THIS WEEK MONDAY NIGHT MOVIE: “Green Book,” PG-13, 2018 (2HR 10MIN) MONDAY, APRIL 1, 7PM - AUDITORIUM: This film is Closed Captioned. When Tony Lip, a bouncer from an Italian-American neighborhood in the Bronx, is hired to drive Dr. Don Shirley, a world-class Black pianist, on a concert tour from Manhattan to the Deep South, they must rely on "The Green Book" to guide them to the few establishments that were then safe for African-Americans. Confronted with racism, danger, as well as unexpected humanity and humor—they are forced to set aside differences to survive and thrive on the journey of a lifetime.

April 1, 10AM in the Board Room: The Library committee meeting. All are welcome. NOTE FROM THE TRANSPORTATION SUBCOMMITTEE: Did you hear the rumor that Collington is doing away with the bus shuttles to the New Carrollton Metro station? Well, it is just a rumor, not correct! The subcommittee is reviewing the trip statistics to determine how to make the transportation service better for all of us. If you have concerns, give me a call or send me an email. Ruth Wilson x7534 or [email protected] WANTED (to borrow): Framed posters. The Interiors Group seeks framed, ready-to-hang posters to exhibit in the Auditorium corridor for several months beginning in mid-April. If you have one or more that you would be willing to lend, or if you have questions, please telephone Anne Stone, x7282 or Helen Lauck, x7254. COMPASSION & CHOICES: As you have likely already heard, the Medical Aid in Dying Bill died in the Maryland Senate on Wednesday, 3/28. Many in the Collington community worked hard in support of this bill, including 20 of us who went into Annapolis for the C&C Lobby Day when the bill was first introduced: Lorrie Rogers who testified at the House Joint Committee hearing; dozens and dozens of us who emailed and phoned not only our own delegation but legislators around the state multiple times; and 310 (253 residents plus 57 family, friends, and staff – mostly staff) who signed petitions that were presented to our delegation. So how did our District 24 delegation vote? Del. Barron did us proud and voted YES in committee and on the House floor. Del. Lewis wrestled long and hard with the issue and was unable to vote for it. He sent a letter explaining himself. If you would like a copy of his letter, call Lorrie (x7371). Del. Harrison, although she told some of us two different times that she would vote Yes, ended up voting NO. Sen. Benson, who claimed to be undecided, voted NO.

They are intended to supplement, not replace, insulated front doors. Closing only storm doors invites cold air infiltration in winter and hot air infiltration in summer. That results in

Who Knew?

For twenty five years the Residents Association has been carrying on the tradition of honoring our elderly population. According to Al Folop who was there at the beginning, a decision was made to cele-brate a resident’s 90th birthday by giving them a certificate honor-ing the day. Grace Langley wrote the poem and Al, the one com-puter literate member, printed the certificates. And so the 90s Club was born. Not only the 90s club but also the Century Club, which celebrates our residents who achieve 100 years of life!

In the last 25 years, Al estimates 450 certificates have been pre-sented. You may ask about our current population. We now have:

77 residents who are 90+ and 3 who are 100+ (technically one of the 3 won’t be 100 until April) residing in independent living,

15 residents who are 90+ in skilled nursing, and

28 residents who are 90+ and 4 who are 100+ in assisted living

Totals - 120 residents over 90 years of age and almost 7 residents over 100 years of age.

As we toast in Yiddish “La Chaim,” - “To Life.”

Reminders:

All RA business copying must now be done on the copier in the RA office. If you need assistance ask any of your officers or call 2214 for an appointment.

The Residents Association website collingtonresidents.org – now has a link to recorded auditorium events. Look under Collington Publica-tions – a list on the left side of the front webpage. Recorded Audito-rium Events is the last listed item. Call 2214 for the password.

TELEPHONE DIRECTORY SUPPLEMENT KEEP THIS PAGE! It has the latest new or corrected information that came in after the JANUARY 2019 edition of our Telephone Directory was printed, so that we can contact even our newest residents. This supplement is a cumulative list of changes since JANUARY 1, 2019. Each month, remove the old supplement and attach this new one to your JANUARY 2019 Telephone Directory, until the next full Directory is issued.

PLEASE CHECK YOUR OWN INFORMATION, and send corrections or changes to [email protected], or call Charlotte Melichar at 7224 to add your change to the Supplement.

All these phone numbers are in area code 301, except when otherwise shown. When dialing from one Collington phone to another, only the “extension” (the last four digits) is required.
