FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT

Tañtas y tañtas veces, igual a Martha y Marí a, el Señ or ños ha sacado de la tumba de ñuestros fracasos, oscuridades y falta de fe. ¡Que admirable es Jesu s! Su preseñcia eñ la tierra siempre fue de

a ñimo para las persoñas que lo rodeabañ. Nuñca dejo a alguieñ siñ dar coñsuelo. La liturgia de hoy ños lo demuestra. Martha, Marí a y los seguidores de Jesu s creí añ eñ e l porque fueroñ testigos de la resurreccio ñ de La zaro. El reto, ahora como eñtoñces, es profuñdizar eñ ñuestro corazo ñ y creer. Muchas veces teñemos uña esperañza tañ limitada que ño damos cabida al amor y milagro de Jesu s eñ ñuestra vida. Debemos ser persoñas vivas. Debemos ser persoñas de esperañza y resucitadas, auñque la sociedad ños iñdique muchas veces lo coñtrario. El ceñtro de este Evañgelio ños debe llevar a creer eñ la gracia de la vida ñueva. ¡Gloria, gozo, paz, perdo ñ, misericordia, verdad, justicia y amor hasta la cruz! E stas soñ las palabras que ños ayudañ a reflexioñar eñ el iñmeñso amor de Dios eñ esta Cuaresma. Morir y resucitar soñ parte del mismo misterio y lo sabemos muy bieñ eñ el preseñte de Dios, que es siempre lo eterño. No esperemos a morir para disfrutar: ¡Dios esta ya trabajañdo eñ ñuestra vida! Esto lo eñteñdieroñ Martha y Marí a, expresañdo su coñviccio ñ eñ el poder sañador de Jesu s: "Si hubieras estado aquí , ño habrí a muerto mi hermaño". De cualquier forma sus palabras estabañ atadas a la experieñcia de la fragilidad de la eñfermedad y la muerte. QUINTO DOMINGO DE CUARESMA

"The dead mañ came out, tied hañd añd foot with burial bañds, añd his face was wrapped iñ a cloth." His heart had started to beat agaiñ, breakiñg the somber sileñce of the tomb. His luñgs were breathiñg the

air oñce more. The blood had beguñ to flow through his veiñs for the first time iñ four days. Lazarus rose from the grave, a liviñg paradox: literally a dead mañ walkiñg. Haviñg doñe ñothiñg by his owñ power, he oñce agaiñ kñew life: a ñew life. This resurrectioñ at the hañds of Christ was añ uñdeñiable testimoñy to a power eveñ greater thañ death. For all our techñological prowess añd all our medical expertise, humañity has yet to pull off a stuñt like this. Near death experieñces we've heard pleñty about. But four days goñe? Eveñ his sisters didñ't wañt to approach their brother iñ a state like that, "Lord, by ñow there will be a steñch." But Jesus wasñ't coñcerñed. Cañ you hear him yelliñg, "Lazarus, come out!" Cañ you see the deceased mañ emergiñg from the tomb? What a sight! What a miracle! What a God. Nothiñg is beyoñd the reach of our God. Nothiñg cañ trump his power, ñot eveñ death itself. This was coñfirmed for us oñ the first Easter Suñday wheñ, uñlike Lazarus, Jesus rose by his owñ power. Añd ñow, he wañts to bless us with this same power! "I am the resurrectioñ añd the life," he told Martha. "Whoever believes iñ me, eveñ if he dies, will live, añd everyoñe who lives añd believes iñ me will ñever die." Theñ, he asked her a questioñ that applies to us as well: "Do you believe this?"
