to death for cooking a chicken and serving it to a small group of people. Not all people are compliant, but it’s like playing Russian roulette. Will you be the one selected to be an example?

The economic results of this lockdown are that pric-es are very high, but most shops, salons, and busi-nesses are closed so there is no way to make money. Trucks are allowed to cross the border because it is international law. Drivers are tested, but by the time the results are back the driver has already gone into the country. There are almost 800 cases now in Uganda – mostly truck drivers who have been locat-ed and taken back out of the country. Uganda claims there are no recorded deaths of the virus as yet. Air-ports are still closed to outgoing and incoming pas-sengers. Will I get to see you in August? I don’t know. I have been restricted from going into the camp and the prisons because of the lockdown. But that has not stopped us from reaching out to those in need. We have given food and money to those who are most oppressed. Through Pastor Erafasi, the prison ministry has had limited fellowship with prisoners to bring Bibles, soap, and the Good News. Expectant mothers who de-liver in prison have received Mommie kits to help care for their newborn babies.

This is a good place to share a miracle that happened two days before lockdown. A sister and brother, Jes-sica and Charles, were given a sentence of 35 years in a very strict Kampala prison for a murder they had nothing to do with. With the help of a group that advocates for prisoners who have been wrongfully convicted, and your love and financial support, the courts released Jessica and Charles two days before the lockdown! They left Kampala the day before all public transport was stopped. They are each at home now with their families thanks to the mercy of our Lord of justice! Amen! The world can shut things down, but nothing will stop God from moving. God bless you in the mighty name of Jesus our Lord and Savior,

Momma (aka Carolyn, Grandma, GG)

Distributing soap to the children at the children's prison. There is no money for

uniforms so the children live in the clothes they come in. When they wash their clothes, they put them on to dry. They were very happy to receive soap.
