Pigment ChangesSilk’n™ targets the hair sha t, in particular the pigmented cells in the hair ollicle and the hair ollicle itsel . Nevertheless there is risk o temporary hyperpigmentation (increased pigment or brown discoloration) or hypopigmentation (whitening) to the surrounding skin. This risk o changes in skinpigmentation is higher or people with darker skin tones.Usually discoloration or changes to skin pigment are temporary and permanent hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation rarely occur.

Excessive Redness and Swelling

In rare cases treated skin may become very red and swollen. This is more common in sensitive areas o the body. The redness and swelling should subside within2 to 7 days and should be treated with requent applications o ice. Gentle cleansing is OK, but one should avoid exposure to sun.

InfectionIn ection o the skin is exceedingly rare but is still a possible risk ollowing a skin burn or wound caused by Silk’n™.

BruisingVery rarely, use o Silk’n™ may cause blue-purple bruising that can last 5 to 10 days. As the bruising ades, there may be a rust-brown discolorationo the skin (hyperpigmentation) that can be permanent.

3.1. How does light remove hair?

Light-based hair removal is based on the theory o selective photothermolysis in which optical energy is used to disable hair growth. In order to achievesuch thermal e ect the hair sha t needs to selectively absorb light energy and trans orm it into heat. This selectivity is achieved when optical energy thatis delivered to the tissue is mostly absorbed by hair sha t pigment, while the skin and the surrounding tissue stays cool. Melanin is the pigment in thehair sha t that is responsible or the absorption o the light, which generates the heat that eventually disables hair growth. There ore the more melaninpresent in the hair (i.e. the darker the hair) the more light that can be absorbed and the more e ective light can be at removing hair.

3.2. How does the hair growth cycle impact light-based hair removal?

Every hair in our body goes through the three phases o the hair growth cycle: Anagen, Catagen and Telogen. These phases have an impor tant impacton how the process o light-based hair removal works.Anagen is the hair growth phase while Catagen and Telogen, both are resting phases. The time it takes to complete a ull hair growth cycle varies rom person to person and the location o the hair on the body, but is typically 18-24 months.

3.3. What is di erent about Home Pulsed Light™ technologyin Silk’n™?

Silk’n™ utilizes the patent pending Home Pulsed Light™ technology (HPL™) developed by the scientists at Home Skinovations exclusively

or sa e and e ective removal o unwanted hair at home. The technology allows or Silk’n™ to be small, portable and easy to operate compared toother similar systems. And like other light and laser systems HPL™ useslight energy to target melanin pigment in the hair.

3.4. Plan your Silk’n™ hair removal or best results

A typical full hair growth cycle may take 18-24 months. During this time multiple Silk’n™ sessions may be required in order to achieve long term hair removal. The e ciency o hair removal varies rom person to person according to body area, hair color, and how Silk’n™ is used.

Typical Silk’n™ hair removal plan during a full hair growth cycle:

The rst 3-4 hair removal sessions with Silk’n™ will be approximately two weeks apart.

Hair removal sessions 5-7 with Silk’n™ will be approximately four weeks apart.

A ter that you will typically use Silk’n™ againfrom time to time i and when needed, until long-term results are achieved.

Typical maintenance with Silk’n™ after achieving long-term hair removal:Due to hormonal or other physiological changes dormant hair ollicles may become active. Maintenance hair removal sessions with Silk’n™ may be required

rom time to time.

18-24Months

At any given moment the majority o the hair ollicles in any skin area arein the resting phases. These resting hairs cannot be a ected by Silk’n™.However, hairs in the growing Anagen phase will respond to Silk’n™applications. It is important to understand that it may take a ull hair growthcycle to realize complete hair removal results with Silk’n™.

9. When will I see results rom Silk’n™?As with any light-based or laser hair removal device, results are not immediate, and in act you may not think anything happened at all. Hair may sometimes appear to be growing back a ter a hair removal session, but typically a ter two weeks many o these hairs will simply all out. Additionally hairs grow in three di erent stages and onhairs in an active growth stage will be a ected by Silk’n™. This is one o the main reasons that multiple sessions arerequired to achieve the desired result.10. Can a man use Silk’n™?Though designed exclusively or women, Silk’n™ may be suitable or use by men. However, hairs on men, typically

those on the chest, will require more hair removal sessions than that o women to get the desired results.11. Why is my hair growing, even though I treated it a week ago?It is quite common or hair to appear as i it is still growing up to two weeks a ter a hair removal session withSilk’n™. This process is known as “ejection” and at around two-weeks you’ll see that these hairs simply all out or

slide out with a slight tug. (We don’t however recommend pulling on the hairs – just let them come out naturally.)It is also possible that some hairs, due to missed application or di erent stages o growth, were not a ected by Silk’n™. These hairs will be treated in ollow-up sessions, and hence the reason multiple hair removal sessions areneeded to get the best result with Silk’n™.12. I’ve heard that some hairs grow back lighter and fner a ter light based hair removal? This phenomenon is well documented amongst aestheticians and doctors using light and laser devices or hair removal. It is possible that some hairs will grow back lighter and ner a ter hair removal with Silk’n™. Usually

these hairs are a raction o what was originally there, and continued use may have a desirable e ect on them.13. Why can’t I treat mysel i I have an “active” suntan?Do not use Silk’n™ on tanned skin or a ter sun exposure! Tanned skin and particularly ollowing sun exposure, contains large quantities o the pigment Melanin. This applies to all skin types and complexions, including thosewhich don’t seem to tan quickly. The presence o large quantities o Melanin exposes the skin to higher risk o adverse e ects when using Silk’n™ including burns, blisters, and skin color changes (hyper- or hypo-pigmentation)14. Is long-term use o Silk’n™ dangerous or my skin? The use o light and laser energy in aesthetic medicine has been well documented or over 15 years in pro essionalpeer-reviewed journals, and by well respected institutions like the Mayo Clinic.
