She’s got 90 feet of fencing available to use, and since the pigpen will be next to the barn, she only needs to fence three sides of the rectangle. What dimensions will give her the maximum possible area? 19) The distance it takes for a car to stop is directly proportional to the square of the speed of the car, and inversely proportional to the pressure on the brake pedal. If a car travelling at 35 mph takes 240 feet to stop when the brake pedal is pressed with a given force, how long would it take for the car to stop if it was travelling at 55 mph and the pressure on the pedal was doubled? Round to the nearest foot. 20) I keep coins in the ashtray in my car. I’ve got 37 coins in there, consisting of only nickels, dimes, and quarters. All together they are worth $5.45, and I’ve got twice as many quarters as I have nickels. How many coins of each type are in my ashtray? 21) What math topic are you the most proud of yourself for learning this semester? (This exact same question will show up on the final, so you’ve got some time to think about it. I will only take points off for this question if it looks like you didn’t think about it at all!)
