EASTER SUNDAY
April 12, 2020
Welcome and Announcements Prayer of the Day
Opening Hymn 123 Jesus Christ is Risen Today EASTER HYMN
Prayer of Illumination Scripture Readings
First Reading Psalm 118:1-2, 14-24
1 O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good;
his steadfast love endures forever!
2 Let Israel say,
“His steadfast love endures forever.”
14 The LORD is my strength and my might;
he has become my salvation.
15 There are glad songs of victory in the tents of the righteous:
“The right hand of the LORD does valiantly;
16 the right hand of the LORD is exalted;
the right hand of the LORD does valiantly.”
17 I shall not die, but I shall live,
and recount the deeds of the LORD.
18 The LORD has punished me severely,
but he did not give me over to death.
19 Open to me the gates of righteousness,
that I may enter through them
and give thanks to the LORD.
20 This is the gate of the LORD;
the righteous shall enter through it.
21 I thank you that you have answered me
and have become my salvation.
22 The stone that the builders rejected
has become the chief cornerstone.
23 This is the LORD’s doing;
it is marvelous in our eyes.
24 This is the day that the LORD has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Anthem
Most Glorious Lord of Life Ronald Arnatt
(1930-2018)
Sung and recorded by the First & Franklin Sanctuary Choir, Easter 2018.
Most glorious Lord of life, that on this day Didst make thy triumph over death and
sin, And having harrowed hell, didst bring away Captivity thence captive, us to win:
This joyous day, dear Lord, with joy begin, And grant that we for whom thou didst
die, Being with thy dear blood clean washed from sin, May live forever in felicity:
And that thy love we, weighing worthily, May likewise love thee for the same again;
And for thy sake, that all like dear didst buy, With love may one another entertain.
So let us love, dear Love, like as we ought; Love is the lesson which the Lord us
taught.
~Edmund Spenser
(1552-1599)
Matthew 28:1-10
1After the sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and
the other Mary went to see the tomb. 2And suddenly there was a great earthquake;
for an angel of the Lord, descending from heaven, came and rolled back the stone
and sat on it. 3His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow.
4For fear of him the guards shook and became like dead men. 5But the angel said to
the women, “Do not be afraid; I know that you are looking for Jesus who was
crucified. 6He is not here; for he has been raised, as he said. Come, see the place
where he lay.7Then go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has been raised from the
dead, and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him.’ This is
my message for you.” 8So they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy, and ran
to tell his disciples. 9Suddenly Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came
to him, took hold of his feet, and worshiped him. 10Then Jesus said to them, “Do
not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”

The Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen Offertory

Prayer of Dedication Phil Adams
Oh God we continue to gather in new and different ways to worship and offer thanks to
you, for in you we find good news amid tragedy, comfort in our grief, and hope for
restoration in our lives. You have shown us in the cross that you suffer with us, your love is
unconditional, and that your love is stronger than death. Bless what we offer today for the
furtherance of your “kingdom” for to us they represent our commitment to continue
working for justice, pursuing peace, and sharing your love in these troubled times. We pray
all these things in the name of Jesus Christ, for he is indeed risen; within us, among us, and
all around us. Amen.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR OFFERINGS
As we all recognize real concerns for our friends who will experience hardships through this
disruption in regular routines, so too, we need to be mindful that your weekly contributions
are critical to helping us maintain the financial obligations of the church. Payroll, mortgages,
electricity and the rest are needs we must continue to cover, and your continued support of
your pledges will be even more important while we are tele-worshiping. In addition to
accepting your pledges by mail to the church office, we have recently added a PayPal link to
the top of our new website which will allow us to process donations with this link: GIVE.
Thank you for your prayerful consideration.
