The followers of Jesus on that first Easter morning came to the tomb expecting nothing more than the final opportunity to prepare Jesus' body for the sleep of death. His burial on Good Friday had been done in haste; now they would take ample time for the proper preparation of their Lord’s body. On this Easter morning we signal this same mood with the dimmed lights, and the solemn responses.

Confession & Forgiveness

In the name of the Father, and of the ☩ Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

God of all mercy and consolation, come to the help of your people, turning

us from our sin to live for you alone. Give us the power of your Holy Spirit

that we may confess our sin, receive your forgiveness, and grow into the

fullness of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another.

Silence for reflection and self-examination

Most merciful God, we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free

First Reading Acts 10:34-43

Peter’s sermon, delivered at the home of Cornelius, a Roman army officer, is

a summary of the essential message of Christianity: Everyone who believes in

Jesus, whose life, death, and resurrection fulfilled the words of the prophets,

“receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”

34Peter began to speak to [the people]: “I truly understand that God shows no partiality, 35but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. 36You know the message he sent to the people of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ—he is Lord of all. 37That message spread throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John announced: 38how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power; how he went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. 39We are witnesses to all that he did both in Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree; 40but God raised him on the third day and allowed him to appear, 41not to all the people but to us who were chosen by God as witnesses, and who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. 42He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one ordained by God as judge of the living and the dead. 43All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”

Second Reading 1 Corinthians 15:1-11

The core of the Christian faith and Paul’s preaching is the death and

resurrection of Jesus Christ. As the crucified and risen Christ appeared to the

earliest of his followers, so we experience the presence of the risen Lord in the

preaching of this faith.

1Now I would remind you, brothers and sisters, of the good news that I

proclaimed to you, which you in turn received, in which also you stand, 2through which also you are being saved, if you hold firmly to the message

that I proclaimed to you—unless you have come to believe in vain.

3For I handed on to you as of first importance what I in turn had received:

that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures, 4and that he

was buried, and that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the

scriptures, 5and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6Then he

appeared to more than five hundred brothers and sisters at one time, most of

whom are still alive, though some have died. 7Then he appeared to James,

then to all the apostles. 8Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared

Gospel Lesson John 20:1-18

1Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene

came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb. 2So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom

Jesus loved, and said to them, "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb,

and we do not know where they have laid him." 3Then Peter and the other

disciple set out and went toward the tomb. 4The two were running together,

but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5He bent down

to look in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he did not go in. 6Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the

linen wrappings lying there, 7and the cloth that had been on Jesus' head, not

lying with the linen wrappings but rolled up in a place by itself. 8Then the

other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and

believed; 9for as yet they did not understand the scripture, that he must rise

from the dead. 10Then the disciples returned to their homes. 11But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb. As she wept, she bent over to

look into the tomb; 12and she saw two angels in white, sitting where the

body of Jesus had been lying, one at the head and the other at the feet. 13They said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?" She said to them,

"They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid

him." 14When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing

there, but she did not know that it was Jesus. 15Jesus said to her, "Woman,

why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?" Supposing him to be the

gardener, she said to him, "Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where

you have laid him, and I will take him away." 16Jesus said to her, "Mary!"

She turned and said to him in Hebrew, "Rabbouni!" (which means Teacher). 17Jesus said to her, "Do not hold on to me, because I have not yet ascended

to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, 'I am ascending to my

Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'" 18Mary Magdalene went

and announced to the disciples, "I have seen the Lord"; and she told them

that he had said these things to her.

This is the good news for you today. Praise to you, O Christ.

Apostle’s Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was

conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under

Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into

hell. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is

seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the

living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion

Today we are celebrating Holy Communion. We invite all baptized Christians who believe that Christ is truly present in this meal to join us. We offer both wheat or gluten free wafers and red wine or white grape juice. If you prefer gluten free wafers or grape juice, simply ask. All children who do not receive Holy Communion in their own churches are invited to come forward for a blessing.

The altar flowers this morning are given to the Glory of God by the congregation.

Thank you for the Wednesday Lenten offerings. A total of $1808 will be sent to SMI Haiti. Offerings received in the Easter offering envelopes will be split between Agape and Mercy Unlimited.

Kids Against Hunger money needs to be sent by the end of this month. If you plan to give to this event, please have your offerings in by Sunday, April 22. Thank you!

Youth Activity Bags are located in the cry room. These bags include activities for the youth to be used during worship and a snack. Please return the bags at the end of the service.

Hands in Mission donations requested: Fabrics, sewing thread, monetary donations to purchase these items for the World Relief Quilt Project. Fabrics must not have any religious symbols, holiday references or military related prints/patterns.

A Veteran’s Breakfast will be served at The Gardens in Wapak at 9 am on April 16 & May 21. Each breakfast will include a guest speaker. All Veterans are welcome.

April Prayer Practice: The Tea Ceremony Anyone is welcome to practice prayer with us at Trinity every week on Wednesdays at noon through tea and fellowship. If you can’t join us face to face, we still encourage you to practice prayer where you are at noon on Wednesdays either at work, at school, or in your car. You are also welcome to text Pastor Melodi at 701-331-9412 by noon Wednesday and we will lift up your prayer concerns with you.

A Thrivent Shoe Drive will be held through May 1. A collection box will be in our main entrance.

1. The Prayer Shawl group is changing its name to HANDS IN MISSION. We felt that this better reflects what this group is doing now and as we go into the future. We need members with a variety of talents. Our mission of the future is not limited to making prayer shawls, blankets for graduates, etc. We would like to expand our role here at Trinity to include other projects and events. Please sign up if you are at all interested in participating.

2. Trinity’s Community Garden We are looking for someone to head up the garden project this year, as well as workers to help. If you are interested in being part of this very important project, please sign up on the Response Form or talk to one of the trustees. Thank you!
